  1. Hi, am currently looking at doing some MCTS courses, starting with 70-640 and 70-643, on-line with e-careers.co.uk. Was wondering whether anyone else had done the courses, or if anyone has used e-careers for other courses and what they thought of them. Grateful for any feedback or advice. Judy
  2. Many thanks, do you know where I can access the advice re. split/amalgamated domains have not found anything on the internet so far?
  3. Yes,that Croydon! Many thanks for your reply
  4. Hi, We have recently got a new Principal at our school who wants me to write a report on the pros and cons of seperating our domain into admin and curriculum, and or having sperate subnets. We are a small independent school with around 350 students and around 200 machinesand the network was all set up when I got here. Have read a few posts on this site on schools merging their networks but not the other way round. It is something I know very little about, I was wondering if anyone could give me a few ideas or point me in the direction of some useful info so that I can write something that will give the impression I know what I'm talking about. Thanks Judy
  5. Hi, in order to run our shutdown program from the server to all our computers every evening we need "File and Printer Sharing" enabled on the client machines.I have enabled this through Group Policy. On the client machines Firewall setting exceptions "File and Print Sharing" is now listed twice, once for Group Policy which is ticked as an exception and another entry which is not ticked. This seems to override my Group Policy as sharing is switched off. Once I manually switch File sharing on,on the client machine my shut down program will then get through and switch the machine off. Have spent several days not getting very far! Any ideas why my group policy seems to be being ignored ? Judy:(
  6. No! Good Point, will do so now. Judy
  7. many thanks for the suggestions ,I did try to correct things in the alternate mappings area on Friday afternoon but it has made no difference to the problem. The problem occurs purely when we create a new folder or document. When we upload existing documents they upload to the right place ie http:/portal.... All new folders and docs go to the internal address EduGeek.net.... I will perservere on Monday though.
  8. We have published out Sharepoint site with a public name of https://portal.ctc.ac.uk/ which we can access with no problem. We can access documents and files uploaded on "Document Libraries" with no problems. The path would be as an example https://portal.ctc.ac.uk/Dept/IT/test/CTC%20EMAIL%20VIA%20INTERNET.pdf But when we create folders within the document libary the address/path of that folder reverts to the internal adress eg http://moss.ctc.ac.uk:10000/Dept/IT/test/........ So we cannot access that folder outside the college. We have just gone live with our site, spent an inset day training tutors, they have all created their own folders in departmant document libraries and of course nobody can access them . It has not gone down well!! I am at a loss, any help would be much appreciated. Judy:confused
  9. cheers everybody for the input:)
  10. Hi, I work in a small sixth form college Heritage was already installed here when the Librarian and I both started. Our Librarian is thinking of recommending that management scrap Heriatage and purchase Eclipse instead as she hates Heritage so much. She was wondering if anyone else out there uses heritage and what their opinions are of it. Any opinions would be very useful
  11. many thanks, we'll have a look at that
  12. We are contempating digitaly archiving papers and articles currently stored in our library, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of doing the same and had any advice, as we know nothing!
