  1. been following this thread. Who got the job then?
  2. We run a terminal services setup here and I have tried AUP Informant on the terminal servers, it seems to run per machine as opposed to per user. e.g user 1 logs onto ts003, he gets policy and is taking bhis time reading it. User 2 and 3also log onto ts003, no policy until user 1 presses accept and user 2 would then have to log off to enable him to get policy. So my question: Has anyone else got this working on a terminal server environment, if so how? thanks for your time bart21
  3. hi we are looking to upgrade some teacher laptops to win7. I have been playing with it and all ok except.... I cant get sync to work. I right click on their home drive and select always available, then it shows on the bottom 'bar' in computer as available on line and available off line. I give it an hour to sync, although it was not obviously doing anything! I then pull network cable out and all folders in users my docs are greyed out except fot two. If i click on a greyed one it says something similar to access denied. The non greyed out ones areworking fine. Has anyone got this working? How? whats going on with my laptops? cheers nick
  4. hi We are implementing windows 7 on teacher laptops over the summer. Most of the bits are ok however i need help on some if you would be so kind. 1) How does file syncronisation work on win 7. It does not seem to visibly sync at logoff. 2) How do i put the school logo in the 'frame' on the login page. 3) is there any way of setting the adjust for best performance option for the whole computer or via group policy instead of per profile. 4) Finaly! How can i restrict access to the desktop to prevent people saving stuff there? i have the setting for disallow use of the desktop set. however if i go into word and try to save as i can still save into the desktop folder! thanks for your help nick
  5. we use the 'free version' thats why we have the 'disclaimer added by code two...' on the bottom. The only difference in paid version is that. nick

  7. Code 2 exchange rules will do this for you. You design the template and it adds it to all emails. You do not see it when typing the email but when you hit send it will add it. Itb will pull AD stuff to. See example attached.

  11. we use sunray 2 thin clients with terminal services as opposed to VDI. We have found this solution to be much better.
  12. hi our fog server was working ok with everything including multicast. We had fog running on an old dc7800 usdt. So i reloaded ubuntu onto server hardware and reinstalled fog 0.28. (using the same mysql database and image folder so as not to lose any settings) I then tested the download and uploading of images to ensure they worked and they did. (i did not test multicast at this time). I then upgraded for to version 0.29 and tested download works and upload works but when multicasting we sit on the blue please wait screen. Does anyone have any ideas? (Also, slightly off the multicast topic, since the upgrade when i deploy an image to a client the hostname changer and the domain join works but i get an annoying popup saying the clientis unable to register with the server. Does the client need upgrading for the new version and how do I do this please?) thanks nick
  13. hi I did this 2 weeks ago, we got it up and running on the new server during school hours then restored a backup/changed dns after hours, all in all half a day. If you need more help please email or pm me. we started by installing sql onto the server (we were moving our sql server aswell, however even if you are using the same sql server as the current setup i would start with a new DB, just easier) Use the serco guide to create the DB then install facility plus other modules if you have them (doc storage etc), create your new connection dsn and cdb file, let it crete tables and then restore the backup. Now go through facility master config and copy over/change the relevant locations (student photos etc) set up IIS and install eportal configure eportal finally OOH do another data backup/restore and copy the folders over again to check data is upto date, and copy your client files over to users.

  16. thanks for that kim have tried gpupdate /force, what does replmon do?
  17. hi we have a diar situation. we had a complete power outage over easter and all servers went down as the ups gaveout! Now the kids have come back we have realised that most of the gpo settings do not apply. for instance we force classic staff menu, restrict control panel etc. None of this is working, the students have access to everything. The staff ones seem to be ok. Not 100% sure. My thoughts were if the sysvol folder was replicating when the power died could it have corrupted gp. Any other ideas/fixes. Thanks
  18. hi tom, thanks for your response. Yes that is sort of the idea. All workstations will go through the county filter/firewall. This squid box was to enable the servers (especially the ubuntu ones) to get out to a non-filtered web connection for updates etc. As i said we used to use ISA server but county have now told us we have to remove it and use their filtering/firewall. Basically there is only two ipaddresses that can get out through the router, these are the county filter address and our 10.46.209.4 address. The squid has that address assigned to it and other machines use it as a gateway to get out. The solution needs to be free and preferably run on ubuntu server. (we have no money at all, we actually overspent) I hope this makes sense as i have written it in quite a hurry. Thankyou for your help. nick
  19. hi we have just started using our county proxy for staff and students, however we have one open ipaddress for server updates, so this ipaddress has to have a proxy. We used to have an ISA server which we have now removed. i have put a squid box in, and i can get out to the internet with a browser. but cant ping thgrough it or lookup dns through it. Anyone know how to enable the relevant ports for these? thanks nick
  20. hi sorry i took so long to get back to everyone, i did have this one sorted, then it fellover again today. To originally sort it i had to recreate the system mailbox{GUID}. This then made all the 'QUEUES' connect and show the green tick. Then today the 'messages awaiting directory lookup' queue will not connect, all the rest including the SMTP internet mail connector (to countys relay) is connected. The system mailbox is still present and have rebooted many times. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong thank you nick
  21. hi we have an ex 2003 server it was really slow yesterday so NM restarted it, since then the 'local messages waiting for directory lookup' will not stay active. and the messages keep stacking up. anyone any idea as to waht could be wrong, we dont really want to have to replace the server if we dont need to thanks nick

Disk keeper professional, we have it as an msi deployed via group poliocy. It can be set to defrag when screensaver is on and stops when user moves mouse
  23. thanks for that maniac, can you give me the steps to do that in IAS please (we do use IAS)
  24. hi is there any way of denying apple products as listed above on to the wireless network. the kids keep connecting with them and it then disconnects the teacher laptops in that area. the network is secured with peap authenticated on a radius server, but they just use their domain login name to get on. i haad thought of certificate security but know little about this. is there any easy way to ban the mac address? i dont really want to have to type it into every ap as we have nearly 50 Does anyone else have this problem? thanks nick
  25. hi at the previous place where i worked we had a wireless network with an ias server doing wireless authentication. it was setup so that when the user logged on with a domain user account they could access wireless, with a local account they could not. (i believe) I am now trying to replicate this setup at another site, but have never set it up before. All i know is it used IAS and cert services, and i imagine some way to deploy certs based on user account (GP?) my question is does anyone know how to set this up and could they provide me with the steps to go through? I know this is quite tricky as the NM who set it up at the last place spent two weeks doing it!! thanks in advance bart
