I disabled EVERYTHING in the BIOS except the VIA chipset for the SATA, and after a number of attempts, and no reason why it would / wouldn't install, it did. Don't know how or why it finally accepted defeat though! So, now I have a 64 bit OS, if only I hadn't put it on an 80gb HD!

Installed on a laptop Same disc won't work on desktop. I'm using an official Windows 7 Ultimate disc.

Why won't the bl**dy thing install??? Microsoft support: "Format the hard drive"; "oops that didn't work, must be a hardware fault, you're on your own" So thanks to the official MS support, I'm left with a computer with no OS on it! Install Vista, no problem, but won't install 7, so it's not a hardware fault. I've tried everything, even ACHI turned on in the BIOS, everything else off, still no windows 7.... GRRRRRRRR :mad:

Over the weekend, some of you may have seen that the government is trying to cut wages in schools, by having less "managers" or managers paid less. Now I was thinking about how teachers are a militant bunch, and certainly not prepared to give up money. Network managers however are less well thought of by teachers than their teacher colleagues (in general) and some staff and headteachers have the opinion that being a school techninian is a previlidge (sorry about the spelling, I'm feeling like crud with a blinkin' cold!) Whats the betting that soon there will be a review of NM's salaries and roles, with a view to downsizing the pay?? I've heard that this is being considered in Cumbria, so watch out!

I knew about Bolton, I'm just waiting for the riots! There was a programme on Radio 4 about the schools there, and how all the white kids are moving out because they are increasingly in the minority with the kids of asian descent. Didn't know about Darwen though. Which schools are being "Academised", presumably not my old Alba Mater, St. Wilfrids???

I HATE Dan Brown! When I followed the crowd and read the Davinci Code, I was sorely disappointed. I know it's fiction, and badly researched fiction making HUGE leaps of inaccuracys, but people really believed that most of what he said was true, and just weaved a story round it. Poorly written pseudo-intellectual bull, in my opinion, but I'd best be careful, the last time I did a "book review" (Greetings in Jesus Name), the author signed up to edugeek to complain to me!

We had BT Vision for a while. Hated it! Went back to SkyHD. The QoS is nonsense, it just didn't work in the evenings, or stuttered when it would finally agree to letting you watch a programme you'd paid for. Plus you're tied to BT broadband to get it to work!

I'd advise installing Webmin, it makes administrating a linux server a doddle, and its very simple to install. Check it's not running first by going to http://127.0.0.1:10000, if you don't see webmin, install it!

I think of all the "conspiracy theories", the 9/11 is the most disgusting.

LanView was well worth investing in, I didn't, but then, I'm not an ICT technician at the moment!
