  1. Hi again guys, We have not that long installed 64 thin clients to 4 terminal servers in our 2 new IT rooms. They've been up and running for 5 to 6 weeks now and they are connected to 17" LG TFT's. We have problems with the monitors going into standby and we have to power cycle the thin clients to get them back up and running again. We have also found that with regular power cycling, the thin clients sometimes hang on the splash screen requiring a reinstall of OS from a USB flash drive. I have contacted HP and put these questions to them, however the poor guy had been deviated from his cue cards and was asking questions to answers I had given him 15 mins previous - I felt my bladder starting to boil:rolleyes: I cannot seem to find the firmware listed for the t5145 as maybe flashing the TC's with the latest FW would help? I would also like to ask regular TC users wether if they leave them on permanently or switch them off, just looking for best practice. Cheers me dears, Andy Turpie

Hi Guys, We have just had a rackmount RM server installed and we now have a perfectly functioning Dell PowerEdge 1600SC specs below : Quantity Parts # Part Description 1 PE1600SC - NON HOT PLUG SCSI - XEON 3.0G 1 UK/IRISH - DOCUMENTS, CD AND UK/IRISH PO 1 NON-REDUNDANT CHASSIS OPTION 1 1GB DDR ECC SDRAM MEMORY, (1X1GB) 1 ADDITIONAL XEON 3.0GHZ/512K 533FSBCACHE 2 36GB SCSI ULTRA320 (15, 000RPM) 1IN 68 PI 1 PERC4 SC RAID CONTROLLER, 64MB, U320, SI 1 48X IDE CD-ROM DRIVE(N) 1 PV100T DAT/DDS4 SINGLE TAPE DRIVE, INTER 1 NO OPERATING SYSTEM.(N) List taken from Dell website pertaining to service tag. Last year the server was upgraded to 4gb of DDR 2100 and I have also added in a couple of IDE drives 1x40GB 1x80GB (I think!). Quite a powerhouse and only looking for £200.00 and pick up only please from Watford. The tape drive was removed and an additional DVD-RW was installed. We may still have the tape drive kicking around but can't guarantee it. Contact via Email or PM please:D Regards, Andy Turpie
  3. Hi Guys, Just had a visit from an Olivetti rep, who can supply a network managed print solution in the school, where every print is metred and we get billed for how many pages we use. This will include free service and consumbles and replacement of printers every 18 months during the agreement. Have any of you guys gone for something like this and have you made great savings as promised by transferring to this type of service? Look forward to hearing your feedback, Regards, Andy Turpie
  4. Hi Guys, We have an issue with the installation of our Hitachi startboards and was wondering if anyone else has had or resolved the problem. Hardware is RM one version 3 running CC3 and Hitachi Starboard FX Duo with install disc ver 8.10. During the inital install a dialogue box pops up regarding a program called simpliwrite and asks you to point at where to save the data. Our Hitachi man came in to look and exclaimed that simpliwrite should not be available on this version and should not ask for it. It also pops back up everytime when you execute the Hitachi Software again. The other issue is the save function. The data folder is default to my docs which seems to have an invalid path called \StarBoard\Data (No drive letter). We have to manually change the drop down window to custom setting to N:\StarBoard\Data\documents to our shared area. Now everytime you log off it seems to lose the settings. The guy at Hatachi reckons it looks like a registery issue or RM script. The install of 8.0 on our older board has no issues, but lacks essential tools for the maths team. Hope someone out there has any ideas, apart from these little niggles I cannbt recommend the starboards enough:D Regards, Andy Turpie
  5. I was just looking for a quick disaster recovery procedure, hate having to faff with driver disks have a machine restart umpteen times and have a machine down for a couple of hours just for the sake of around 6gb of data. My plan was to build one machine from each department just how it should be and clone it to the others when needed. I have just "trialled" spotmau bootcare and with out compression can clone a 6gb image in 7 mins from external hdd. Less downtime, less faff. Regards, Andy
  6. Hi guys sorry forgot to let you know its CC3. My main goal is to build one machine, get all the updates and packages downloaded and installed take an image of it and blast it onto identical machines by somehow forcing a change of name for it to be accepted on the network. My networking skills aren't that great and have little experience with AD etc so its all a wee bit confusing lol Cheers, Andy T
  7. Hi Gang, Our school has a lot of matching RM ones and mobiles which I have tried many ways to get one of the machines just to how they should be and then clone the hard drive to the others. The problem I have is even though we add the machine names to active directory, it just will not work. I have tried the name machine program in the RM/Install folder as well as the set domain. i.e old machine would be Watford-RM/Lynnes PC, when cloned and tried to rename the PC to Andrews PC then shows the name Andrews PC/Lynnes PC which then locks you out of any login you try and a full rebuild is then needed. Is there a sure fire way around this that could save a lot of time. PS if this is in the wrong area Mods, accept my appologies. I am also open to any ideas or suggestions regarding cloning/restoring RM machines rather than do a full metal restore of every single machine and then clone each individual (around 600).. I look forward to thoughts comments, debates etc Andrew Turpie at Watford Grammar School For Girls
  8. Hey, I'm also studying with Advent training doing the MCSE 2003 track, which I started 2 years ago, but I'm still doing A+ at the moment with about a month or so of re-revising I should be set to do my 220-602 technicians exam. I would have liked to pull my finger out and progress with studying but work and family commitments held me back, as I am now in a more relaxed working enviornment, I hope to get there ASAP. Regards, Andy Turpie
