Def not the monitor as it works fine for every other machine - plus when you get to the XP log on box the video appears.

A couple of weeks ago we ordered a new Dell Optiplex 760 USFF machine, straight out of the box we noticed a problem whereby the Dell logo screen doesn't show, you can press F2 to access the BIOS but you can't see anything, likewise if you try and run the 32-bit Diags - nothing. To cut a long story short, Dell have replaced the motherboard in the machine twice and the same problem occurs everytime - finally they have agreed to replace it. We have also ordered 30 of the same machine for a room re-fit starting in Jan. Given what happened we decided to try 2 just to satisfy ourselves that the problem was a one-off. Sadly not, we get exactly the same problem. Has anybody else got any of these, either the USFF or other chassis types and had any problems with them. I've already spoken to Dell Business Esculations Team and they tell me they are not aware of any known issues

I was thinking a virus also but we've run a full virus scan and found nothing.

No it's not and in any case I can still ping the printer.

All of a sudden since Wednesday last week windows has decided that a small handful or our network printers are no longer installed on the server. It's so far only happened with 2 or 3 of our Kyoceras - 3 different models but not all of the printers that are the same model (if that makes sense). The exact error I get is: "The Kyocera FS-2000DN KX printer driver is not installed on this computer. Some printer properities will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?" The quick and easy fix for this is to re-install the driver as all the file are still present in windows, however this only seems to last for a day and the message comes back. At the same time, I can still view the standard windows properities, but when I click print test page explorer.exe crashes Any ideas?

Problem solved! A users mailbox setting will override the global setting except for All Internet E-Mails because the message categorizer evaluates the send/recieve limits instead of the information store

We have the default 10MB limit on incoming e-mails and I have set up my own account in Active Directory to have a 100MB limit. Earlier on today someone has tried to send me an 11MB attachment and Exchange has generated an NDR for it with the following error: The message size was large or the local quota exceeded. For example, remote Exchange user might have delivery restrictions set with maximum incoming message size. Solution: Check access permissions as well as the message size Shouldn't the limit in AD override the defaults on the organisation? Has anybody else come across this before? Cheers Adam.

We have a scheduled task that is set to run Exmerge and backup eveyr exchange mailbox into a PST and then our backup software backs up all the PST files. Up until Saturday it was running fine and now I've noticed that it hasn't been running. The only thing that has changed on the server was I installed some Windows PowerShell stuff so I can query mailbox sizes and other exchange atrributes - i've uninstalled that, restarted and still it will not have it. We are in the process of merging our networks from the same kind of setup that you are looking at going to. When I started at the school they had 2 physically seperate networks, 2 domains, 2 seperate ADs, 2 seperate usernames/password etc.... It doubles my work load having to maintain 2 seperate networks - so there is a con for you. Like powdarrmonkey says splitting them does cause complexity there are resources crossing the boundaries. One example we have is E-Mail. Our Exchange server sits on the curriculum network. All works fine until their password expires and they can't logon to it - but they do know this has happened because they don't get the "you password is about to expire" dialog. The reason it is why it is here was becuase of security concerns, but with proper use of permissions there is no real reason for seperation. BTW - are you in Croydon, South London?

Last week we had to suspend a whole year group as they were out on a trip and for the purpose of cover for other classes it was decided that would use the staff that would have been teaching the suspended year first. When our cover manager covered a period with a member of staff that should have been teaching, both the original suspended period and the cover period appear on the homepage of that member of staff. When you right click on period you get the choice of which register to take but at no point does it tell you what room the cover lesson is in (see attachment) Converstation has been going backwards and forwards to Capita for a last few days but they seem to be missing the point of "we need to know what room the lesson is in...." I can replicate this in both 7.110 and 7.112 Has anybody come across this before?

Up until Septemebr I was using Fronter and Facility (we switched to SIMS this academic year). Firstly you need to create a connection within Fronter (you give tell it what MIS you using, theres a few options such as generating simple or complex password, if you want addresses, emails address, phone numbers exported fromm your MIS etc...) in turn you are given a web service URL. There are 2 reports that Fronter provided us with which export 4 csv files (2 for students and 2 for staff) and there is also a utility (you give it the web service URL so it knows where to send your data) which reads the csv files and sends the data to Fronter for importing. In terms of the data it exports: 1st Student CSV: Firstname, Lastname, DOB, UPN 2nd Student CSV: UPN, Teaching Groups 1st Staff CSV: Firstname, Lastname, DOB, Staffcode (or something unique) 2nd Staff CSV: Staffcode, Teaching Groups In all 4 csv files the school name is appended to the start and end of each record. The biggest problem I had was finding a way to have the 4 csv files generated automatically instead of having to run the reports in Facility whenever there were changes. Once you've got the data out, you can run the utility automatically with a scheduled task Thankfully, we were using as a pilot and it wasn't so important that all the data was accurate. I've got a pdf guide on setting up an MIS connection and the report that we used to get the data out - pm me (before tuesday - i'm away after that) if you want them.

Could be, although not being able to get in to the file means I can't confirm this.

Another change request plea for those of you with SupportNet accounts that will hopefully stop our cover manager and personel officer moaning: 0810-414054 "Because the time slots for absence in P7 has an interval of 30mins and cover 7 is 5mins, there are issues with absence going across periods in cover if the absence is put in P7. The applications would work better if the times are consistent/the same."

Not tried, but then it's not happen to every pupil. So far, I think the total count is 5 or 6 but I want to stop whatever is happening so it doesn't get any worse.

The pupils say they haven't taken them home and they haven't been modified on a different version because we only use 2003. I have the compatibility pack installed on my machine and they won't open, nor will then open striaght into PowerPoint 2007 that I have on another machine.

We have a problem here where some pupils cannot open previously created powerpoints in Powerpoint 2003. They seem to get a variety of error messages: PowerPoint can't open the type of file represented by filename PowerPoint can't read the outline from filename. No text converter is installed for this file type. I've tried multiple solutions found on the web, critical updates and hotfixes from Microsoft that we already have installed We are using SP3. Any suggestions or ideas

We were sending e-mails between 2 users in the same domain wasn't working. My uderstanding was that if the user was in the same domain the group could be global, but this is aparantly not the case because as soon as we changed the group to universal it jumped into life. Did you try it?

How have you got the lockout policy set through group policy? Is it on the default domain or default domain controller policy? What about putting it on the the OU where you user accounts are and put the accounts you don't want to apply the policy to in a seperate OU?

We had a simular problem recently just without the NDRs, our e-mails were simply disappearing... Do you have a multi-domain forest? If so, what group scope (domain local, global or universal) is your distribution group? I changed our ICT Support group to universal from global and the problem was sorted. We had the same problem just the other day with our Intel Nics and a Netgear switch. Turned out to be that we had Spanning Tree turned on. As soon as we turned it off, the errors went away and everything returned to normal.

Over the last couple of days some e-mails sent to our ICT Support distribution group are not being delivered to any members of the group. When I look at the tracking details for these messages i've got 4 entries: SMTP Store Driver: Message Submitted from Store SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer This is where it stops It's only happening to selected messages, some get delivered fine and the logs show that they were delivered to all members of the group. It appears to happen at random times, for example, today at 15:02 an e-mail was sent that never arrived, but at 15:42 an e-mail was sent that did arrive There is nothing showing as in the queues! I've looked at eventvwr, nothing along the lines of a warning event or critical event I've had a search on the net, but everything points towards AV software stopping the mail, or related to forwarding e-mails none of which apply to me. Anybody have any suggestions?

We are looking into SIMS Mobile also. Will it quite happily run on the same server as SIMS and SQL 2005?
