Computers Randomly loosing GPO Settings
jonnykewell1 replied to bwestlake's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
sounds like a profile problem to me? Are they actually able to connect to network resources or just local? Do mapped drives appear? -
What version of SIMS are you guys running?

Hi all, Having some problems since I started working at the school with our wireless system. Had a bunch of numpties fit the system a few years back apparently. We have a master and a slave in different parts of the school both netgear WFS709TP. The wireless AP's are WAGL102's. Now we have managed to get by but now i feel it is time to sort this issue as its driving us and some teachers mad. We randomly have AP's that seem to lose network connection, we also have problems that when people move around with a laptop and rejoins the wireless elsewhere not been able to connect back into any of the network drives etc.. Im no expert with managed wireless systems (hense me studying CCNA now to help). I think that between the master the slave and the AP's security settings might differ slightly but surely they wouldn't actually connect to the wireless if that was the case?. They all have the same SSID. If anyone knows about this sort of managed system could you offer any sort of assistant? thanks in advance, Jonny

School Remote Access - How do you do it?
jonnykewell1 replied to tj2419's topic in How do you do....it?
does sonic wall connect to the server and run like a virtual session and then same docs into their mapped areas, or does it need to connect straight into their machine at work? -

Device Name Discovery for Apple
jonnykewell1 replied to phishphan's topic in Network and Classroom Management
yeah It is just for IOS device I think. Have you tried "screaming net tools" app for android devices. does "ping -a " just return the name from the DHCP list? -
Device Name Discovery for Apple
jonnykewell1 replied to phishphan's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I have an app called "inet" that scans our network and seems to find ipods and iphones etc and displays ip address and mac... just use the network scanner feature, leave it to scan and it just gives you a list back. might take some time to go down the list depending on how many ip's you have in your range though. -
Apprentice IT Tech - Sherburn High School
jonnykewell1 replied to timbo343's topic in Educational IT Jobs
nice to see someone actually offering apprenticeships, I know a perfect candidate but he lives near dewsbury, don't think it would be too easy for him to get there though by train or bus. -
that's exactly the problem I had last very strange isnt it, I even tried a newer firmware on the drive. And the bios reset sorted it in the end.

no probs, let me know how it goes, Jonny

We are using the site DL Online - Login and when we fill in our information on the home page and press login nothing happens when staff are logged in. In the bottom corner it displays errors on page related to syntax and .axd files? Now looking around this points to possible java script errors. So I ran a check and the browser definitely has Java script enabled and it's nothing to do with pop up blocker as I checked this when logged in as me on the computer and that is ticked as blocked. I have also looked at group policies and I can not think of anything obvious which would stop the browser functioning as normal. Does anyone have any ideas? thanks

Are the shares all on one server for the different drives? If so can you connect to that server once logged in on the account?
-
Go into the network card settings on your server and make sure file and print sharing for Microsoft networks is ticked (4 up from tcp/ip settings)
-
can you ping your server through name and IP address when logged in? sounds like an issue I had only last week.

Malware on iPhone4 running ios5?
jonnykewell1 replied to elsiegee40's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Another option could be Imessenger, I know I go through tons of messages on there and if him and his mates are messing around pulling faces or whatever it sometimes switches from wifi and sends it as a normal text message if him or the recipient are not connected to wifi or even 3g.I Still think it imessenger is buggy. -

I had love film for a year, can't complain about the service, a few times dvd's didn't turn up rang them up and they just sent out another dvd, it does make you feel guilty though as it was the postal service fault not mine. Trying to cancel is annoying though as you have to do it by phone and sit through 5 minutes of them offering you cut price deals etc which is customer retention after all but i just wanted shut as i wasn't actually using it. It was only a fiver but a fiver that I wasn't using anymore. The streaming service is abit poo tbh. Stick to pirate bay

Advice on what class room management software?
jonnykewell1 replied to IT_Man_Dan's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We use ab tutor, easy to set up and use, great if you want to apply some installs to all the computers at once, log them all on from the teacher pc, send out the install and done. can also set up 2 account 1 for admin one for teacher so teachers can only control the pc's in that class room.
