  3. Great advice guys. Many thanks.
  4. Yes thank you. The pressure really gets on when you only have a couple of hours and so many switches and hundreds of cables !!!
  5. Did wonder about that one !
  6. Hi Guys & Girls, I'm sure like me sometimes you have to encounter the dreaded network cabinet with several switches in it and several patch panels amongst other things the router, wireless controllers, UPS you name it. Not my favourite, especially when you don't know the place, or what goes where, you are cramped for room and cannot fathom at all where cables are running from and to between equipment. So my question is, in such a scenario when a client has lost complete connectivity to the network or Internet or both what is the best approach. Ok, I will check the server and router are working as they should, check switches are all powered up, but what if all these seem fine. Yes I do all my normal ping tests. But when you have a cab that is described as above and so little time to really start unplugging hundreds of cables and you are rebooting equipment or shutting it down which isn't labelled, anyone have a best approach on this ? If I don't know the place i'm up against it from the off. I've seen switches that visually look like they are working and aren't. Id' rather leave cabinets with many, many switches and hundreds of cables to those who enjoy it !!! Any best approaches to this much appreciated. Thanks
  7. Thanks Meldrew for the reply. If I may ask, so how do you provide cheaper broadband then, i'm not asking to know your secrets, just wondered how this happens. What can you install that is different from a broadband provider ? The broadband still comes via a provider. I'd like to know more. Please send me an email, not sure if you provide a service beyond Cornwall.
  8. Yes I thought so, I can't see how it can be any other way. These companies can't be laying their own cables to provide the service !!! I have seen some of these companies install their own routers, to provide filtering etc to the businesses and state that they are providing the broadband. They must be acting as a reseller, making money from the customer and paying a smaller cost back to the broadband provider I would assume.
  9. Hi Would just like to ask a question about IT Support Companies who go to businesses advising them that they can provide a faster and cheaper broadband service than they already have. How can they do this or are they just simply going to another broadband provider or acting as a reseller ? Thanks.
