As another solution, could you virtualise the server? i.e. make 2 webservers, have one on each domain (thus removing the issue with the domain/username) then sort out replication between the two.

If you have 1500 user and backups arent working, you should prioritise. Do all staff use webmail or do they use outlook and use offline mailboxes. If they use offline mailboxes then all might not be lost. Check out your c:\documents and settings\%username%\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\ directory. Copy the offline files, you might be able to open them seperatly once you have restored exchange and individual mailboxes, and drag the other emails back to the server.

No accident. I believe you are talking about the right company. It was pretty obvious. There was no accident, one of our SLT bought them in. We had an account manager with their specific business dept. but they decided that all orders go through their "high street" chain, who as i say have to pass on to the other brands when they cant deal with it, but still claim the credit for the order.

School sponsership. Yes - bloody XX XXXXX stores, not even business. Hate it, every order with reputable specialist suppliers gets passed to sodding XX XXXXX stores, who then cant deal with it and pass it to business, who then pass to to their seperate server specialist company.... As you can imagine, it makes warranty issues really simple to resolve......... It's even more annoying when they start substituting items be beat quotes, i.e. a toshiba branded mouse (not had one break in 3 years) and bag for a laptop becomes a £1.50 mouse that breaks as you take it out of the plastic bag and £2 bag, which has the straps break as teachers are walking up stairs, causing laptop to bounce it's way down to the bottom. Quality goods there. I really wish this was in the FFS forum so it wont get google indexed, which is why i've x'd out the name, but i'm sure you can figure it out. Meh. Not been asked to set background to their logo yet though. I really hope it doesnt happen. It's not exactly difficult, but I would rather clean every keyboard in school with my tongue than display their logo. I'm not against the principle and if i had a supplier who was worth it then maybe.....

This wouldnt be able to happen. Firstly all servers will be off site. secondly you will either be TUPE'd over or kept in another role. If you are TUPE'd, would you go against your new employer risking getting sacked? If you are placed in another role within the school, then the managed service provider will send a technician into the school. They would then not be willing to let you override their network.

I dont think the issue was that he isnt wanting to go thin clients provided that they can do the multimedia thing, it's more that the finance isnt there and he is trying to put the supplier off. Citrix et al. may provide better media / peripheral support but they further increase the costs. A thin client implementation isnt all that cheap at first. There are huge initial outlays.

USB peripherals such as scanners, webcams, IAW, etc.. Failing that as all others have said anything using flash or that is likely to be resource intensive.

Cue The Who, some Crime Scene tape, a nice new jacket with CSI on the back, a queue of students waiting to give blood samples and a nice big budget to buy the blood analysis machines plus a big shiny 2x Quad-Core Server to analyse the data!

Just out of interest does this have any licensing implications? I'm assuming that most people will use per device licensing, but if a device opens two connections would that still be the same? Also surely opening up 2 RDP streams puts the server under further strain, so if you usually get 30-40 sessions on one server, would that mean only 15-20 thin clients averaged per server?
