Internal school calender + meeting room bookings?
tmcd35 replied to mrbios's topic in How do you do....it?
The internal and external school calendars are hosted on shared google calendars. Meetings rooms are booked on our classroom booking system, a module integrated in to CSE, which we use for asset management and helpdesk. We also use Tucasi's BookingPro to manage booking facilities out to the public outside of school hours. -
We just had GroupCall, ParentMail and Tucasi in to demonstrate their solutions. All three looked like pretty good products and worth looking at. We've gone for GroupCall as the right solution for us. Integrates with SIMS and makes it real easy to e-mail, snail mail or text both parents and staff.

Ah, yes - but we refer you back to the graphic. XP is surrounded by ME on one side and Vista on the other. Can't say there was ever a time - no matter how bad XP might have been - that I'd ever have ditched it in favour of either. I think we should have an ME uptime compitetion. I once made 30minutes without a BSOD

Definately and probably other meeting as well. I've been invited to a few over the past couple of years and get copied into the minutes for the curriculum meetings. This is something that management sometimes fail to grasp. ICT in school is more than what we teach kids, it's more than the equipment used to teach the kids. Pick any area of the school and you'd be hard pushed not to find ICT being used at some level. Some of the more important areas are not even (directly) curriculum related - MIS, Website, Finance, etc. It's been said here before, in similar medium sized companies there'd be a CIO role or something similar on the board of directors. The importance and pervasiveness of ICT in schools mean they are going to have to start thinking of ICT in a similar coperatewide manor. It's not the the guy in the cupboard turning the hampster wheel anymore. I think both Degree and Industry Experience would be more beneficial now days. That said, so long as the right candidate had experience across a number of schools as they rise through the ranks, there's no reason why someone can't go from school leaver to network manager. It's the growing with the job and not being afraid to move on to another school to learn how different schools work - both in terms of ICT and general school management - that's important for the lifer. I don't think you could be successful staying in one school.

I think @simongrahamuk has almost hit the nail on the head. My job as certainly moved from the classic "making sure the servers work" to more "making sure the (right) people" work over the past couple of years. It think the role is and will get ever more intergrated in the general day to day running of the school, a much more school wide senior responsibility than perhaps it was 5-6 years ago (at least in secondary schools). Certainly doing more project management, tenders, liasing with solution providers. Data Management seems to be merging more with IT here, more line management responsibility. Technology wise, the role is going to adapt more to solution providers. I can see tablets, BYOD and managed wifi being more prevalent and intregral to the running of a school in the next 5-10 years. This Beeb article from yesterday is a good example of where we are heading and how the role is going to have to adapt: BBC News - Teenagers 'own six digital devices', survey suggests

lol - I don't know how the XB1 manages it, but on the PS4 it's 15min and constant recording - PVR style. It's not "every now and again", it's constantly while you're playing the game. I'm pretty sure it's heavily compressed and in RAM, thus the large 3Gb reserves for the OS's on both systems.

Having had time to think about it, It would surprise me if the 5Gb video is written direct to the HDD. Be an awful lot of wear on the drive. Given both consoles reserve a good 3Gb of the 8Gb RAM for 'OS stuff', I think the continuous video recording can easily fit in side that RAM reserve of both systems. I mean, how big is a 720p30 15min MP4 anyway? Few hundred Mb?

No mention of what happens when you try to play game #21. Does it delete the game you haven't played for the longest time to make room? "automatic storage management" would suggest so, which means I can't see what the problem is. oh, wait a minute, yes I can...

You couldn't make this up could you.....we're all in this together.

Personally I don't see the number of representitives/constituency sizes to be a real problem. A bigger problem is the method of election, first past the post, winner takes all, has lead to some seriously misbalanced, unrepresentitive parliaments. It's an interesting state of affairs when our great leader gained office with 36% of the popular vote. 64% of the country doesn't want him there... -

Really, 215 doesn't sound like an aweful lot. Isn't the current system baised on roughly 100,000 people per constituency? For some reason it feels undemocratic to reduce representation to 1 in 300,000. Surely our politicians should be closer to those they perport to represent not further away? -

I think this thread is dancing around the central issue. As with the http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind-red-door/128005-pay-schools.html thread, the question is "what type of people do you want to attract to the role"? Then set the level of pay from there. If you want to attract CEO's, Accountants, Lawyers, Doctors, Headteachers, etc, then the level of pay needs to reflect that. If you think Builders and Dustmen bring the right level of experience to the job then set the pay at that level. (Not I'm not saying Builders and Dustmen wouldn't make great politicians, I'd just worry if by Dustman was made Chancellor of the Exchequer - that's all). As has been already said, since the current level of pay is way below the potential earnings of that type of well educated, skilled professional, it's hardly surprising many don't fancy a second career in politics. -
Does this sound like the right flow: Read character If character = { then read next three character else goto step last step If next three charcters = VAR then count number of characters to } else goto step last step number = truncate string from after R to before } Search database for image number attach database image to Image(nextsequentialnumber) insert string into output text to display image(nextsequentialnumber) move current character position to }and goto step 1 write character to ouput and goto step 1

Was that local WiFi, or was you out and about? Half considering getting a secondhand Vita for when I go visit relatives - hook up to their WiFi and stream my PS4 library? Be interested in finding out how well that kind of scenario works.

By "massive security bill" you mean G4S employing those planning terroist activities? -

Forgive my ignorance, not read too closely into the issue, but isn't the thrust of @elsiegee40's arguements that these expenses are being stopped in favour of an 11% pay rise? -
Could something like this: 3G UbiCell Personal CDMA Base Station Be used to hijack mobile signals and prevent them from communicating with the local mast?

Silly question, but doesn't the answer to the OP's query rather depend on Aunties business requirements? Number of users? Type of Internet activity? How the business relies on the Internet? Any services being hosted locally? etc. For we know the correct answer could be Business ADSL with 56k Dial backup. On the other hand it could be bonded gigabit fibre, etc. Edit: Businesses needing more than ADSL, but no the expense of leased lines, may want to investigate Ethern First Mile (EFM) as a cheap, reliable alternative.

Neither did I, Thought he was going somewhere similar with it though (I was thinking pound - as £ currency).
