  1. Hello, We have some new Win7 Pro laptops I am having a few probs with... and its monday...and am tired:bowl: collins primary wouldnt work, said it needed flash. Looked on flash site, said i had version 10 installed? Weird. Then I tried another program called Hector the protector that needs flash. Got that to work on some, so flash IS installed, still collins wont work. Now on another, Flash will NOT install, go to their page, click Agree and install and it just refreshes the page. Go to Test Flash player and i get 2 dialogs pop up, Adobe flash player installer... then Adobe flash player installer... then not much happens. I am going to take one home and see if its the LEA's fault Anyone identify with this headache? Thanks
  2. Just wanted some good tutorial
  3. Hi, Anyone know which mcse covers Distributed File System? Thanks
  4. I saw a recent post that mentions that NETBIOS name is not used in server 2008 R2, this would be what I am upgrading to soon. This would leave the FQDN on all the shares if true.
  5. Thanks, Ran through the rename process a couple of times, on lab servers.... but everytime i think about proceding for real i start having anxiety in my stomach.... so maybe i wont. But maybe its all the coffee!!
  6. Hi thinking of setting up DFS. Wonder whether its better to have a domain like our-school.local cause currently its our-school.ourtownsname.sch.uk am wondering if this long domain name is going to be a hinderance in anyway, viewing shares or accessing shares when typing manually or anything Thanks
  7. Hello, Anyone ever done a domain rename? Just trying it in a lab environment. Had a few issues that i resolved but now i seem to have computer accounts in AD that have still got the old domain name.... but... they seem to log on ok and on the local machines they have the new domain name. Wondered if anyone had experience with this? Thanks
  8. hi Its ok now It was the unc path having ip address instead of hostname that was messing things up: \\10.34.56.254\flowoldeploy\flowol3.msi needed to be \\fileserver-01\flowoldeploy\flowol3.msi Thanks
  9. I thought i could use it on small network with netbios name rather than fqdn
  10. Hello, Just trying DFS out. Have created namespace etc, when mapping drives through script i have to put FQDN in:- \\lab-domain.domain.org.uk\shared_folder cannot seem to use: \\lab-domain\shared_folder Anyone encountered this Thanks
  11. I thought that. But it seems ok. How do i set up this DFS? I really like the sound of this. What route should i go down. I have freenas and i was trying to sort something like this. I also have smb shares on linux box. I just wonder about permissions Thanks
  12. It needs a new name!!! UNCIP
  13. I agree.... but i think the goalposts have been changed. 2.2.1.4 UNC Path Look at first bullet point.
  14. hi Wondered if this was a coincidence or a design feature. i tried assigning msi software in GPO if i assigned it \\10.109.45.254\flowol\flowol.msi it didint install properly. but if i used \\fileserver01\flowol\flowol.msi it worked fine I dont know why. Anyone? ta
  15. I must be doing something wrong then. What did people do for the mimics? Thats an msi too did people install as msi or put them in shared location ty
  16. Anyone installed this Flowol 3 using msi in group policy. I usually run msi's by using msiexec /a from client and stick the files in a share and create package in Gropu policy and it installs managed software. This stuff claims to be installing, but it takes like 0.5 secs and ends and nothing is on the machine afterwards. bobbins. only got 3 million pcs to do by next week Ta
  17. It isn't the things you don't know that'll kill you.... its knowing things for sure that just aint so...
  18. Give of yourself and you will be free from the bondage of self obsession. Anyway. Soon I will be embarking on the task of upgrading the 2003 server to a 2008 r2 version. Got a call today from LEA asking why i would do this. Strange. I answered that i wanted to move with the times. The guy said the system was more complicated. Maybe he meant that its got more bells and whistles. Will see.
  19. This sounds good. Hope it works on qnap 439
  20. Hi, For some autistic reason i would like my primary dc named dc1. I am running this in a lab environment but wanted to see how it went for wen/if i do it for real. I have tried netdom but get this: unable to add lab-server-dc1 as an alternate name for the computer The RPC server is unavailable (RPC is running in services though) I recently demoted dc1 after swapping roles and global catalogue. Seems to have worked after a few weird problems, like not being able to log in and not being able to demote.... but a few reboots later it seems to work. cant wait to upgrade my dc to server 2008 r2 and go through the process for real
  21. Could I ? Should I? Following on from another thread..... about changing DC server name. Can I change the ip address of DC? Thanks
  22. Could I, Should I? Rename a domain controller? I just thought that it would save changing peoples home paths to a new DC and maybe other things.
  23. ok. Reason I thought it wouldnt matter if virtual or not is if one went down you would use the other, vice versa. Hence BDC. I could understand if BOTH where on the same hardware. Thanks
  24. I would presure that I would be aiming for raid 1+0 then on the DL380. Shame I will lose lots of space, but then i will just have to move stuff about. Why is it best practice to have DC on physical machine? Thanks
  25. i have no figure. But the qnap being £800 and the server being £200, i would think something around that. Plus all the parts i have bought another £500-1000 So small budget i.e i dont think boss would appreciate me putting a 2K storage item on his desk. but if i was imperative we needed it he might go for it. But with the way we have gone on i dont know if it is imperative. :S
