  1. MacBook Air is pretty expensive for what you need. A Mac Mini is a third of the price and will be perfect. We use a Mac Mini for one of our sets of bookable ipads and it works well.
  2. They seem awfully expensive for what they are.
  3. Thanks, i'll share this around our school VLE etc.
  4. We have similar issues with our IO6 devices and our Smoothwall cookie based AD Login. After speaking to the support, they advise using the google chrome app until they are able to resolve the Safari issue.
  5. We use year of entry, surname,.,initial 12Smith.J if we get another J Smith then they use 12Smith.John etc. Touch wood, we haven't had any students with the same name in same year group yet!
  6. All downloaded and installed. Macbook Air, IMac - has some nice new features now to have a play with. Phone and iPAD next on the list to move to IO6.
  7. We dont use this, but the options module at Free trial : timetable software ... for timetabling school timetables ... for easier scheduling. has a web based portal which students can fill in from home using their own login details provided. Can't give you any feedback, priced at just under £500 so it may be a little expensive for your needs but would reduce admin times immensely I would imagine.
  8. We disabled the sound enhancements also and it sorted our issue. This was advice from their Support team, if you give them a ring they will talk you through the fix. I couldn't find out how to roll it across our network so it's been a manual process to get it working for us in the rooms that require it.
  9. I agree with @bossman however and I wouldn't personally allow it.
  10. Only if you knew the disks they were going to use, you could create file access rules. A path access rule pointing to the DVD drive may also work, but you would need to hide the drive for students if you don't already do so, so they couldn't run programs via the DVD too.
  11. We don't use Applocker but had major issues trying to get Small Basic to work. In the end we had to create a 'sandbox' on a shared area. The .exe files are saved to that location and then ran from their with the necessary permissions in place.
  12. No issues here on our Terminal Server
  13. This may be the sort of thing your after. EduGeek AUP Informant
  14. We use Emerge with our PE department on iPOD touches. Soem of our Leadership team use emerge on their iPAD's - both work well.
  15. We were a CC3 school for 5 or 6 years and Connect 2.4 before that, each product has got better as it is released. Early installs of CC4 had major issues espescially for those schools who had an inplace upgrade - those that have gone for a fresh install have had a lot more success.
  16. We use it as our school 'Learning Gateway' - we don't advocate it as a VLE as we know it has it's limitations, but each department has a section to share notes, annoucements, resources, links etc. We removed our shared areas and all teaching resources have been uploaded to our Sharepoint install. We also use SIMS webparts to provde data to our staff, students and parents.
  17. Classroom Observation | Lesson Observation | Teacher Professional Development - IRIS Connect This sounds like what your after not sure of the cost, we've just mentioned it here but I am going to investigate whether theres anything else on the market.
  18. You'll need to go through this blog, following the checklists and request that you wish to upgrade. You need to have various things in place ready such as ADFS if you wish to sync with AD. We currently use FIM and will have to move away from that to get Office 365 working. I've also read regarding the password lengths etc having changed for Office 365 which is also slowing my progress down with the upgrade - we will probably look to upgrade next holidays after a bit more research on my behalf. Live@edu Upgrade to Office 365 for education (English) - Live@Edu Upgrade to Office 365 for education - Office 365 - Microsoft Office 365 Community
  19. 40k minimum for internet, licences, consumables, maintenance etc for 1,400 clients and 1,550 users. When we do a major network overall or project then we are provided with an additional budget required to match the needs.
  20. We migrated from CC3 to CC4 in September 2011. If your familiar with a CC3 network it takes a little of the hassle away from the steep learning curve. We've had very little problems other than a few niggling issues with printers etc which every man and his dog have suffered with but after having fully patched up network with all the RM updates it seems to be working as intended now. A lot of people say that an RM network is expensive and I agree as you pay the additional fee with the added licence costs etc, but I don't think we would be able to do our job here with a team of 2 with over 1,400 clients without an RM network. Things just work for us and we have adequate time to develop additional resources and projects without any problem. As per questions you will need to find out the following: Will you be required to attend CC4 training - I have a feeling this is inisted upon by RM, although I managed to get out of it. Will the user data be migrated across? I'd ask the staff in your school which software they use that is currently installed on your CC3 network, most titles will import into CC4 but you will need to recreate some + it's a pointless excercise installing software if its not going to get used. What OS will you be running on your workstations - XP or Windows 7. Will your hardware support Windows 7 if this is what you go for - scanners, printers etc. What sort of timescale are you thinking about the migration, I don't know how big your network is, but I wouldn't advise doing it over a week long holiday as it is nigh on impossible. You could setup the networks alongside each other and only fully migrate to CC4 when your are happy - some slight tweaks will need to be done to your network etc, possibly VLANing to keep things seperate - RM should support this and will be able to assist running two networks - 2 DHCP, DNS servers etc. If I can think of anything more to add - I'll come back.
  21. hmmm, I must admit I was defending them in my previous post, but I haven't had a response to my query as of yet which I thought I would have done. I'll try via telephone tomorrow.
  22. Does the ADFS or whatever the AD synchronisation tool not restrict the user to having passwords without the complex policy? We currently use Live@Edu and are looking to move to Office 365 with the AD linked together, currently our passwords need to be longer than 6 characters to sync, but I may need to think twice over the migration if the complexity of the user passwords will need to change again.
  23. We have ours set to run at 21, anything over 26 and my Climate Monitor starts to complain and alert me.
  24. I logged an e-mail query with CRB / Cunninghams this morning and haven't heard back from them, but if you are having long waits over the telephone I think I may be waiting for a while. Like my previous post regarding Smoothwall support, I think companies providing support within education will be support heavy over the next week or so. I must admit support through CRB has always been exemplary in the past for me, especially if I have a faulty revaluation machine with an engineer usually on site within a couple of hours.
  25. We managed to get them to work with a generic HP Windows 7 driver although I admit it took some persuading!
