you need to select device to image (laptop HDD to image file), then follow the wizard which should prompt you to specify the image name/where it gets saved to.

That purple theme looks nice, but the close/minimise/maximise button position are enough to put me off especially after the problems i've been having with 9.10.

computer_expert replied to karldenton's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall

What configurable proxy / filter to use?
computer_expert replied to Number6's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
You'll need to boot from the CD and the rest of it is wizard based. After the start clonezilla screen, select device-image and when it asks you where you want to save the image choose the samba server option (to save to a windows share). You will then need to provide the details of the share and any credentials (username/password)for clonezilla to access the share and save the image. -

What configurable proxy / filter to use?
computer_expert replied to Number6's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
yep, i always use clonezilla as it supports a lot of storage options like storing the image on an SSH server/samba (windows) share and several other methods as well. best of all is that it's free and easy to use -
What configurable proxy / filter to use?
computer_expert replied to Number6's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
to save keep reinstalling ubuntu/squid/dg and reconfiguring them, i'd get it all working then take a HDD image with something like clonezilla to save a bit of time. Once you have the HDD image, that would be when i start messing around with configuration settings as if it breaks you can just reimage it rather than keep reinstalling everything. -
PS3 + not "upgrading" the firmware to 3.21
computer_expert replied to Theblacksheep's topic in Gaming
finally managed to do it - the apache logs indicated that my ps3 looked for a update/ps3/list/uk/ directory (which gave 404 errors as it didn't exist), so i created it and copied the text file over but it still gave errors. Since using the info in this post, it's been fine. I used my debian lenny server (running in a VM) to act as the DNS\web server to serve the modified files to my PS3 and allow it to sign in to PSN -
they are still there if you use the non tab layout

PS3 + not "upgrading" the firmware to 3.21
computer_expert replied to Theblacksheep's topic in Gaming
I've been trying to use the Linux guide from here, but it downloads the file ok (no 404 errors like i was having) and still won't sign into the PSN. Anyone have any ideas? While searching for other methods of bypassing the check, i found this which made me laugh: 3.21 remove other os 3.30 remove ps2 support from bc models due to security risk 3.35 removed avi mp4 playback from the ps3 due to copyright concerns 3.40 removed ps1 support due to security risk 3.55 removed web browser from the xmb due to security risk 3.60 removed media server due to security risk 3.70 fixed a bug in photos that could allow remote browsing in the ps3 -

i wondered if anyone would post that video! I'm surprised that that never made it into the articles -
there have been a few people mention this on the smoothwall express forums, but i don't think anyone has implemented it yet. I've been meaning to test this out for the past 2/3 years but haven't got much further than installing debian/squid in a VM & forgetting about it

they are configured to use the same workgroup aren't they?

Dansguardian + squid (on a linux box) or the smoothwall express (different to the commercial version mentioned above) with the danguardian mod. -
block Apple products (ipods and iphones ) on wireless
computer_expert replied to bart21's topic in Windows
is there a wildcard function that will allow you to block the Apple [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organizationally_Unique_Identifier]OUI[/ame]? ie. block 00:25:4B:**:**:** and it should block all Apple devices connecting just like blocking *.bbc.co.uk in a url filter would block the entire BBC range of subdomains? edit: i'm talking about MAC addresses here just incase anyone wonders -

Does it boot when you select 'Boot from hard drive' from the LiveCD options? -

Brilliant phone! it may be an old one, but it certainly was one of the better SE handsets they produced (along with the k750/k800/k810) back in the day. The DB2010 platform that the w810 uses is rock solid compared to some of the newer stuff that SE phones run on. I have a 3yr old k810 myself and it does everything i need it to (make calls, send texts & take pictures etc).

Isn't X-Plane cross-platform as well? I did have FS2004 and i used a PS2 (playstation, not the PC connection) controller which was ok, but didn't do too well with throttle control though.
