DirSync doesn't cost anything. I don't recall ever explicitly having to do anything with Azure to be honest. Everything was done in the background automatically. Only time I interacted with it was indirectly when using PowerShell to assign the licenses to the users. Brief run down of how we set our O365 up... * Created our O365 tenant \ account * Added domain and validated it * Installed dir sync and sync'd our students * Activated ProPlus licenses on the O365 tenant (you can "buy" the free student licenses right on O365 if you want to but they don't have as much functionality) * Used power shell to assign the licenses to the users and enable them. I don't know about the LEA side of things. I'm not sure what control you do or don't have. But for what it's worth we have it installed on a member server here and the installation was fairly simple. Think we just pointed it at a domain controller, logged in with our O365 admin credentials and were well away. Only bit of configuring is selecting which OUs you want it to sync the users from. We use DIRSYNC instead of ADFS. It's a lot easier to get set up only instead of being a direct link what happens is every two hours it syncs our students (we select which OUs we want to sync) with O365 and updates the password online so they just log in with their usual school e-mail address..

Always heard best practice was to keep them separate which is what I've done on the three installations of SCCM I've done in the past. Looking to migrate to Server 2012 and SCCM 2012 r2 and wondering if it's really a necessity to keep them on separate servers or not.

Yes exactly right. Realised as soon as I went into Sync Service Manager and noticed only select OUs had been selected to sync what the issue was! Nice to see we both came to the same conclusion

Hi All, Is there a way to create security groups in Office 365? Originally we've only been using it for ProPlus for students so they can install Office at home and various other bits and bobs but now MS have released ProPlus for staff we want to start using that as well and having security groups to separate staff \ students would make allocating the licenses a bit easier. Anyone have any good guides? Only ones I can find are for mail distribution groups and creating them by hand. Would love to have groups based on those in our AD to make life easier.

Next year we're going to require a class of students to have access to a webserver to do some webdev work. Specifically... * PHP * MySQL * FTP (possibly to upload work to) Is there a quick and easy way to provision 30 accounts for FTP \ MySQL and setting up folders etc without having to create them all by hand?

Have you tried disabling \ enabling cached mode on a few test users to see if that makes a difference? Do the e-mails show in Outlook Web Access?

Are there any downsides to migrating from SATA to SSD over a clean install?

With Google Sites being HTTPS now the filter can't see anything beyond the https://sites.google.com unless you use some kind of "man in the middle" functionality.

Thanks for the response. All of a sudden today no students can get on youtube. Getting an error saying the connection was "interrupted". Any ideas? Tried the live support and can't get through. Wondering if there were any issues today?

Same issue. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Very frustrating.

Same here. Last e-mail I have from POP is dated 26th September.

I don't bother applying the upgrades until a few days before the tests. We only run them every so often and seems pointless doing them as soon as they come out just to end up probably having to upgrade again just before running the tests anyway.

As long as they have access to a browser so they can access PHPMYADMIN on the webserver (this is installed by default and will let them play with MYSQL) and also share out the HTDOCS folder so they can create their own folders to copy in whatever PHP files they've created so far then they should be good to go. They shouldn't need direct access to the server itself. I've set this up here with XAMMP on Server 2012 so any questions feel free to ask.

Like Ben says it's because they've recently made google sites secure across the board so you can block site.google.com and end up blocking everything under it or nothing. Also worth nothing it's not just a lightspeed issue. I think all filters will have the same issue with the change. One solution is that you can create a PAC file to force google traffic to go through lightspeed as a proxy. A few pieces of software we can't install silently so looking to try creating some MSIs form them. Does anyone have any recommendation on MSI creation software at all and best practices? I know there are a lot of different tools out there but is there a definitive "best" one at the moment?

Unfortunately not that (i think). This is purely for BYOD so manually putting certificates on the end user devices isn't viable. We've had this set up for a while now and only recently has it started playing up. It's been working fine authenticating based on which groups the computer \ user are a member of in AD. Also doesn't answer why windows 8 is fine but not 7? I'm wondering if Rule 1 is conflicting with the others but doubt it. When signing in on iPad or other device you do get a certificate error (which you can bypass - obviously why non windows machines still connect) but it's not for the user or the device but the one it's received from the actual server and I'm unsure why as all certificates on the server are valid and haven't expired.
