Forcing people to a room at logon doesn't have to be done by a superuser, it can be done at school administrator level (at least thats how our LA have it setup) This is how I did it: 1: create your room (if it's not already created) and embed the content onto your Frontpage 2: on the admin section, select your all staff contact group, click the Settings tab and goto Design 3: click on "Add room as seperate tab" and select the room you want them to goto at logon, click save. 4: make sure the radio button next to the room you've just added is selected. Now at logon all members of the all staff group will automatically goto that room at logon assuming you have enrolled them as members.

Doesn't look like there is a way to stop it doing that and i'm not sure what the reasoning behind it is.

There is a way to download all of your photos in one go..... Presumably the folder is in the Resources folder. Find the folder contianing the photos, click on the arrow next to the folder which brings up a menu and select Export Folder. This will export the folder as a .zip file and will contain all you photos. Any other quesitons feel free to PM me, i'd be happy to help or pass on any advice I can.

We use the VLE Export tool to export our SIMS data to Fronter. We've had a problem since Friday where the task would not stop running when it had finished. I deleted the task and re-created it. Now, whenever it attempts to run it generates an error in the Application log saying: Another instance of VLEExport is already running. Nothing is shown under processes in Task Manager, i've rebooted the server and still it insists that another instance is already running.

Have removed the entries manually, recreated in both forward and reserver lookup zone, now if I look up the FDQN it resolves the correct address, if I lookup the netbios name it resolves an incorrect address that isn't present in DNS?!??!? I've also cleard the netbios cache on both DNS servers.

Can't enable it without the premium license and at £1500 it could be a stab in the dark!

I'm having an absolute nightmare with Ghost and Multicasting...... Historically we have used unicast, but now I have some time I thought I would look at getting multicast working correctly. I've (think) i've configured the switches correctly. We have an HP Core (5406zl) and HP Edge switches (2810). According the to manual on each vlan I should be typing "ip igmp" to enable it. Then setting the ghost task to multicast. When I run the task the client connects to the session and says "waiting for the ghostcast session to start" and the ghostcast server says "ghostcast in progress" - nothing ever happens. Any ideas why or what i've missed Cheers Adam.

[ms office - 2003] Problems saving Publihser 2003 files
adamf replied to adamf's topic in Office Software
Thats it! I didn't realise Publisher saved files that way. Adding CREATOR OWNER works. Thanks for that! -
I've setup a "handin" folder for pupils to save work, but so they cannot delete it and i'm having a problem with them saving publisher files to it. When they attempt to save a file they get an error, but the flle doesn't exist! "The file already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" If you click Yes, you get this error: Cannot save . The folder is marked as read only. I've checked and the folder is no read only. If you click No, the error goes away, but a 0KB PUB file is created but cannot be opened. I've checked both share and NTFS permission and they are correct, I know this becuase I don't have problems saving any other office documents. Any ideas?

Are the affected clients getting the correct DNS server addresses and the correct default gateway?

DHCP Relay on your core switch? I had this with our DHCP servers - change the IP addresses and forgot to update the core switch!

Since upgrading to the March release the cover manager has picked up on a couple of problems with cover - anybody else seeing these? 1: The number of activities requiring cover differs from what actually needs covering - this week it's less, next week it's more!???! 2: Non-teaching staff now appear in the cover diary - they didn't before, could this just be a tickbox somewhere? I've got a case logged, but just wondering if it's just me! Cheers Adam.

Been a bit slow at replying, unticking bi-directional support fixed it! -
Printer not printing until spooler is restarted
adamf replied to adamf's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
We have 40 network printers and this is the only one with the problem. I don't think moving the spooler will make a difference. -
We have one particular printer, a Hp LaserJet 1022n that refuses to print until the spooler is restarted on the server. The pupils and staff can connect to the printer and the queue fills up but nothing happens after that. I've re-created the printer, the port, re-installed the driver, all of which make no difference. Any ideas? Cheers Adam.

Fronter costs us £7000 per year based on our school size of 1900 pupils - I suspect that is part-subserdised by the London Grid for Learning.
-
You can put them in server settings and they apply to all scopes. It might be worth looking at this also - The "Lease duration for DHCP clients" option is set to 0 and some DHCP scope options disappear on a Windows Server 2003-based DHCP server We had a problem where someone has reserved the network address and whenever the DHCP server service was restarted, or the server was rebooted the scope is was reserved on would loose it's default gateway setting as would the clients it was leasing to.

ISA 2k6 - uploading files to Fronter
adamf replied to adamf's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
@SYNACK Worked! Thanks. -
More of a how would I do this question................... We need to provide less restrictive internet access for our sixth formers in a certain part of the building and tighten it back up when they are in the library. We've got another ISA server which will have a different set of rules and NAT'd to an IP address which is excluded from our curriculum filtering policy (provided by the LGfL) - that bit is sorted. It's the group policy settings thats got me stumped. Setting the proxy server is under Internet Explorer Maintanence which is under User Configuration so if I set it there then it will apply to them no matter where they logon - not what I want. How can I set the proxy server so it only applies to a certain set of machines when they logon
-
No.....but then I haven't done that on the other working terminal server. What exactly does it do?
-
It's running via TS so it's 2k3 based. I'll give filemon/regmon a go and try to see what is going on.

Is this Policy Central Enterprise from Forensic Software? In the admin console do you have a user called "uninstall"? We had problems removing it from a machine when we were testing and it was because we didn't have this user in the console. It needs to be an Admin user and I think the password can be anything you like. Now when you use the uninstall option from the remote deploy utility you should be able to get rid of it - it might require a couple of reboots! Hope that helps.

Offline files not showing when staff member leaves school building?
adamf replied to featured_spectre's topic in Windows
We've also got this problem. Does anybody have any ideas? -
When I rebuilt the server, I didn't get round to re-installing office - so that be ruled out too! Edit: I've also now installed office and i'm getting the same error. I don't think it is to do with the app data folders because I'm not getting to the stage where I could export a marksheet.
