I set both values to obtain automatically. That is what it was before. Not sure how that value got in there in the first place!

Thanks again for your help and everyone's suggestions. To confirm, the cause was an entry in the IPv6 DNS area of: "::1" Once this was removed, and the server rebooted and DNS flushed, it behaved.

Not sure, see my last post. I have removed it and bounced server, but DNS issue remains. Ok. After removing the ::1, and following through your following instructions: If so... delete both DNS records on the DC, then on the other IPConfig /flushdns ---> IPConfig /registerdns It is now working, so it looks like it was the mysterious ::1 which was causing this issue.

I may have found the cause of the DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : ::1 10.75.44.10 I checked in IPv6 and there was ::1 entered for the DNS server. I don't know how that was put in there as it was not me. Have removed and currently bouncing.

It seems that some of the more expensive APC ones have network capability. Would I just install the PowerChute Software and it would search for the UPS via the network? Thanks, clever stuff. Presumably, the signals are sent down the network to warn the server that the power is off. Obviously, switch would need to be on UPS also as localzuk mentioned.

Good morning, I currently have two rack mounted HP servers which do not have any form of UPS. We usually use APC and I would be keen to get something in place as soon as possible. My only concern is how would both servers know when to gracefully shut down if a standard UPS only comes with one USB cable to connect to a server. I was hoping a model such as this, would do the job, however I noticed that an expensive model such as this only comes with one USB point. I would be really grateful if anyone could offer me some advice on this.

Yes, RDP via statically assigned IP to secondary server works no trouble at all, from any system on the network. RDP via hostname to the second server is where the problem lies.

Thanks for your helpful posts. In response to your first post: Are they replicating? - nope, we have just one FRDC, the secondary server is joined just as a normal member (like a client computer) Are your server IP's set to static in DNS? They are statically assigned, I was not aware that they could be set to static in DNS. Where could I check this? Any duplicate IP's - no duplicates, all client machines obtain IP via DHCP and scope is not in the range of IPs used by the servers. Are you using Scavenging to clear DNS out? No. In response to your last post: Forward Lookup Zones shows both primary and secondary server IPs (ending 10 and 11 respectively) as (same as Parent Folder) Host(A). Reverse Lookup Zones is empty and has Add a New Zone as title. "The Domain Name System (DNS) allows a DNS namespace to be divided into zones. Each Zone stores information about one or more contiguous DNS domains. To add a new zone, on the Action Menu, click New Zone."

What you put makes sense, but they are out of the DHCP scope. The DHCP scope is 10.75.44.20-219 and the respective server IPs are 10 and 11. I don't think there are any reservations in place, but as above, the scope starts at 20, and this is confirmed in the Address Pool.

Good morning, I am not quite sure what on earth has gone wrong here. We have two servers running on our domain. An FRDC running Ranger 8.0 on Windows 7 client computers. We then have a second server which is joined to the domain just as a member and serves as our antivirus and backup server. Both run server 2012. The FRDC has DHCP, DNS and Active Directory with a statically assigned IP of: 10.75.44.10. Its host name is stm-sr-001 The second server has a statically assigned IP of: 10.75.44.11, its host name is stm-sr-002. I am finding it impossible to rdc to the second server using it's hostname. If I try even from the FRDC, It connects me to a class room computer. It first says that the connection cannot be completed (when authenticating with the domain administrator account): If I use another domain account, it authenticates, and works, but loads up an RDC session for a class room computer: You will notice in the above screenshot, I have also pinged the hostname of the second server (from the first) and then tracerted it and found that the hostname is indeed a classroom computer. If I rcd the secondary server IP address from the FRDC, it works. What could be the problem here? I have attempted a DNS restart, DNS flush and bounce of both servers, but it has not made any difference.

Hello there, I have an HP EliteDesk 800G1 USDT with an i5-4570S2 2.90GHz processor and 16gb of ram - more than enough you would expect. I don't think it is more than a year old. I am finding on boot up in particular, it is slow. Explorer often crashes when you open it. Obvious things like defrag, start up items, chkdsk have been checked or performed. What I am noticing is that Taskman is always showing the disk at 100% which seems rather high. Disk activity does die down after 5 or so minutes to around 22%. Does anyone know what I should do next? These are ultra slim machines and as such run a laptop sized hdd. Could this be the root of the issue?

Hi, yes I meant the TCPIP settings. As far as I know, there is no entry for server two on the DNS for server one. Is there any way I can check this?

I work for a number of schools who have the same server 2012 set up as a FRDC with DHCP, DNS, Active Directory and Group Policy all running from the sole server. One school in particular always seems to have domain trust problems on client computers. On a weekly basis, we have between one and four systems which drop off of the network and display "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed". The only way to resolve this issues, is to remove the system from the domain, and rejoin it. At first, we thought that the users were putting systems on standby repeatedly which could have caused the problem. I prevented this by disabling standby via GPO, however the problem still remains. Both client machines and server have firewall disabled and use Ranger 8. I have suspicions that there could be problems on the network in general. Can anyone recommend any steps I can take to try and prevent this recursive problem?

Hi, I have two 2012 servers. The FRDC runs DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, and Ranger (from RM). I then have a second 2012 server which is joined to the domain as a member. This server is responsible for backing up via Backup Exec and runs Sophos Enterprise Management Console. If I wanted to browse to server one, I would just enter in the hostname: \\stm-sr-001. If I attempt to browse to server two: \\stm-sr-002\ it refuses to resolve unless I am browsing from server one. If I use a client computer to browse to server two, it refuses unless I enter in it's IP address: \\10.75.44.11 Both servers have firewall disabled. Server two has a statically assigned IP address and its dns points to server one. Am I doing something wrong?

Everything is working well, however I have noticed that the copies which have installed are not activated. How can I sort this out? I did add the KMS key to Volume Activation Tools, but it does not appear to have helped.

Thanks, that is really helpful. I have added it as a domain member and created a new OU for it called secondary servers. I would like it to manage WSUS too, so I have given it a separate OU so I can configure its firewall settings etc. So far, so good. Just need to get Sophos on next.

I think you may have solved the problem. The gaps in the batch scrip you unearthed were also present in the xml document. The space was also present in the actual directory. I have sorted it, doubt it would have caused an issue as all references to that path had "" around them which should cope with a space. I have changed the GP from a Shutdown script to a Startup and it is now working perfectly! Thanks for the help - - - Updated - - - I had initially used the utility you have helpfully suggested. Maybe it did not save correctly the first time round?
