Copy and keep in sync one windows share to another
mdrabble replied to tj2419's topic in How do you do....it?
+1 for Mikkydoos way - i did the exact same thing move files from an old 2008 (32bit) server to a new 2019 server. -
Will be starting to install some new APs next year and wondered how do people name their APs? Currently our APs are named by location only, but someone suggested possibly naming them by location/switch Cheers

I've just purchased 50 x Unifi Nano HD APs to replace my Meraki kit which the licensing it due to expire in June and with the issues of Meraki and Smoothwall when it come to roaming clients I didn't want to renew the Meraki kit. Yes, the Unifi controller doesn't give you the same details as the Meraki dashboard, but I also purchased the Unifi Security Gateway so I can do Deep Packet Inspections to see what traffic is on the wireless. I have also made the move from 4 SSID down to 2 SSIDs (1 for all users using Radius assigned VLANS) and 1 for Guests using the Guest Portal. Yes the level of support may not be the same on Unifi when compared to Meraki but as I have only used Meraki support twice (both times for roaming issues - which they said it isn't down to them - so not much help or use!) I've not needed the support. In total, i have saved approx £2,500 - £3,000.

Same - after spending what seemed an age looking through their "help" section I eventually found how a non-instagram user can report profiles.I reported the profile as bullying and possible safeguarding concerns and instagram took he profile down within the hour.

Interestingly I just had a couple of quotes for the UniFi nanoHD Access Points and on the bottom of one of the quotes it mentioned about pricing may change depending on tomorrows vote! As the vote has been delayed, do I order now or wait until nearer the time I actually need to order them? Was planning to purchase and deploy during the Easter break.

@ICTDirect_Dave can you PM me specs and pricing please. Cheers
-
What sort of spec are they?, Can you PM me details and prices please

I was planning to install Server 2012 with HyperV in a cluster config and test replication of VMs and then test in place OS upgrades on the hosts to Server 2019 Will then be using those servers as a area to test my DR plan and also play with SIMS migration to a new server and other fun things.

I'm currently going through the same process - our Meraki kit is 5 years old and the licenses expire in June and also because I have Smoothwall, Meraki and Smoothwall do not play nicely when clients roam! I purchases a couple of Unifi AP AC Pros, spun up a VM to run the Controller and so far it is looking promising. The Unifi controller is missing some features compared to the Meraki Dashboard but I can live with that. Some of the Unifi Controller features require a Security Gateway or a Unifi Switch but you can use the APs and Controller quite happily without these extras.

I have a number of spare VeryPC 1U servers which are noisy and was planning to use them, but having looked at the price of the Sound Proof racks, it would be cheaper to buy some refurb servers and a normal 12U rack.
-
I'm looking for recommendations for Sound Proof 12U Server Rack. Thinking of building a small test environment with a couple of servers, nas box etc which will be located in my office as I want easy physical access and be safe in the knowledge that i can test and unplug things it wont affect the anything int the server room. Cheers

This looks like it would do the job - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/devtest/devcon and then use a logon script to disable/enable
-
Was looking to use some of the features on the Unifi Controlller which require USG and if it would have any issues working alongside smoothwall.

Script to change display scale for specific users?
mdrabble replied to Sheridan's topic in How do you do....it?
There use to be an .exe called SetRes where you could set the resolution - no idea if it works with Windows 10 tho. -
For those who use Unif APs and Smoothwall - do you have/use the Unifi Security Gateway as well?
-
Decided to stick with the current solution which is Radius Authentication and to avoid the guest portal altogether for users. Will only be using the Guest Portal for visitors and they will be using Voucher Codes.
-
I sent mine for recycling as I knew trying to sell them would be difficult especially with the price of the Unifi switches.
-
Sorted the Radius bits bits out - forgot to add the unifi controller to the list of radius clients It is a shame I cannot have different guest portals for student and guest ssid.
-
For those people using vouchers and smoothwall, how do you handle https inspections for guests? Currently I have it set to redirect to a MITM page so they can install the smoothwall cert.
-
@caffrey perfect, will take a proper look on Monday

Just playing with a couple of Unifi APs and the Controller software and so far so good! Like the management interface very much and I am now having a play with the guest portal and have a couple of questions for Unifi users. 1. Vouchers Using Smoothwall - How have you got smoothwall configured? 2. Radius Logons I have a Windows NPS Server which works fine with merkai. I have added the Unifi bits to the radius clients list, but the portal giving wrong username/password. Anyone using Radius Logons with the portal? Cheers
-
I was thinking more for the guest portal, - have left off the https options within the portal and that seems to work fine, so think I will leave as it.
-
I'm currently installing a Unifi Controller so I can test a couple of Unifi APs with the guest portal etc. Since the Sever is internal and uses https, I need a SSL cert, so I thought I would use Let's Encrypt. I have managed to get a SSL manually using the DNS challange, but this will need redoing manually before the 90 renewal time. Has anyone use uses Lets Encrypt managed to get renewals automatically using the DNS challenge - or alternatively, can you let me know how you do SSL internally using certificates. Cheers

How does your establishment handle printing and charging?
mdrabble replied to Olliesaurus's topic in How do you do....it?
We use PaperCut - using AD Groups for Staff and charged against departments for printing and copying. I run automated reports at the end of each month which go to head of department and finance for charge backs and so Heads of Department can see where their budgets are going. Printing for departments is subsidised which means they pay just less than 1p per sheet of A4 (0.008p) (which I think is wrong but I just do as I am told!) All students get 50p per week - Student printing covered by the school. - Student have their own papercut 6 figure ID code to release their own jobs. If student require extra they can pay whatever amount they they want adding. (this tends to be sixth students printing mock exam papers at revision times) -
Do you use smoothwall? If Yes then I would suggest you avoid Meraki as there are known issues with roaming. Not used Ruckus for over 5 years but was good kit. And as DalekSec said- why not Unif?i I heard some good things about them - I am going to be looking at Unifi very shortly as our Meraki license expires in June.
