Hi I am trying to test that my backup and restore system is going to work when I need it. I am installing a new server 2008 r2 OS on a test machine with the hope of restoring the system state backup from production server to this test server. I foresee I will have trouble with a restore within the same domain, because I'd have conflicts with the actual production server that I'm testing the backups of. Is there a way to test System State restores without taking a production server offline? I can only think to restore without a network connection or on a different subnet to prevent conflicts. Is there anyone with experience of doing this that could help me out please? Thanks

Hi I was wondering what to use to view settings applied in the group policy preferences section of group policy? I read some stuff here rsop.msc and gpresult not including preferences I briefly tried GPRESULT /H rsop.html but still didn't see the group policy preferences section displayed, I will try it again though. So basically I wondered what people used to best effect ? Thanks 3s I tried this and it worked. I searched google and used this extra info: transition to ie 10 the post time stamped Wednesday, April 17, 2013 4:57 PM by Babylon78. This is what I did personally: Open up the policy, and create an IE8 Preference: User Configuration --> Preferences --> Control Panel Settings --> Internet Settings --> New --> Internet Explorer 8. Set my proxy settings. Navigate to C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\Policies was an easier route, then sort by date for the recently created IE entry. Navigate to User\Preferences\InternetSettings "Open up the "InternetSettings.xml" file, and change the MAX value to something above 10.0.0.0 (I usually put 10.5.0.0). This way, the policy won't trip up later on if IE 11 comes out and doesn't support any of these policies, but at least you'll be safe until 10.5.0, or until a hotfix is available. Hi I am having issues trying to get proxy settings to come through to Windows 8 IE 10.(amongst other things) I was reading this post : Interesting Change to Group Policy in Server 2012/Windows 8 - Group Policy Software - SDM Software | Group Policy Management & Administration Tools and it mentioned "IE Maintenance is DEAD! Long live GP Preference Internet Settings!!!" I have never used Preference Internet settings so i know anything about them. Is this better than IE maintenance? Also when i did look in the GP preference setting section i didnt have an option for IE10, is this something i can add? Could anyone shed any light here for me please Thanks a lot

we have some netbooks acer aspire one 725 with acer crystal eye webcam software on seems the webcam software as an issue with networked drives, it states "there is not enough disk space" Anyway, I need an alternative. I have used free software in past. MyCam i think it is called, but its quite glitchy Wondered if anyone has any recommendations? Thanks

Anyone know...... i get error : "WDSClient an error occured starting networking." I ran sysprep, captured image to c: drive, then copied it up manually and used add image wizard on server. I didnt use an unattend file, is this why I get that error? Thanks

I have some new netbooks that I am trying to image. One method i use is clonezilla, but I get an error saying ' /dev/sda contains GPT signatures' I have tried various ways of removing signatures: Linux/Unix: 1. Type "parted /dev/", usually "parted /dev/sda". 2. Once inside parted type "mktable": -> Table type: msdos -> Destroy data: yes -> quit 3. GPT should now be removed. also tried : # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=2 # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=512 seek=2929629465 i still cannot image these damned things. I get the same error. GPT signatures has anyone else had similair issues? Thanks

Hi, Thanks matthew@axel. Got the new firmware for the axel client updated, and then a nice easy connection to vdi-in-a-box. The results are ok for the flash acceleration, which is the reason I have had to adopt VDIAB. Still having issues with my wyse t50's. I can use the browser connection, but have issues with sound redirection to usb speakers, and also the volume is always at one setting. LOUD. I am now trying to setup the wyse t50 ICA client instead of using the browser, but again not much information or help available with the wyse t50. The axel client was a 5 minute setup! I can not really compare the flash acceleration of the 2 clients as the wyse is still using one audio level and its hard to compare the quality without going deaf. Anyone help with the Wyse? Thanks

Hi Have been having issues with multimedia esp flash over RDP. I was just about having a panic attack as i had just bought a new server etc, and I tried lots of things before I found out that I needed a helping hand from certain technologies that accelerate Flash performance. I currently have hyper-v on a server with RDP session host as a role also. I have some thinclients that cannot run Remote FX through a browser so that solution went out the window. So next one I have been trying has been citrix vdi-in-a-box which has managed to perform well. Flash and audio seem to be performing fine. My question is regarding other technologies/solutions. I am wondering whether XenDesktop is better to use, does it sit directly on hyper-v, is it more expensive? I am also wondering whether Xenserver is woth looking at? Is this like a full bare metal hypervisor? Wonder which is better solution really. I am also looking to speak to some guys called ericom who have there own little RDP client, which might just be the easiest solution to this Flash issue. And i am unsure about another technology that is linked to wyse OS, its called TCX thats meant to sort out this issue. What do you lot reckon? Thanks

Thanks for responses. story so far. Seems that its a culmination of the thinclient and the VM that is causing the poor quality of service. if i log directly into physical rdp server from a thinclient i can use audio AND video really well, youtube being my test, as i cannot install the actual old 32bit software on a 64bit machine, so basically youtube runs fine. if i log into the VM with a thick client, i.e a laptop or ipad i get decent video and audio using the user software, but neither ipad or laptop can run youtube very well on the VM. This is with minimal 'experience' settings enabled on the RDP client, e.g bitmap caching, visual styles. So the main problem seems to be with the thinclient AND the VM being used together. Any ideas how I could get the most performance out of the 2 elements? Thanks

Ye I would think its the VM, as a direct RDP to the physical server is ok, the WinXP VM is better than the WIN7 VM which is awful. Am wondering if this is a fixable issue, ie. do i increase the RAM, or is there something else that needs altering in the hyper-v manager etc Endpoints will be Axel M80 and Wyse T50

Both win7 and winXp have the setting 'High' for audio. i seem to have a PCM 16bit stereo 44khz format within the Win7 connection and the WinXp connection has PCM 16bits, stereo, 22Khz I am still getting a juttering audio stream on the Win7 connection. My only solution thus far is to use WinXP Cheers

Hi Am wondering what could be the cause for poor quality audio over rdp running on a Win 7 virtual machine. Seems that however much RAM or CPU i allocate to the virtual machine I still get the poor audio. The audio on an XP VM seems much more acceptable. Is this a know Win7 Vm issue? Thanks

Hi, Seems that the documentation part of wyse site is down. Have still not got very far with this bad product yet. I cannot get the username.ini to work in anyway and sound seems to be an issue, using a usb speaker set. Anyone help with this? Thanks.

Hi When i convert windows xp physical to virtual using vmware I seem to get away with not having to reactivate the software, but recently converted a machine to use with hyper-v and now am forced to activate, which i cannot seem to do. I have tried telephone activation, internet activation, oem key off bottom of machine, a win 7 open key. What would i need ? Do Win7 keys not supersede Xp keys? Would i need to reinstall windows on this sort of issue? or would a key from an open license (correct key) work? Thanks

hmmm DefaultBrowser = no FormURL = mypic.png AutoLogin=yes That was the entire contents of the file wlx.ini I placed these entries in just to see if it was being accessed. I was expecting changes to occur on the thinclient with these settings. Cheers
