Lol, that's plan B (or Plan A for Spiders). We enact plan B when the Wasp follows behind the sofa...

I take the manly approach - Open the door/window and hide behind the sofa until it's gone.

Looking at the XB1's OS set up (Hyper-V) it makes some sense why it's not user upgradable. What is beginning to make less sense, given known game sizes, is why they both settled on 500Gb? Does seem a little small when you start taking everything into account.

The scaremongering going on with both consoles is getting silly. I must say Edugeek was the last place I'd have expected to see it. Most of these issues/complaints involve people not engaging their brains. Take the 400Gb hard drive. Forget PS4 for a minute, you can do this for any system - XB1, PC, Mac, etc.... 1) Install an off the shelf 500Gb hard drive. 2) Format it 3) Install an OS Now how much space is left on that drive for data? Why 400Gb doesn't sound too bad. I wonder if XB1 is similar? Also - Sony have already announced any 2.5" drive, so I call BS on the Sony specific rumor. Limited to 1Tb before the day 1 patch might be true - but it is a day 1 patch. Finally, the PS4 doesn't support external drives at all so that whole rumor is looking mighty suspect.

This is a totaly meaningless statistic without any detail. Are they virtual or real servers? In one data farm, or spread across the globe? What spec are they? CPU? RAM? Network connections? Are they dedicated for a particlular game/use? All I know is the Drivertar feature of Forza 5 looked very interesting.

I'm upping the PS4 to a 1TB SSHD on day one. After that it's a case of superfast broadband (currently at 60Mbps but can up it to 120Mbps at any time) and simple hard drive management (delete games I've played and don't need any more/redownload if I change my mind).

It is a bit of a mixed message from Sony. Still those "no resale" copyright restriction are standard clauses for just about any media (book, DVD, CD, game). It's also very rarely enforced, thus the FAQ and mixed message.

I'm considering a 1TB hybrid for day one, get the upgrade out the way.

Yes but £3.33 per game (assuming 12 AAA titles per year and using no other Gold/PS+ feature) is a little more than a bargin (PS+ gets about 40 games per year so £1 per game? £1 for Batman Arkham City? Give away).

As much as I "don't do chrismas" - I am picking up what you might consider an "early christmas present to myself" from the delivery depo tomorrow morning -

Very much is a Sony exclusive. Yep, you're right about the GT Prologue comparison, still - enough for me! The only other driver I've heard of - sounds great, looks good, cross platform - is The Crew, but that too is postponed till next year sometime. Got to admit, Forza 5 nearly had me buying the XBox One over the PS4. It's only my PS+ subscription that has kept me Sony loyal.

You don't get fired for buying IBM
tmcd35 replied to laserblazer's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
As much as I'd love to be an Apple fanboy (iPhone due an upgrade in 6 months ) - I don't think it's right to single out iPads per se, which honestly have just as meny teething problems. I think the "no one gets sacked for buying IBM" refers more to the back up and support rather than the build quility of the devices. You can just as easily say "no one gets sacked for buying Dell/HP/etc". Point being you'd get better help/support/warranty buying an Android tablet from Dell than buying a Hudl from Tesco. -
I know this is preaching to the converted and stating the blindingly obvious, but - If you are hosting yourself make sure both Wordpress and your Lamp/Wamp environment is fully updated, default passwords are changed and you disable any services you don't need. We got hacked a couple of months ago and our entire site was deleted because I over looked something obvious. Thankfully we keep pretty regular backups and the disruptions was quiet minor (back up in less than half a day). If I remember rightly we'd left WebDAV enabled on the default password which then gave some miscreant full access to the server. This was Wordpress hosted on a Windows XAMPP server. We installed XAMPP and thought we locked everything down. Didn't realise that is not only had WebDAV, but it was enabled as standard...

This should help 'em: I've been meaning to buy one off eBay for fits and giggles for years. Might get round to it one day. Got to find a place to store it first. I wonder if they charge using a Steve-Clive cable?

Hi, We have a number of A4/A3 Mono/Colour lazer printer we need to get rid of. Ideally we'd like to get "market value" for them. Don't have the time to list them on eBay myself. Anyone got any suitable ideas? Thanks

Didn't they release a range of spec's and guide prices at the biginning of last month? I seem to have got a entry level figure of $675 in my post on the previous page from somewhere?
-
Yep! Thanks guys, you've reconfirmed what I already thought. Used it as an oportunity to get the head to rethink upgrading our WiFi though (He will learn not to discuss ideas from conferences with me $$$$$)

Checks and balances. Low rate of income tax is seen as a good thing because we are constantly being screwed over in other ways. 20% VAT? Fuel Tax? and probably 100 other levies hidden away. Don't we have something like the most complex tax system in the world? I'm sure I read somewhere, if you added up all the hidden taxes the average person pays the equivalant of a 40% income tax rate anyway. Besides, what is the percentage if you just add N.I. contributions to the basic rate of income tax? N.I. as long since been another wording for Income Tax anyway. I'd be happy to pay 40%, maybe even a little more, if the entire tax system was overhauled and simplified, and we were seen to be getting our moneys worth out of key public services.
