Internally, I would be happy using VNC if it is any good. Was not aware you could still get it free. I would love to investigate this more, but LGFL won't even let me view your link. I get the filter page telling me: "The page you have tried to access has been blocked because it is classified as : Remote Access Tools" There is protective, and then over protective! Will have to take a look at home.

Hi there, For years, I was happily using Log Me In to access my school systems. At one point, I had it installed on each and every computer, making it a doddle to remotely connect un-attended and do whatever needed doing. Then LGFL (we are based in London and use London Grid for Learning broadband) restricted remote access tools. Log Me In was banned. The replacement; Centra Stage is not really my favourite. It just doesn't do it for me, and they now charge for the full version. Rav3 from LGFL works well, but is no good if you wish to log in whilst a user is already running a session in their log in. I use RAV3 for the servers all the time, but I need something to use when connecting to individual computers such as \\librarypc I could, of course use RDC, but this is essentially the same as RAV3. I need something different else. I had looked at VNC, but it appears even this has changed since the days when I used to use it. It now appears, you need to pay for it. Can anyone recommend or tell me what they use? Does anyone have paid for VNC and is it worth it? Thanks

Ok, makes sense. I have just created a new account on our internal mail system. Will take a few hours to propagate, so I can't set up a new apple ID quite yet until this new email goes through. I will update accordingly on my progress.

Thanks again for your post. Ok, by 'the machine' I assume you mean the mac we are using to run Apple Configurator? Also, when you say connect and authorise the account, do you mean connect it to my VPP one so they are linked? Ok this is a problem. When I am on the VPP page, I select the App I want, but I am not given an opportunity to request redeemable codes. Please see attached screenshots. In terms of using the VPP account, I am not too fussed, the kids are primary school aged, so they are not clued up and our vpp account does not have a credit card associated with it at this time. If that changes, I will duly change the account linked to the iPads! Thanks so much for your help.

Hi there. Thanks for your fast reply. We currently have only one account set up which is ict@schooldomain. When we set the iPads up, we used this to join them to the iCloud. The iPads are going to be used by both staff and students, but staff will not be wanting to install apps onto the devices or use them out of school, so it might be better to consider these as being used by students.

Good morning, I would very much appreciate some assistance on this. I have set up a VPP account for my school. - Took weeks for Apple to sort themselves out, but finally it is on and working. I am able to log in to VPP, select the App I want and when I click purchase, it shows in my purchase history with 'Managed Licences' next to it. I am unable to log in to iTunes any more on my Apple Configurator mac laptop as it says: "Your Apple ID Can't Be Used in This Store. This Apple ID is associated with the Volume Purchase Programme for Education. Options: Use Different Apple ID or Go To VPP for Education". My question is, how do I now deploy the apps to my 16 iPads? Before, I would go onto iTunes, download the app, find it in the library in the Mobile Applications folder, import the necessary ipa file into Apple Configurator and assign it to the iPads. But this does not seem possible now as I am unable to log into the system to download the ipa file I need. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Good morning, Does anyone know if it is possible to join a fresh server to a network running two different domains which are not joint? I am working in a school with two separate servers: One for the admin network (server 2008) One for the curriculum network (server 2003) The networks are not running a vlan, and each server is not linked to the other. The third, new server (server 2012) I would like to add will be for Sophos Antivirus and WSUS duties, so it would need to be running on both networks ideally. Any help on this would be really appreciated!

Ok thanks, this update was present on the new Win 12k server, and removed, but was not present in the bad Win 2008 server. I removed from win 12k server and bounced, but it still refuses to find any updates. It just says checking updates for hours with no result. Thanks, that was a very helpful way of finding them.

The problem is that it will not even show the updates. If I visit update history, it is just a blank white page.

If that is the case, how can I get around it? Server is worryingly out of date, with no way of getting it back up to date.

Thank you I have learned something new. Ok starting with the first half: The first registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\HPWMIStorage\StorageSyst em\Temp had the right permissions. However, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\xmlprov\Parame ters\SchemaGroups\User\ did not. It had Read only enabled for System. I changed this to full control, however when I hit apply, it says: I am logged in as a system administrator on the server.

hmm, ok local addresses resolve perfectly well. This is a FRDC server, so it there were local issues, no one would be able to log in. In terms of a tracert: Faulty server: Good server: Very similar traces by the looks of it.

How would I check this? Are you able to check permissions in regedit? Don't believe I have ever checked such a thing before.

No, it is just a .local on. In this instance, smsch.local. The working server has bgfiadm.local. They both have an identical internet connection with the same provider; LGFL, so I know it can't be a ISP related issue.

Thanks very much for your post. I do have internet connectivity on the server, the brower works very well, no proxies and no proxies have mistakenly gone on to any of the policies. Hi all, I had been getting the 0x80070005 error when trying to install Windows Updates or trying to install MSU files. I found the following Microsoft Tech article and followed through it. It works away for quite some time, and the final result on the console is as follows: The failed section appears to show quite a large number. Does anyone know if this is normal? Also, the problem still exists, this fix does not appear to have helped. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

This is exactly the same problem I have had with the FRDC server which is why I bought a new one so I could start moving things over (with the new one as a DC), but it has clearly picked some bad policy or something up when it joined as a DC. What can I do in this situation?!

Good evening, A while ago I posted a thread on this forum regarding a server 2008 system I had which appeared to have a selection of permission problems resulting in it being unable to download or display installed updates. It had not installed updates for years and was in a terrible state. I have recently installed a new server 2012 system and have joined it as a DC so I can migrate the user accounts over. 1 hour ago, the 2012 system was fully up to date with all updates installed and working, and now, since it has become a DC, it is unable to check its updates and shows a white space in the View Update History section of windows updates. What is the problem here?! I have never come across this anywhere else.

Not too sure what to make of this! I was handed the following iPad and told it's touch sensitivity was no more. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that there was some sensitivity but it was very limited. I also found that whatever you pressed on, a border appeared around. I did not have the iCloud user details to hand, so opted to install the IOS update as this was still on 7. Unfortunately, it has made little change. If you look at the attached screen, you will see the border around the last area I pressed; 'Update Completed'. You have to press lots of times for this to happen. I am able to get to the Settings page, but can't scroll down very far, not far enough to attempt to reset it from the device. Any suggestions would be wonderful.
