Hey guys, Got Dansguardian/Squid authenticating to AD just fine but now I've got a problem with MS Office asking for domain credentials every time it's started now, putting in the correct credentials don't do anything, it just keeps prompting for them for every internet site it connects to. Anyone know how I can stop this? We're running Office 2013 and I don't really want to turn off Internet access for it in the Office settings... Perhaps it's something to do with DG/Squid? I'm not too sure. We're using Endian Firewall. Thanks

Went from Netgear WAG102 APs to UniFis and my god they're good. All our wireless speed issues have been fixed around high density areas (netbook/iPad trolleys) and it's far too easy to configure them once the initial controller config is done, plug a UniFi AP in, go to the controller and accept it, the controller goes off and does the rest. I didn't like the idea of using the stupid little PoE injectors so I went for their TOUGHswitch, which is just as nice a product. Also can confirm the controller runs on 2008R2 and survives an upgrade to 2012.

Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone knows how to specify a default domain name if one isn't specified already in the username field for Squid when using NTLM auth? It works if I use "DOMAIN\username" but not if I just use "username". I'm using Windows Authentication on IPCop. Thanks

Hi Guys, Not a huge deal but was hoping for some input... I just installed and setup Dirsync between our AD and Office365 accounts (not keen on setting up ADFS since I can't set it up in a redundant way) and it's working beautifully for the accounts we've already created in O365, the only problem is that our onsite AD usernames are first initial surname (e.g. JBloggs) and our email addresses are [email protected]. Is there anyway I can keep our current AD usernames but make Dirsync use the first.last e-mail format? This also breaks automatic login with MS Outlook when setting up accounts etc. As I say, not a huge deal really but I'd like to fix it without renaming all our AD accounts. Right now if I make a new user in AD it is created automatically in O365 as [email protected], rather than joe.bloggs@schoolk. Many thanks

I've not had any issues running the client on our CM server for the past two months... still getting my head it personally but it's already proving to be a nice addition to our domain, gotta get some machines imaged using it next!

Our iPads are supervised to my Mac, I was still able to sync all our apps to them.

1. iTunes gift cards simply add money to an iTunes account, so doesn't matter, 2. Yes, single account, but to keep in licensing without VPP you're going to have to have one account per iPad to buy the app each time, so in r.e to Q1, you'll probably want 1 gift card per account 3. Yes, but you're going to have to sync apps across using iTunes after the inital Configurator setup on each iPad 4. See Q3, you can still sync each device at the same time, but you'll need some manual intervention with iTunes.

I requested a quote on keeping the equipment and it was into the £2000 mark... In the end I just bought our own TV bracket, 40" TV and a Sapphire Mini-PC Edge-HD to stick in our false ceiling for ~£650... works extremely well. Just going to build up a custom PHP site to manage content for the office staff and a front end scrip, probably in Python, to manage the information ticker and content playback. I also looked into Xibo but didn't really like it... it was a little to techie oriented in my mind for the teaching staff to use.

2013 is due to have the standard volume licensing too, it won't just be subscription based, iirc. I know people who have used Google Docs exclusively and get on just fine with it, the only problem is it doesn't have half the features Office has... saying that I doubt your young pupils would be using said features.

It sounds to me like you could do with EES licensing or something. We're a primary school and I always roll out Windows 7 using Office 2010 nowadays. I tried OOo a few years back before promptly switching back to MS Office. Don't get me wrong, I love free and opensource stuff and am grateful for it, but OOo is very clunky and slow from what I've found (even compared to Office...) and realistically, Office is the gold standard in like 90% of jobs that involve computers nowadays, give the kids what they're going to end up using.

+1 for the Draytek, I use the IPSec/L2TP VPN on their Vigor 2830 router for remote admin (and they just released a firmware update to enable IPv6 support, score!)

Makes sense, 1969 is when UNIX time begins so if a file is being created or something by something like a PHP script, it could well come up with a funky datestamp.

Never heard of someone want to do this in a primary before! Even our foundation class manages it!

Just tested one of them with my own laptop... Projector didn't detect VGA input when I plugged my MacBook in through the port on the wall, menu worked fine still Projector worked fine when my laptop was plugged directly in with another cable, menu too. Projector detects VGA input with teacher's laptop but the menu stops working. Projector worked fine with teacher's laptop, including menu. Weird! Must be the VGA cable in the ceiling, but it worked fine with the old projector.

Interesting, will give it a go tomorrow... the cables are all ones from projectors we had installed before the XJ-A130s, but anything's possible

Hey, Two of our XJ-A130 projects have come up with the same problem recently and I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this on Casio's projectors... basically you can turn them on via the remote or top panel but once it's on the projectors don't seem to take any input at all, and the source indicator stays up on the top right of the image... it's not an urgent problem as I just tell staff to turn them off at the switch for now but it's something I'd like to get sorted. As far as I know, no. This was introduced with the Live@Edu > Office365 for Education migration. How are you resetting their passwords and keeping them? I thought that as soon as the user logged in with the reset password it asked them to change it? I don't see it as a bad thing to be honest and actually set our security policy to this for staff...

Are you using the latest version of the software/drivers? I used to have the first problem back when we first started deploying Windows 7 a year or so ago but it doesn't happen now I'm using the latest download.

Since you have 2008R2 you could use DirectAccess, which assuming they're on Windows 7 clients, would be free... and even easier to setup if you could push to a Server 2012 upgrade. I'm looking to do this today actually for a few of our staff.

You create the RDNS record with whoever is providing your public IP addresses to you. You'll need to ask them to set RDNS for x.x.x.66 to the hostname of your server, like mail.school.cty.sch.uk. In your case you should set your RDNS to the hostname of your Barracuda.
