Does this work on Chromebooks without Google Play Store?

Hi all, We have a bunch of Chromebooks that we're currently using in a pilot trial and the teacher wants to use them to film videos and then use basic video editing to create a final movie. It was my intention to use Adobe Spark to do the basic editing but I've run into a problem where the videos that are taken on the Chromebook are in mkv format, which Adobe Spark does not support. I need some way of converting to mp4 format but I'd prefer not to use some random online conversion website if possible. Does anyone know of a decent Chrome extension that can do this locally, or some other way of handling this issue? I'm reluctant to enable Google Play store/Android apps on the Chromebooks due the various issues that this can cause, so this would be a last resort solution.

We have a Sophos UTM and overall, it's been a good, solid product for the last 5 or so years that we've been using it. In terms of hardware, we've had to return it a couple of times in that period, both because of faulty PSUs. The software feature set is pretty comprehensive and covers nearly all what we need, although development has slowed recently, as they push towards XG. We're looking at migrating over to XG in the next few months, so I would look at that to be honest if you're considering Sophos.

Our policy is to block all "unapproved" USB sticks/disks, which we manage via Netsupport DNA and Bitlocker. Anyone wanting to use a USB device must bring it to us for encryption and after that, we allow it for use.

I think Prowise (certainly v9) can import Smart Notebook files. I'm not sure of how well it converts them but might be worth a try.

I could be wrong here but I'm not sure that Group Policy can block unencrypted USB drives completely, although it can prevent write access to unencrypted drives, with the following setting: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Bitlocker Drive Encryption > Removable Data Drives We use Netsupport DNA to manage our USB drives, so that only approved ones can be used.

Blocked for all except 6th form. Evaluating use of Gsuite/forcing moderate mode going forward.

Hi all, We have some Chromebooks that we use in a classroom environment. We use Azure AD to log them on which works fine. We have 2 SSIDs configured, the first one being "per device", which is secured via a PSK and is used to allow the user to get to the login splash screen. We then have another SSID that is configured using 802.1x and is per user. I think I'm right in thinking that once logged in, the Chromebook should automatically switch over to the more secure network (the 802.1x) and in the majority of cases it does but for some Chromebooks, it doesn't seem to automatically do it, leaving the teacher to manually switch over from the locked down device SSID. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Thanks in advance.

I put a post on here about ManageEngine MDM, some time ago. They do a free edition for 25 devices but you can can up to 75 free using their invite scheme.
