I think the idea of a poster for key features benefits is the route I'm going to take. Like you say, nobody wants to plough through a 10 page instruction manual when you can have lots of pretty pictures :-)

Same for us with Orchid, box shifters essentially, but decent pricing, nothing wrong with delivery and the salesman was fine. One company I'd recommend you have a chat with is Ergo based in Nottingham. They provided all our kit for when we went fully virtualised. Very good all round (pricing, after sales, delivery, quality etc).

Afternoon all, Has anyone ever written a Website User Guide to guide parents through how to use the school website? We've just been asked to produce such a document and I'm not really sure where to begin as our website is fairly obvious, in that Information is available (believe it or not) under the information drop down for example :-( Thanks in advance Iain

Just tried it on one of our laptops, login time reduced from 10-15 minutes (yes it was that bad!) to under a minute! If I could thank you a 100 times for this then I would :-)

Good afternoon Sharepoint Lovers :-) Two things I'm trying to achieve now.... firstly, I want to hide the home tab and search bar from the top navigation pane. Secondly, I want to hide the quicklaunch from all pages within my site (to give you the scenario on this, I've got the quick launch hidden on the main site home page, however when you open up the new item form the quick launch is displayed again). Any advice you can give will be gratefully received as always :-)

thanks synack, I did read throguh your post and hadn't made any progress. Using the command you posted it does look more promising though. It does now tell me that I'm licensed and it's recognised that I've got a few machines waiting to be activated.

We did try to use this for drive mapping when we put vista in a few years ago, but it wasn't reliable. Not really tried it with 7 yet though, so definitely worth a try.

We're Windows 7 across the board, thanks for that though I'll take a look and see if that will work.

Hi all, sukh, apologies for not being clear. Our colleges are more like a traditional "House" system, they aren't physical buildings. All our staff are based on the one site. ect, I don't suppose I can be cheeky and ask you to post the contents of the script you run?

Afternoon all, Starting to have a play with Office 2010 ready for deployment later this year. Having problems though with the KMS. Running KMS on Server 2008r2 on a box which was already the KMS for our Windows 7 licensing which was running perfectly fine for this purpose. I've installed the KMS host as downloaded from microsoft for Office 2010, however when I run cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv all in a cmd prompt it's telling me that "This license is not in use" "License Status: Unlicensed" and as a result my Office 2010 installations are not activating. I've followed the steps as outlined by Microsoft, installing the host, giving it the KMS key, activating it online (I've also done the activation on the phone as well just in case), so I'm not sure where I'm going wrong :-( Anyone seen this before?

Afternoon all, I'm trying to restrict printing to some of our printers. Just to give you the full situation, our school is split into 5 colleges and each college has its own designated IT Suite each with its own mono laser printer which is monitored by PCounter. All network printers in school are deployed through Group Policy, and in theory the only PC's which can print to each printer are those which have been allocated it. Unfortunately this isn't the case, roaming profiles (for staff) are storing printer mappings and as such staff are printing all over the school to printers in other colleges which is costing the other college's money for toner etc (I know some staff are doing this on purpose!). What I'm trying to achieve, as a result, is to properly restrict which PC's can print to each printer. I had hoped to achieve this by editing the security settings on each printer, however if I put in here the pc names of those that I want to be able to print to it, it stops all users from printing until I add the users back in. Is there a way in which I can achieve what I'm trying to do? Any help anyone can provide will be gratefully received.

I'm sure our business manager will be delighted at this, guess what route we went down about 2 1/2 years ago (just before I arrived I'd hasten to add) :-) Sadly though the school are incredibly keen on our PE department doing wireless registers....wonder where we're going to find the money to buy ipod touches/ ipads from as well as new software?

We renewed our contract with Sophos about 18 months ago, however prior to contacting them we spoke to several other companies (NOD32 especially). Once Sophos knew we'd been looking at other solutions their price came down massively! Well worth tryign as certainly 18 months ago they seemed pretty desperate for business.

Brilliant, thanks for your post. I've worked out what was wrong now, and have managed to get it to display item level permissions on a new list I've just created.....oh well need to do some redesigning of my site now :-(

Hi Sukh, thanks for that. Unfortunately the video you posted relates to Document Libraries (which don't have item level permissions available out of the box) whereas I'm trying to fathom out why I can't set these permissions on a list (something which should be available out of the box). In addition, I'm also trying to work out a way to redirect users when they submit a form. On clicking the submit button they are sent to the main list view, whereas I'd like to have them redirected back to the homepage of the site? Hope this makes sense, any help anyone can provide will be gratefully received as always. Iain

Still trying to get my head round this. I'm trying to set Item Level Permissions in Sharepoint 2010 using this method, but when I access the area, I do not see anything relating to item level permissions (see attached screenshot, apologies for the size)....am I doing something really thick? Do I need to install an add in or something?

Afternoon all, I'm currently in the process of reviewing where we buy our print consumables from and have come across a few companies that I know very little about in terms of the consumables that they provide. The companies in question are... IJT (the pricing on these are outrageously cheap, so cheap I smell a rat) XMA Alphatec IDN (Had a good review from a local secondary, but would appreciate further views) Does anyone use any of these companies for toner etc? Have you had any bad experiences with any of these? Any recommendations you can make (with the listed companies ro anyone else that you may use)? Obviously I've checked the forums beforehand, but there doesn't seem to be much recent information available (there's nothing for Alphatec whatsoever), so could do with up to date views and opinions. We currently use cartridge world in the main, however their pricing isn't the most competitive (although I am waiting on new pricing to come through which i hope is better). Thanks in advance Iain

Hi there, We were a Viglen school for about the first 8-9 months I worked at my current school. In truth, I wasn't a fan, I found it very restrictive (having come from a Vanilla Windows background). Thankfully, for me at least, we were given the funds to do a very major update and although we looked at upgrading with Viglen, the decision was made to move to a Vanilla Windows Environment and I haven't regretted it for a second.

I'm so glad to hear this given the number of the Acer X110 projectors we've bought recently! :-)

Forget my previous post on this, I've managed to work through that problem :-) Back to my list of other items to sort on my site
