Hi, I have this Proliant G5 E5420 server. System information says its a x86 based PC Does anyone know if it will run Server 2008 R2 64bit and i guess is there any point me looking to run R2 or should i be sticking with 32bit Server 2008 Thanks

Where can i find the education priced OS. That sounds great. Thanks. Also I have this G5 Proliant that is supposed to support 64bit or 32bit software. Would it be recommended then to move over to 2008 R2 rather than 2008 32bit. I suppose sometime i will have to upgrade the server

Well I would be running a backup onto a usb drive. It will have all the data and system state on it. No way of doing a ASR, but at least its got the data. Last time some charity came to take some donated PC's and took our server also and sent it to africa after wiping the data, so i have had a worse case scenario.... though i do like the sound of a backup DC.... money though

Thanks. I only have one server on site. I could poss bring a box from home and do the demote promote thing, but would find it easier to just upgrade

Hello, I am hoping to upgrade from server 2003 to server 2008 R2. Is this a straight forward process in anyones experience or am i going to have to create a new PDC and do all the role swapping etc I was hoping for to backup server and just run an upgrade! Am i deluded? Thanks.

Hiya, Why do I never seem to see 64bit windows? 64bit windows can utilize much more memory can it not? Why is it not widespread? All laptops we buy have 32bit. I dont know if they have 64bit capability, but it just seems weird that it has not taken over and become the standard used. I know software is an issue. Does anyone use 64bit? Is software a nightmare? Thanks.

Thanks for that. Seems I tried the package and had the same problems. I then had to try msiexec /a from the client rather than server and used mapped drive rather than UNC and it all worked. Seems my problem was that I am not very familiar with setting deployed packages up using msiexec. Thanks again.

Hello, I followed a thread on creating google earth deployment msi from group policy server 2003. Seems i STILL cant get this to deploy properly. Can anyone help please? I get error: Event ID 108 Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. Software changes could not be applied. A previous log entry with details should exist. The error was The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. Seems to point towards permissions, but it all seems ok and am thinking its the google msi... but am guessing really. My permissions are Domain Users read.... tried R/W too. Other msi's have installed thats why am not convinced its permissions. Thanks
