Thanks. Thankfully as my current one is mid 2011, it too has removable ram. If I go for a new one from Apple, I will max out on ram as it will be soldered in. I am wondering if the hdd and processor in my current mid 2011 will be futureproofed enough. This is quite a new installation and I would expect that it will not be changed for four or so years. Sometimes it is worth spending more now, before it all gets set up.

Hi, We are due to have mac server integrated with our existing RM CC4 Windows based network. We have around 9 or 10 macs which are currently unmanaged. We have a mac mini which I believe may just have the capacity to act as OSX Server, but would be grateful if anyone with more experience in what would pass as good enough could cast their eye over the following specs... The system does have double the factory fitted memory - it has 2 x 4gb. I was wondering if I wiped and re-installed and maybe fitted a solid state drive and changed the ram to 16gb, it would be powerful enough to manage our 10 macs plus maybe double in the near future? Apple no longer do Mac Mini Servers on their site, though I have managed to get the following customised quotations from them:

It seems that Chrome was installed on each model of computer and then imaged via CloneZilla and deployed from said image. It doesn't seem to have been deployed via a GPO. But the fact of the matter is that it works and continues to work fine for users who use their profile responsibly and log off at the end of the day. Those who leave their account logged in for prolonged hours or log onto multiple stations under the same username are the ones with problems. The issue is not restricted to a single computer. Once they get the problem, it will be evident on any networked computer.

Hi, really not sure what is going wrong here. We have Server 2012 R2, and Windows 7 client computers. Teaching staff have a roaming profile each. We are getting a high volume of staff members complaining that they can't access the internet. I have taken a look and whilst their computer is able to access the network and internet, the internet browser; Chrome refuses to open when they click on it. Going to windows explorer and typing a web address in the address bar does nothing. The only way I have managed to resolve the issue is to delete their profile and recreate a new one when they re-log in. This resolves the issue. What could be causing this odd problem? Everything else works fine (printing, file shares, word etc), it is just the internet icons.

Thanks for your post, yes a very useful feature of HP hardware. I did not set this one up, but it certainly looks like Intelligent Provisioning was used. There are no missing drivers and it looks to be a very sound install.

Ok, I have plugged in a network connection to the iLO adapter and now have access to iLO. Status>System Health is showing as Degraded. If I click on System Health, Subsystems and Devices shows that Storage is degraded. If I click on Storage, I see the following..... It says that the Cache Module Status is degraded, but everything else seems fine. What can I do to rectify this? On a side note, Power Supply Status is looking good, no errors in that section. I am in the process of going through the iLO event log to see what was going on at the time of the resets. Last night I left an unsaved text file open on the server, and I note that it did not restart. I did also do as Geoff suggested and unticked reboot in Startup and Recovery.

Ok, I have searched the entire System part of the event log for 1001, 1003 and 6003 and there is nothing at all. - - - Updated - - - Can't get on to the iLo at the moment as I am connected remotely and not sure of the iLo details. It has the HP Storage Administrator installed, but can't see any iLo software. Would I be able to download anything to look at it now, without physically going there? I have an HP Lights-Out Configuration Utility, but that is it.

No, I have a separate card on this one. It has one HP Smart Array P440/4GB FBWC 12Gb 1-port Int SAS Controller.

Thanks, never used Memtest, will give it a go. - - - Updated - - - Presumably, if this is a motherboard fault, switching the MB out with another will not affect my OS or array? I have not had such a fault in a very long time, so a little unclear on any potential problems it could cause.

Ok, that looks good but how would I power this via the UPS as I have a feeling that these sorts of switches come with small figure 8 power bricks?

The servers are together in their own room (server room) and the switches are housed in a large rack in another room. They are not both in the same place. The servers have four network points in their room which route directly back to the room with the switches in. I can't believe that little model could handle Vlans. Would it be able to deal with the traffic coming in and out of that room?

Ok, so getting a UPS with network connectivity seems the best option, however then I need to run a separate switch which is on the UPS. This would work well if the server was housed in a rack with the switches, but unfortunately, it is stored in a totally separate room. We have two servers, with a total of 4 NICs in use, plus vlans. So we are going to need a separate switch which sits in the room with the server. I currently use 1gb HP managed switches, but I believe the minimum port size for a managed layer 3 switch from hp is 24. Is that correct? Seems wasteful to get a 24 port switch when I would only be using a total of 5 ports.

Hi, Have never had an issue like this, and would greatly appreciate any help on what could be going wrong. We have a brand new HP ProLiant ML350 Gen9 E5-2603v3 which is a matter of months old. On almost a daily basis now, when I log into it (Server 2012) it pops up with an unexpected shutdown box. At first, I thought the UPS must have been failing, so I removed this from the server. But still the messages continued. Next I wondered if there was a fault with the power in the server room, so I changed power sockets, but still this issue is persisting. I am in the process of ordering a new UPS for it, but I am beginning to wonder if there is actually something wrong with the server its self. It has two x HP 500W Flex Slot Platinum Hot Plug Power Supply Kit. When the issue began, I removed one of the power supply kits and ran it on just one directly to the mains, but this has not helped. Does anyone have any suggestions for what could be causing this? These are the errors I am seeing very regularly....

Hi there, I have a macbook pro which is failing to boot. I have taken the back off and can see there appears some corrosion around the battery connector and one of the capacitors near by. Does anyone with any experience of this know if this would be the cause? This is a 2011 model.

By clean install are you talking about inserting a W10 USB and formatting the disk, as opposed to upgrading from 8.1 to 10 and then going to Settings>Update &Security>Recovery and performing a fresh install?

Same problem, interestingly, I am finding the same thing happens if I try and access a classroom computer. Firewalls are all disabled.

The error is on explorer: I have double checked DHCP Server Options for both IPv4 and 6, and all tick options are unticked, with no DNS info on them. So it is all clear. PC does not have any ::1 and have tried on multiple PCs just to be sure.

Ok, one further problem I have found is the following: If I browse to the secondary server using its IP address: 10.75.244.11, no problem, I am able to see all of its shared folders. But if I browse via hostname: stm-sr-002, I am presented with the following error: \\stm-sr-002 is not accesible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect. Any ideas on what could be causing this, as I am perfectly able to access the server from the same machine by just entering in the host name.
