I use Liberum: Home - Liberum Help Desk It's free, open source and can be setup really quickly and easily with AD integration (so users' jobs get logged by network login name, no need for them to login to the system).

This does work but can cause problems in other applications... a less desirable (but guaranteed to work universally) way to do it would be to simply lower the screen's resolution. Try the DPI settings first though, this is just a "plan B"

+1 - Steamworld Dig is great. Quite short (I think I clocked it in under 5 hours if memory serves) but good fun and I'd rather a game but short and fun than long and dull!

I think this is a wider problem with exams in general. I generally don't do all that well at exams, as I find it difficult to relate the perfect scenarios they put forth to real life. I also am yet to do a job under strict instruction to sit in silence and not use any sort of reference material to complete the task at hand - it's just totally unrealistic. What exactly is wrong with introducing coding in to the curriculum?

I found that in the first series particularly, it got to be really uneasy watching as you could totally see where they were coming from, but my $deity what a way to handle it! Ad yet, how else could you? Love a program that makes you question yourself. Unfortunately, Channel 4 obviously think we'd rather watch people getting drunk, stuffing their faces and farting while they watch the same drivel the rest of us are forced to watch all week.

I read an OFSTED document that talked about the "Data War room" so we employed the idea here - I produce A6 cards for each student with their photo, their targets, their estimates and any key data (3LOP En/Ma for instance). We then put these on to the staff room wall on a display board which has been split in to the following categories: 5+ A*-C including English & Maths 3+ A*-C + English (not Maths) 3+ A*-C + Maths (not English) 3+ A*-C (no English or Maths) A*-C English (no Maths, no 'Other 3') A*-C Maths (no English, no 'Other 3') <3 A*-C, no English or Maths Laying them out like this mean different departments can quickly zone in on their own focus groups, i.e. Maths HoD can look at those students who only need Maths to get their 5 A* - C in English and Maths.

I wonder if they'll continue to give free licenses for Pro edition to students? Looks like this covers everything anyway, I just wonder what "designed and optimized for individual developers, students, open source contributors, and small teams" equates to in terms of differences...

Unfortunately it's not open source, but it's description does give a clue as to it's inner workings - it seems it simply sends a standard Windows message to the window's queue asking it to resize. As many programs won't have overridden this message, it'll do as it's told. If that action could be scripted, then you'd be getting somewhere... Can't promise anything, but this sounds like an interesting challenge - I'll see if I can come up with something over the weekend

Went to a mini-conference yesterday about FFT Aspire - the speaker reckoned we'd be waiting until Christmas for it! @tombry - the slider lets you set the FFT benchmark, where 50 is top 50th percentile (i.e. national average), so 5 would be top 5th percentile. So the grades you see as suggested targets are what students with similar PA, same gender and month of birth achieved if they performed within that percentile nationally. There's also a toggle switch near the top to enable CVA, but the general advice is to use this FYI only as OFSTED will likely think you're trying to make excuses if you use CVA based figures (unless you're from an affluent area, where of course CVA will actually raise expected attainment rather than lower it)

The first thing that comes to mind; have you added colour coding retrospectively? If so, is the grade column marked read only or it's associated result set locked? That's caught me out a couple of times because the column still gets coloured in but the colour is not saved so it doesn't pull through to reports.

I might be totally wrong here, but it's my understanding that devices that show up as "Portable Devices" are effectively sharing their file system via a device defined interface - some will even transcode video when it's transferred over to them to make it compatible with the device. This also gives devices the option of opening up other features to attached devices, such as controlling playback on the device from a secondary device. It's this added layer of obscurity between the two that causes Office problems I think, it needs access to the "raw" file. In short, I don't think there's a way around it other than what you've already done i.e. copying the file to a "normal" drive. In my mind, it's the difference between viewing an image on a webpage and downloading it to your machine; you can still see the image either way, but to do anything else with it, your machine needs a local copy* * let's just ignore caching for the sake of example EDIT: probably a more accurate way to describe it: a portable device is not a file system, but a server. You can request files from this server and it will send them to you. This removes the need to worry about the underlying file system of the device; you just get the files you asked for.

I think it's unlikely to have hit the OS itself (though you should still have antivirus installed - never buy in to the carp that any OS is immune!) so I'd be checking what plugins/add-ons/extensions have been installed in Chrome itself.

It depends how much access they need/want. All permissions for AM7 are under "Core System > Assessment Manager" You need to decide whether to give them "Edit (Own)"; they can create the related items and edit those that they have created; or "Edit (all)"; they can edit any related item. For simply creating marksheets (that is, adding them to templates) - look under "Templates" folder. If they'll need to create Aspects to go with them, also look under the "Aspects" folder. If they're creating aspects, they may also need to create Gradesets - you know where this is going! Unfortunately, Gradesets doesn't have an Own/All option, not sure why. Means they either have access to everything or nothing where they're concerned. Best thing to do is sit down with them and whoever usually sets up your marksheets, as they'll be able to give you an idea how much access they'll need to be able to do what they want to. I definitely would not give them access to everything unless absolutely necessary - one member of SLT "playing" with a template can really ruin your Data Manager's week!

I'm liking the look of those Kingston HyperX... When you say Turtle Beach, is there a particular model? I hear people rave about them all the time, but I bought a pair for X360 a few years ago and they were agonizingly uncomfortable for even short term use (couldn't take more than 30 minutes before my ears were on fire, padding was awful on them) so I've been kind of put off them... @LeMarchand - they are very cool looking and seem very functional too, however I do have rather a large head so usually need to adjust any headphones I buy - thanks for the suggestion though

So, Christmas is coming and I've started to put my list together for Santa* and one thing I'd like this year is a headset for the PC. I'm not too fussy whether it's wired/wireless, though if it is wireless than I'd prefer it to have replaceable batteries. It has to be able to carry full audio, not just voice-chat, as I primarily play with headphones on (I think all PC headsets do this, but I know console ones generally don't so thought I'd point it out) Audio quality is much more important than cosmetics to me. Any suggestions? * please don't tell my other half I called her that

Mixxx is open source and can be scripted to take almost any controller (I recently had some success using a DJ Hero controller for Xbox connected to the PC ) Mixxx - Free MP3 DJ Mixing Software As for good speakers - £50 isn't a lot of money for speakers, if you're serious about mixing new music you'll want some monitors ideally. When you say "fire", it simulates a key press of your choice i.e. does whatever you want it to. Come on Sunny, that's basic macro knowledge mate! Depending how in-depth Elite is (I've not played it yet, have a pre-order though thanks to Kickstarter), voice control could be very useful for things like switching primary/secondary weapons mid dog fight...
