  1. Hi all, I just wondered if someone could guide me in the correct direction. I'm looking for an adapter to extend displays between two monitors for Windows 10. Not mirror displays but extend the display. The PC model is as per the link:- https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/-6qr97ea/version.asp There is a HDMI port, two Display Ports and a VGA port on this model. Thanks all
  2. Same here, has been happening at many of our clients too. It is definitely down to a Windows update. Removing the updates does not fix the issue.
  3. Hi all, Have a Macbook which has mapped drives to a Windows Server. When the user takes the Macbook home they get a message popping up on screen that they cannot connect to the server (because they are away from the work premises). My assumption is this relates to the mapped drives. Is there any way to disable this message ? Thanks all
  4. Thanks for all these replies guys.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I am aware they aren't Windows laptops, I guess as I only attend clients premises every few weeks for a couple of hours or so, I feel reluctant to create further work for myself using different hardware and software to manage when they are currently using a Windows network (although the client comes first) and I am there only briefly during each visit, especially when they can use the likes of Teams or Google Classroom from their current notebooks and Ipads.
  6. Hi Guys, Not sure if this the correct thread, but, I just wondered for anyone out there who looks after schools, how they feel about chromebooks. I haven't used them a great deal but they came across as not ideal. Many schools think chromebooks are just another laptop which can be connected to a school network with share drives etc. and I have found schools purchasing these without any information provided to IT staff like myself beforehand. What are your thoughts ? My feelings are that they are just really suitable for Internet access and configuring printing on them, installing the likes of Smart Notebook and other applications is simply not possible. Also, setting up Internet filtering certificate's onto them is a tedious process which requires contacting Google and unless you have a Google GSuite subscription is a further annoyance. I appreciate any feedback on this as chromebooks are not something I want to bring into a windows network when Teams and the likes of Google Classroom is available through laptops and iPads. Thanks all
  7. Hi all, Have a school who use Class Dojo and try to upload videos to this website via Smoothwall Filtering. Have setup the Smoothwall to allow Class Dojo as per the Smoothwall article https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002480179-Configuring-the-Smoothwall-Filter-to-Allow-Access-to-the-iOS-and-Android-ClassDojo-App and also added in the following which is not shown on the article, but the videos will still not upload. If they use for example their own mobile phone data they upload fine, so something on the Smoothwall is still blocking them. Any thoughts much appreciated. The phones do have the Smoothwall certificate installed and it doesn't work on school laptops either. *.classdojo.com *.pubnub.com use.typekit.net *.loggly.com amplitude.com *.filestack.com toolkit.classdojo.com *.filepicker.io And whitelist these two URLs: https://dojovideos.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/ https://dojovphotos.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/
  8. Hi all, I just wondered if anyone moved away from the conventional OVS Volume Licensing Office versions such as 2013, 2016, 2019 to the cloud-based Microsoft 365 Office versions ? We have clients that use the OVS Volume Licensing Office versions that you can just install from a CD for example or push out via GP, but we want to move the over to the cloud-based Microsoft 365 Office versions. Did you have to uninstall the OVS versions then install the cloud-based versions ? What are the real benefits of the cloud-based versions part from storing in the cloud and being able to access from anywhere and cost, is there anything else ? What about pupils for example, they all require an Office 365 email account to access the office cloud-based office applications ? Thanks all for any responses.
  9. Hi all, Have two HP Gen servers, Gen 9 and Gen 10, located at different sites. Oddly and identically, both rebooted at 7.15 and 12.15 yesterday and today. Both run Windows 2016. They have both had cumulative updates installed within the last few days. Did wonder if it was that. However, ran Bluescreenview which displayed the following:- 011921-29281-01.dmp 19/01/2021 07:00:01 CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED 0x000000ef ffffb60c`83cd6080 00000000`00000000 00000000`00000000 00000000`00000000 ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+15d2e0 x64 ntoskrnl.exe+15d2e0 C:\Windows\Minidump\011921-29281-01.dmp 8 15 14393 724,692 19/01/2021 07:16:12 I know sometimes having an external USB drive can cause issues on Windows 2016 HP Servers. Just wondered if anyone else has had such issues ? Thanks all
  10. Hi all, I'm looking to maybe speak with schools and get them to move away from SIMS \ FMS. I've read good reports about Bromcom , but just wondered what costs are compared to SIMS \ FMS. Also, any thoughts on other MIS Systems and costs. I've heard Scholar Pack is more expensive to SIMS. But from what I gather, Bromcom allows full finance i.e. SIMS \ FMS type of system to be web-based. Admin staff tend to not want change as they are always busy and hate learning new systems. But they have to move on. Thanks all for any replies.
  11. Hi all, Not sure if this is the right forum, but just wondered if RDP to a work office at home, you can add a home wireless printer to RDP Windows settings ? I know local printers i.e. USB can be added through the 'local resources' tab but will wireless work ? Thanks all
  12. Thanks Guys for the replies. From further info I have had. I think the main issue is that Google Meet keeps coming up with Network Error. However, the likes of Zoom or Teams works fine. This is using Windows laptops. I assume this is a Smoothwall issue. Thanks again.
  13. Hi all, Anyone know how to setup the filtering on a Smoothwall UTM to allow Google Classroom to work in a school ? Thanks all
  14. Yes that is correct Steve - - - Updated - - - Thanks everyone for your replies.
  15. Hi all, Not sure this is the correct forum but I am looking for a value for money virtual office and 0800 number option whereby clients can call an 0800 number which diverts from my mobile phone. Really appreciate any feedback. Thanks all.
  16. It was teracopy causing the issue guys. Well done.
  17. Thanks Guys for your replies. I've installed terracopy onto thousands of Windows 10 without any issue at all. However, removing terracopy is a fair point and maybe causing the issue. Ill remove it and let you know. Cheers.
  18. Hi all, I have posted a video on the link belowregarding issues copying files on Windows 10. Does not matter where it is being copied from and to on the laptop or even to and from an external hard drive. This is the latest version of Windows 10 20H2, but I have encountered this on earlier versions and also using Win 10 Pro and Win 10 Education. Also the same issue occurs regardless of the manufacturer of the laptop, in this case HP or Lenovo. These are not imaged laptops or any modifications have not been done. I believe the issue is certainly to do with updates. Before updates are installed, there doesn't seem to be the issue. Please see the video link. I will be very surprised if others have not encountered this. I look forward to any thoughts. Thanks https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-GHUKNSBJJIQKSHjjEALJFBRmkHhnsDt/view?usp=sharing
  19. Hi all, Just a question regarding which version of Windows 10 most engineers out there use for school pupils or even staff ? I'm looking for a version really with built-in bloatware apps removed and have a cleaner version of Windows 10. Would I be correct to say that if apps are updated via Windows update before sysprepping if causes issues ? I have heard this somewhere. Thanks all
  20. Event log points to a kernelbase.dll error Faulting application name: explorer.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\kernelbase.dll
  21. Hello, Have Windows 10 version 1909 Build 18363.418 If try to copy files to my PC the screen flashes quickly and then the file has not copied. There is no access denied and I don't think it is a permissions issue, I think it maybe an issue with the build. I can create shortcuts and save as to the desktop, just cannot copy files to anywhere on the PC. However, can copy files using a command line. Any help greatly appreciated.
  22. Hi all, I'm looking for a good laptop and PC supplier i.e. reliable with good support if any problems in the UK. I know there are the likes of PC World, Ebuyer etc but I know there must be suppliers out there that get stock in bulk that can be purchased at a smaller price. Any recommendations very grateful. Thanks
  23. Hi all, We use Smoothwall filtering in our primary schools we service, which I am getting more and more used to managing over the last 3 years. However, just wondered if others have used Smoothwall or considered it and are using alternatives to Smoothwall. Smoothwall can be quite expensive and the support service can be very frustrating at times, I wondered if others are using a filtering system that is user-friendly, affordable and the support service is good ? Thanks all
  24. Hi all, Windows 2016. I have a snap-in which says "mmc cannot initialize the snap-in". Oddly, it happens to the same snap-in at several clients with Windows 2016 servers, but not with 2012 or 2019 servers. Any ideas really thankful. Thanks all
  25. Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm completely new to Google Classrooom. Not even started with it. I have been aware of schools using the Dfe funding to get this setup, but thought for future use, once the funding has ceased, it maybe an opportunity for myself to setup. Our schools use SIMs. It's just a thought, but something else I'd like to get my teeth into if it isn't overly time consuming. Thanks all
