Thank you thank you thank you! I can't tell you how much time I have wasted trying to work out what these are called!

I have wasted sooo much time trying to find these plastic spacers for network ports. Does anyone know what they are called or where I can find them? Trying to tidy up some of our network wall ports. Some have been installed as two points, but one has been removed leaving a space in the plug. Would be really keen to find out what these are called so I can get some ordered in.

I am looking for some guidance on installing Office 2016 to our Windows 10 client stations in our admin department. We are running a Server 2016 domain server and I note that things seem to have changed considerably since deployment of Office 2013. There are so many different guides, I just don't know where to start. All I am looking to do is install the usual packages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook with UK-English settings. Does anyone have any ideas? I usually do this via Group Policy. I am not looking to have any integration with Office 365 at this point in time

Hi there, I have a school who are using around 35 iPads configured with LightSpeed MDM for management. They would like to be able to access their public area on the server from the iPads so they can view and save things between them. The server is 2016 server. Can anyone recommend a good file browsing app? Ideally a free one as they don't yet have any credit on their VPP account. Thanks in advance.

Windows Deployment Server Windows 10 unattend.xml Language
talksr replied to talksr's topic in Windows Server 2016
Thanks, I am giving that a go now. It is not named all that well is it! I had expected that English would be English, rather than US English, but I guess Microsoft is American, so I should have thought of this. -

Windows Deployment Server Windows 10 unattend.xml Language
talksr replied to talksr's topic in Windows Server 2016
No worries, I found it, but unfortunately and used your script, after running a new WDS image, same issue. Time zone is showing as UTC-08:00 Pacific Time (US & Canada). Country and Region is correct however, but obviously having a wrong clock is no good. Does anyone have any ideas on why this keeps happening? -

Thanks so much, where would the default save path be for this? -
Thanks guys, I have had the electrician down and he has started working on a solution. Just out of interest, does anyone know how many servers an APC 1500VA UPS can take? It has two 'groups' on it, but currently is only running one of our four servers. I am not looking at using this as any way to solve our power problem, just wondering if I could better utilise it. This is model: APC Smart-UPS X 1500 Rack/Tower LCD UPS - 1200 Watt smx1500rmi2unc

Hi there, I have two large data racks with 2 x 12 plug PDUs installed into the rear of them. I am a little concerned at the way in-which the power has been configured for these racks. In summary, each rack has one normal power plug coming from the 12 plug PDU. The pair of these plugs have been plugged in to a double white splitter: This then goes to a single plug in the wall: Obviously, the most sensible option right away would be to get another white cable and split both between two plugs. You will see I have loads of plug points on the wall, so it seems very silly to have it all coming off of one point. Most importantly, the cable is hot to the touch, as this pair of racks have a full 24 plugs plugged into the PDUs. When ever we have a power cut, the circuit breaker for this set of plugs trips so there is clearly far too much load coming off of the one socket. Can anyone suggest a more sensible and safe solution? The cable from the PDUs is too short to stretch to the existing high level plug points.

Thanks everyone. Clonezilla worked a treat.

Hi there, I have got a personal user on site with a 40gb SSD running windows 10. They then have a 500gb conventional drive for their documents. Is it easily possible for me to take the Windows partition on the SSD and move it to a brand new 128gb SSD? I usually use CloneZilla but I don't know if it will be able to handle this.

Hi, Is there an easy way I can easily establish who logged onto a particular Windows 10 domain connected system on a particular date? There seems to be so much in the event log.

Unable to edit some of the local security settings on FRDC
talksr replied to talksr's topic in Windows Server 2016
Fixed, I followed through this: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/35517.windows-server-20122016-adds-troubleshooting-maximum-password-age-grayed-out-cannot-set-password.aspx -
Hi there, Not sure what could be causing this, but I seem totally unable to change the password policy settings on our 2016 server. If I open Local Security Policy and select Account Policies>Password Policy, all of the policies are shown, but if I open any, the options are greyed out. See below: Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have tried logging in as local admin and domain admin, and it makes no difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone, will see if Office will try and recover it. Have advised that she gets a new USB drive.

I have a teacher who spent a day working on a document she had stored on her USB drive. When she came home and tried to open the document, Office says: "We're sorry. We can't open the document because we found a problem with its contents." The details show "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened". She didn't have another copy and we have also noticed that on her USB drive, there are some odd files and folders that have almost Chinese like symbols for file and folder names. I have attached the corrupt file. Does anyone think it is salvageable, or has she lost it? ELG Summer Assessment 2016-17.docx

Hi there, I am using WDS on our 2012 server to deploy Windows 10 Pro 1701607. It installs no problem, auto joins to the domain without an issue, but I am finding that it is setting the timezone to UTC-0800. This means that it does not work on the domain correctly, means I can't change the hostname via power shell. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get it to set the correct one? It is almost as though it thinks it is in the US, but the region settings are correct and set to UK by default. Before I added this version, I was using Windows 10 Pro 1607 and never had this issue post build. It just behaved.

Interesting idea! Maybe I could try this on an older server, if we have one first!
-
Thanks both, yes does sound like more trouble than it is worth. I will go with a separate E drive for now. Shame they had not got the 1tb's initially, as it would have made life a little easier!

Hi, I have an HP server with two 500gb hdds running a RAID1. We have recently ordered two 1tb hdds which will fully populate this four bayed server. The server is running Server 2012 and has a 150gb C partition and a 450 D partition. I am assuming this is not possible, but am I able to add the two new 1TB drives to this existing raid, or would I need to delete the entire raid and start again?

Windows 10 Profiles Refusing to open internet browsers
talksr replied to talksr's topic in Windows 10
Yes, this is what I am getting and it is across multiple sites, so I know it is not just isolated to one school. There has got to be a way of stopping this as it is putting some classes out of action for quite some time. Particularly for users who don't take all that much care of their profiles. -
Windows 10 Profiles Refusing to open internet browsers
talksr replied to talksr's topic in Windows 10
That is very interesting. I did not know this. As this is a primary school, that could make things quite tricky as for the earlier years, they tend to have one log on: year1, year 2 for all pupils to use. So this profile could be logged in simultaneously maybe 30 times. I wonder if there is any workaround for this?
