Steve, aka DNS God, you are again correct. nslookup continues to fail and yes I would quite like to address the reverse, will need to do a little reading up on it as this is a live server and I don't want to mess anything up. With regards DHCP, I had already thought about that one, I set the scope as .20-219, this gave me a few 1-19 for servers, tills, printers etc, and then 220-255 for anything else.

In sysvol\domain\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\ there was only one language folder and that was en-us. I have put it in there, but I am getting an error when opening Group Policy which says: Administrative Templates An appropriate resource file could not be found for file \\stm.internal\SysVol\stm.internal\Policies\PolicyDefinitions\chrome.admx (error-2):The system cannot find the file specified.

It works! So the resolution was as you suggested, Remove the old DNS A record (which must have been created when the second server was on DHCP, and then re-create the A record with PTR option ticked. Thank you very much for your help and that of all of the other contributors.

Ok, I deleted it and re-added it, as below, but got an error: I do find it odd that in that dialogue box, the FQDN has a full stop at the end. That just doesn't look right to me. Should it not be: stm-sr-002.stm.internal, without the . at the end?

Ok, so let me just check.... I delete the A record stm-sr-002, then right click stm.internal and select New Host (A or AAAA) and in the settings do: ] Name: stm-sr-002 FQDN: "stm.internal." IP address: 10.75.44.11 Leave un-ticked: Create associated pointer (PTR) record Allow any authenticated user to update DNS records with the same owner name. In response to your question, I did set a static reservation for this server, but it is very well possible that it did obtain a DHCP address when it was first installed on the network.

I get the same if I type it on the client or the affected server or even the main frdc server.

If I type in nslookup affected server IP, I get this... Server: Unknown Address: 10.75.44.10 ***UnKnown can't find 10.75.44.11: Non-existent domain

Sadly, the problem still exists, even with the new DNS settings in the DHCP settings area. If I try and browse to our second server \\stm-sr-002 via its hostname rather than URL, I get the error: Open Folder \\stm-sr-002 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect.

Yes, that is our domain name. The DNS server option has not been ticked since we set this server up, but the client machines have always had internet.

Ok, not sure what permissions I should have for the profiles. I did download the ADMX templates from the link you suggested, however I am finding that the file is "chrome.adml". Group Policy will not accept this as it does not have the ADMX template.

DNS option is not ticked, so no it is not there. I have edited it and put in the following DHCP Server Options: 003 Router 10.75.44.1 006 DNS Servers 10.75.44.10 (FRDC server IP address) 015 DNS Domain Name stm.internal I noticed also, that I am able to access the affected server from its self, if I type in: \\stm-sr-002 on \\stm-sr-002, the explorer opens with no problems or errors.

Ok, thanks, I note that is under an ADMX, did you have to import an ADMX file into your Group Policy to allow you to configure that option as I am not sure that would be listed on mine.

Apple seem to think the only way to get it working is to replace the logic board rather than repair. Not sure if it is worth the £400 bill from Apple.

I got it checked at apple and the answer was that as you said, they believe the logic board has failed. No reasons as to why, just that it will need replacing at a cost of £381.60. The question is, should this really be failing on a 4 year old laptop? If it were a Toshiba or similar, you could just write it off, but a +£1000 laptop failing at 4 years old is not that good.
