  1. My understanding was that the Linksys Device had a FXO and a FXS port.... so you can do both Linksys by Cisco SPA3102 VoIP Broadband Router with 1 FXS and 1 x FXO Port
  2. Linksys do one of these.... Kyle
  3. Ordered a netgear 802.11a jobo.. hopefully wont cause interface with other kit. Thanks guys.

  5. We've got a sort of unmanaged 3com setup for Teacher laptops. It can't handle the throughput of 15 laptops and we're looking for a quick solution.
  6. Can anybody recommend a single AP for use on a trolley? It'll have to cope with the power being knocked on and off and that sorta thing, but will need to sustain 15ish laptops... Thanks Kyle
  7. By saying that the netbooks are taking up nearly 5 hours of the day and saying you only want to hire them for 5 hours ... you probablay cant delegate anything else. I imagine you'd need to hire them for 9-3 with an hours lunch or something.
  8. Does anyone here have any examples of documentation they've produced to be 'left behind' when leaving? I need to produce something along those lines for my eventual replacement. Thanks Kyle
  9. It really might be time to consider buying School Guardian you know.. we've just traded in School Guardian for a Network Guardian UTM.... we await it with baited breath. Kyle
  10. I went with that view on the basis that getting a second external IP from some RBCs can be a pig...
  11. We're doing this with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Express and OpenVPN to a 2k3 server in a data centre.
  12. Witch.. what I would suggest you do is this: I presume you have more than one dns hostname.. website would be http://www.schoolname.county.sch.uk and moodle would be moodle.schoolname.county.sch.uk - if this isnt the case, and moodle is usually accessed at http://www.schoolname.county.sch.uk:81 [same DNS as the website], you will need to get an additional dns host added [probably at the LEA]. Since one of the earlier release of the HTTP specification, you can redirect based on hostname - ie: moodle.schetc and http://www.schetc can be directed to different places despite being on the same ip and port. What I would suggest is that you move Apache onto port 80, and IIS onto 81. You can then configure apache to 'proxy' any requests sent to http://www.schetc across to IIS and handle moodle itself. You can add lines similar to this to Apache: ServerName http://www.schetc ErrorLog logs/error_log CustomLog logs/access_log common ProxyRequests Off ProxyPass / http://localhost:81/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:81/ ServerName moodle.schetc ErrorLog logs/moodle.schetc_error_log CustomLog logs/moodle.schetc_access_log common DocumentRoot c:\path\to\moodle A good time to do this would be as part of your server changeover. 13. You can also try Silverlake Garage at Botley (Just outside Hedge End, Southampton). Welcome to Silverlake Garage
  14. Can you just hire a splice kit? You'd need to be doing fibre every other day to make it viable to have training/certs/tools etc
  15. Are any fellow edugeekers heading up to Stonehenge this weekend for the Summer Solstice?
  16. Your original post implies you will be self employed and paid via an invoice, rather than on the payroll [if you're not sure, make sure you check this]. Payed by invoice throws up a number of taxation issues. Also, it's worth noting that you wont be insured as a self employee, that is you won't be covered by the school/LA's employee's liability or public liability cover - ie - if you ran a cable and somebody tripped you would be held personally liable for the injuries. You will need to see alternative insurance [probably professional indemnity and public liability] Kyle
  17. Just a quick poll really - who gives admin rights to staff on their personally allocated desktops/laptops - and any thoughts about the reasons for and against doing so?
  18. PGP Whole Disk Encryption - Comprehensive Hard Drive Encryption for PCs, Laptops and Removable Media - it's not cheap though (£119)
  19. We've got the same as Gatt since Easter. We had some minor issues (due to our crummy timescales) but they did go above and beyond to sort it out. It seems to be ok.
  20. I Remember sitting on a re-cladding meeting a few years ago... a three hour conversation about wether or not the doors significantly contrasted enough with the walls to meet DDA..... Kyle
