Hi Folks, It appears that we are getting the same issue with our Ghost Images and Sophos not talking to the Remote Server correctly (i.e. Seeing all the stations as the same machine!) Do you know if I can use the batch file that "Lord_Edam" has provided on computers AFTER they have all been sysprep'ed and working. I.E. can I run it from a GPO as a Startup or Login script on the computers all will this cause further problems once the machines are connected to the domain. If so, are there any other methods of fixing this problem VIA a script/GPO to all our machines that have been imaged without having to go to each machine and re-install SOPHOS. Thanks Matt

Thanks for the reply... Server 2003 DOES show settings for WPA and TKIP, but doesn't allow you to choose WPA2-PSK AES. The clients are all Windows XP machines all with Service Pack 3 installed and with all the latest updates. The only reason I mentioned Windows Vista is it would appear that you HAVE to use Windows Vista (or later) that is connected to the domain and has the Group Policy Management Snap In installed under Admin Tools in order to configure a GPO using WPA2-PSK for the Windows XP machines if using Server 2003 if you get my drift, all a very long winded way around it! All I'm wondering is, if I have updated the AD Schema for 802.11 on the server, and I have made the GPO changes on the Vista machine (connected to our AD) , SHOULD Windows Server 2003 then see when I go into Group Policy Management, Click on Settings for the GPO Object report to come up, the correct settings I entered in on the VISTA machine, or is Server 2003 still not able to report back the correct settings beacuse it still doesn't know about it? Cheers Matt

Hi Guys, We set up a new Ruckus Wireless Network over the holidays and configured it with WPA2-PSK - AES Encryption. I have a Group Policy on one of my OU Groups (Set of Laptops on a Trolley in the Library) where I want it to connect to this Wireless SSID using the WPA2-PSk - AES, but Server 2003 doesn't give me this option. Prior to the holidays we had it working but didn't have WPA2-PSK setup. I have followed this guide I found on the internet and have updated the 802.11Schema.ldf file on the AD Server, and have used the Windows Vista Remote Network Admin Group Policy Management tool to set the correct settings for this WiFi connection. When I do a preview of the settings on the Vista Machine for this Group Policy setting everything shows correctly, but on the Server 2003 machine when i go to view the settings, it's not correct. My question is, should after updating the Schema on the AD server, although I can't edit the settings, should it display as being WPA2PSK as Authentication and AES as Encryption, (IE, the settings I have entered in when connected from the Vista machine) or will is still show up as what Server 2003 thinks it should be? Cheers Matt

Filtering wireless with Dansguardian (ruckus and dlink)
mattpant replied to Shorty's topic in Wireless Networks
Fingers crossed somebody will have an answer on how to do this... what I think is missing from the console, and hopefully can be included in a future update is a proxy forwarder. Hopefully there is a way around it! Cheers Matt- 20 replies

Filtering wireless with Dansguardian (ruckus and dlink)
mattpant replied to Shorty's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi Guys, I'm trying to do the exact same thing with our Wireless LAN (Ruckus, running the latest Firmware) and giving students that access the Guest SSID access to our Internet VIA a Proxy server, i can't get my head around how to do it, also, would the students using there own laptops need to go in and enter a proxy server under there Internet Options to get out onto the internet or can the Ruckus Kit push this setting out so when they connect to the Guest SSID with a Guest Pass the internet will just "Work"! Thanks, Matt- 20 replies

RUCKUS help - Guest access & the internet via Proxy
mattpant replied to jamin100's topic in Wireless Networks
Ok, Say I just setup a "Guest" WLAN for Students (and Visitors) where we generate pass codes out for them, is there away in which the RUCKUS ZoneDirector can automatically push out the proxy settings forr Internet Access to the students/visitors laptop? Also, how do we make sure they only get Internet access and not access to our school network/file servers etc, can they be given a totally different IP Address/Range? I can't find any info on setting this sceniro up in any support documents etc. Thanks Matt -
RUCKUS help - Guest access & the internet via Proxy
mattpant replied to jamin100's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi, I've just had installed a Ruckus Wireless network and wish to setup the exact same thing, I have an SSID which has encryption setup for which the staff will connect to to access the school network etc, I also wish to have a "Guest/Student" style SSID which will allow only access to the Internet which goes out thr a proxy server, ideally for students, instead of having to enter a "Guess Pass" could they enter there AD Username and Password to get onto the internet, this will mainly be 6th Form Students bringing in their own personal laptops to access the Internet when in the 6th Form Study Room/Common Room. How would I go about setting this up, we are running the very latest Firmware Version, 8.0.1.0.15 (I think) Do you have any step by step guides you used please? Thanks Matt -
Just ordered my copy of Home Premium from PC World website, order taken with no problems they are doing it for £44.99 inc VAT and Free P+P, roll on October 22nd! I have been playing about with the RC for a while now on a laptop and even a VLite'ed Beta version on a EEE PC and I like what I see so far! Matt

Hi, Is there a ISO or URL on SOLUS where I can download a whole new Sims Setup Folder that has all the latest files needed to install SIMS. I'm not convinced that our current folder has all the latest files needed to setup a SIMS workstation from scratch. When I run SIMSinst from our server, it loads the old version of the file, it goes through the setup and installs SimsInfrastructure 1.0, eventually the install finishes, but before I can use SIMS on the desktop I must run the SIMSINFRASTRUCTUREUPDATE file, which takes another 20-30 minutes before it will work, When done, it does run the latest version of SIMS we have on our server, so updates are working OK. Am I correct in thinking that if my SIMS setup folder was all upto date, I should have the new SIMSinst file to run the setup, and it should install a newer version of the framework and sims would be ready to run without further running the infrastructureupdate all from the one install program. I have downloaded the March09Main ISO from SupportNet, thinking this would contain all the setup files, and I could just delete the current SETUPS folder and replace, but it doesn't appear to have all the files. Any pointers? Thanks Matt

I went along on Friday and this year I had the tactic of not wearing my name badge and keeping it in my pocket! You don't get approched then! I've been previous years and they just scan across looking at badges to get talking to you. When i wanted to talk to somebody I approched the stand, then took out my name badge should they wish to scan it! Simple!

I have just taken delivery of 15 new Dell laptops which will be used Wirelessly in our School library. After disabling the Intel software that came with the WiFi Card, and allowing Windows to manage the WiFi Connection and setting "Always wait for Network Connection" in GP I can get the laptops to logon wirelessly without any problems, What I would like to do, if at all possible is create a local mandatory profile for all users using these laptops to help speed up the logon times wirelessly. All I would want on the desktop is just the MS Office Icons. At the moment students pick up a similar Mandatory profile from the server (Which I would still want them to have when not using these laptops) How would I achieve this? Would I need some kind of loopback policy in place? Cheers Matt

Agreed, but the marksheet entrys have not been setup yet for the new Academic Year! What I cna't understand is why this functionality of eexport to Excel already appears in A/M, and not in classlist or lesson monitor, shorly the coding is already in place??
-
OK Folks, it's that time of year again when staff like to have all their classlists setup in excel so they can make use of the names for all kinds of weird and wonderfull things they like to do with them... When will Teaching Staff have the ability to produce their own classlists from sims and export it to Excel files? Our (teaching) staff don't have access to Nova T4 (And not really an option to set them all up to use it) I have played about with creating a custom report, but was quite messy and not as easy/good as what is in Nova. I have been asking for Years for maybe some kind of "Export" button on Lesson Monitor , like you have when using Assesment Manager Marksheets, to allow the staff to export the list of names > forms > etc into such files. I'm aware that selecting print in Lesson Monitor alows you to save as an XML file, but that saves the whole register and opens up rather messy in Excel This is one thing that staff always seem to want and seems mad that it's not available already? Maybe Phil you could shed some light on this? Cheers Matt

Hi Just come across this post, yeah we're using the Sims Connector on a Canon IRC4800, works fine no problems as yet, let me know if you want any more info Matt
-
Would love to know if this could be done aswell! I know you can turn it off from one of the screens, but that only applys to a particular block, but would be great if there was a global setting to switch it off throughout. It's sooooo annnoying when trying to manual schedule classes! Cheers Matt

I've just been asked to setup the exact same thing!! Can you shed some further info mation on your Setup, what programs are you using? the free Tight VNC or something else? What settings have you put in place Cheers Matt

The Fuser Unit on the FS-1920 (Part Number FK67E) appears to be the same one as found on the FS-3820N Any help much appriciated! Regards Matt

I don't know? I will find out and let you know! That would be great if it would! Cheers Matt

Any news on when SP3 (Final Version) can be downloaded? They orginally spoke of it being avaiable around the same time as Vista SP1 which that was last month sometime!
-
Hi Guys, I'm sure more and more of you are finding yourselves in positions where new laptops only seem to be in the widescreen format, and projectors that you currently have around the schools ceiling mounted etc do not support these new resolutions. What tips/setups are you going down the route of? Are you purchasing new projectors for the new widescreen laptops? This adds to the cost and also will probably need new brackets to ceiling mount etc etc Or are you simply just putting up with it and changing the laptop resolution to something like 1024x768. I hate doing this, as the display on the laptop is awful and would hate anybody working with the incorrect resolution. Any help/tips/ solutions would be gratefully accepted!! Does anybody have any experience of any Wireless Widescreen Projectors that we could use (Mainly for our Tablet PCs) Regards Matt

It all depends on what version of Vista is installed on the Misco Machines, and for £233 I doubt that is going to be anything other than Vista Home Basic. If it is Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium you will not be allowed to install Windows XP Pro (Which is what is needed)

Sorry Phil, But I beg to differ with you... on a number of occasions in the past my Cases with the helpdesk have been closed when I have been waiting for the support desk to issue me with a update/or a fix. I'm STILL waiting for somebody to get back to me with a problem I've been having with Lesson Monitor 6 since the first day of term!!! Also, since installing the August release we have had a few more problems with Lesson Monitor 6, (since putting this update on our support has expired and I've not bothered to re-new it for a number of reasons) I'm sure this will be resolved by the next update.... which is what the helpdesk will probably tell me if I was to re-new the support contract. Another reason why I am very reluctant to re-new the support is because I'm 95% certain that Capita ripped us off when they came to setup are Lesson Monitor. We were charged around £2,000 for an install, what did this involve you may ask? Well I'll tell you... some bloke who ran a DBupgrade patch on our server with a License Key to activate Lesson Monitor, whole process took about 5minutes, £2K for 5 minutes work is not bad going. I'm convinced that Capita charged us £2K for installation (believing that we had never had SIMS installed in school before and would need installing from scratch) But that's not the case... we are already support by our LEA to use SIMS.net and they do the install for that. I've spoken to a number of people in Capita over the last 12months about this charge for the installation and never got very far with it, maybe Phil you could clarify things. Maybe if I PM you with my office number you could give me a call and we could discuss a few things, failing that, I am due to attend the SIMS conference on Wednesday in Manchester if your around. Who else is intending going down? Maybe a good place to express some opinions!!! Regards, Matt
