Did you know that the new SIMs upgrade requires Net Framework 2.0 to run after it upgrades. This caught us out today with a handful of staff laptops. We did the upgrade on the server and then tested a couple of laptops to make sure the Sims.net upgrade went OK. THis is when we found out some of our laptops did not upgrade right. The upgrade seem to work but then we go the XP error beep and no log in box. We tried this both as a limited user and a full admin and still no joy. The only thing was we noticed some of our laptops whose RIS image had not been updated for a while did not have Dot.Net 2.0 > I checked Capita fourms and someone else had posted about it to confirm what we thought. I did not realise the WSUS did not deploy the Net 2.0 but only the service packs. I had to set up a GPO to deploy Net 2.0 in the morning and hopefully this will be picked up on first login and stop Sims from not working after the upgrade.....if not the phone is going to be busy first thing. I can't find any info on Capitas site about this , but i thought that we would have had some heads up on this but maybe i missed it. Hope this helps some of you.

Drop this in a vbscript and put in in the Computer Section of a GPO that contaisn the computers in question. It forces the pc to check for updates and then leaves a marker in the reg, the next time the pc starts again it will check for the marker and not do the update.

If you use a mandatory profile, can you redirect the application data to the same location via GPO so it does not have to be fetched down from the server? Or use something like this? Or is it a different situation with a mandatory profile?

Prevent Standby and Hibernation using GPO
tosca925 replied to roland's topic in How do you do....it?
Below is what we use, the instructions below are to do an individual laptop or pc but we put the exact same settings into a GPO and they work fine for us. Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ControlsFol der\PowerCfg\GlobalPowerPolicy On the Security menu, click Permissions. Either add the users separately, or add the users' group and give all the users full control over this key. Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ControlsFol der\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies On the Security menu, click Permissions. Either add the users separately, or add the user s' group and give all the users full control over this key. In addition, users need to be given the right to shut down the system. To accomplish this, follow these steps: a. In Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click "Local Security Policy". b. In the left pane, expand Local Policies and click User Rights Assignment. c. In the right pane, double-click "Shut down the system", and add each user individually or add the Users group to this local security policy. Making these changes will allow normal users to alter power scheme settings without being added to the Local Administrators group. -

The old school were i worked used to use Eclipse2 for their Library. My current school wants purchase new software for the Library and i have recommended Eclipse. Now after contacting them they told me about Eclispe.net. This intergrates with the VLE we use and so i think it would be a good idea for this especially as our LEA are having a big push on Literacy at the moment. I was wondering if anyone is using the web parts for this yet and how good they are?

Over the summer all our network was upgraded to 3Com. We now need to install some wireless kit for certain areas of the school. I would like to keep it all 3COm across the network but wondered if anyone here is using 3Com Aces points and what you recommendations and Do's and Don'ts are?

In a fit of madness the old NM appears to have thrown away the Cable Management arms/pack from the two 2950 Dell servers when they were moved in the summer. I have come to tidy things up and can't find the arms anywhere. Its the black mesh brackets that fit onto the back of the server rails. Does anyone have any going or know where or if i can get any from anywhere before i go to Dell?
