Hi, I've lost connection to Bradford Learning and several other services hosted on Telewest a couple of times throughout today. Often drops for a few minutes and then comes back, was an extended 40 minutes one yesterday. Think someone's missing 50p's in the meter.

If by through you mean the traffic travelling across it causing load/bandwidth then OneLAN will be fine as the connections from the onelan box to the screens are direct you'd just have a single connection to the network for the administrator to use.

If I'm an ISP and I ONLY allow outbound SMTP access to my SMTP server I can control exactly what's going out so anybody infected with mailers etc will show up quickly. Most malware uses a 'known' smtp server either a listed open relay, or the one configured on the users outbound mail client so it can't be tracked back to John Smith running his own spam mail server on port 12345. I've yet to see an RBC allow direct outbound SMTP access to anywhere other than their own boxes for this reason.

Chances are if they're blocking it you will be able to use their provided one on port25. Or yes, you could enable smtp on an alternate port.

Could be cached DNS looking up an old MX for them if they've recently changed providers.

Yep, same problem for me, I'd tested using the apps which worked for you. It's in reality a lot simpler, as long as they have java all is well and fine.

It's probably better if you ask them to do this for you especially if they're providing with you with ongoing support. (In short though, it's not difficult to implement from the Solaris end)

I've just tried it and they opened OK for me but I'm on an unfiltered connection. Default installations use a port TCP 5307 for secure transactions but it is possible to configure traversal over TCP 443 which works for most people quite well.

Pop in whatever you're using for your cron less the time indicators (the */5 and *'s) In my case: wget -q -O /dev/null my moodle login demo database at mymoodle.com

Worth checking your logs then fella, by default in /var/log/apache2/ to see if its hitting it. If not, run the command manually from the shell and check if the log shows it hitting and we can look at why/if Cron is playing up.

Check your access logs to see if it is working but isn't sending you a mail (for whatever reason). My crontab looks as follows: */5 * * * * wget -q -O /dev/null http://www.mymoodle.com/admin/cron.php What does yours look like?
