Hi all, Majority of our schools use SIMs, the odd one or two use Scholarpack. I'd like to try and get my schools on an alternative to SIMS FMS by using a cloud-based system. Any recommendations out there please ? Thanks all, look forward to hearing from you.

Hi all, Think I've posted in the correct thread. Anyway, just wondered if Google Classroom is difficult to setup or how long it roughly takes and what's needed. Thanks all, look forward to your response.

Thank you

Hi all, Due to budgets - just wondered if anyone out there supplies or knows somewhere to obtain laptops for pupil use in a school at a good price ? Sorry, I know it's a subjective question but it's mainly down to budget and hardware which will work reasonably ok. Mainly for Internet use but there maybe the odd application like scratch and couple of others, nothing extensive. Thanks all

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone out there is using Webroots DNS Web Filtering with Cloud-Based Protection and 3 questions in relation to it if I may :- 1) It is easy to setup ? 2) Is it straight-forward in allowing or disallowing categories, websites ? 3) What is the support like if help is needed as with the antivirus support it is all done via a ticket system ? Thanks all

DfE Funding for Google Classroom/Office 365.
discoveranother replied to discoveranother's topic in Cloud Services
Thank for these replies. From the replies provided, if they are going to get paid all that they can do the work. My only apprehension is if I have to be doing some work due to preventing them access to school servers, depending on the work involved, then naturally I would want a small cut unless the work on my side is very, very minimal. I spoke with someone at Dfe, they said that as far as they are aware these partners and schools have been notified about the security side of things in terms of accessing any school systems onsite remotely and confidentiality etc and that all funding costs should be going to the partner and that they should be doing all the work !!! -
DfE Funding for Google Classroom/Office 365.

Thanks for this. I wondered what they are actually getting paid to do. I've heard although not sure, that they are getting paid between £1500 - £2000 for what ? Apparently the monies are paid to the schools who then pay the MSP recommended by Dfe, but it would be interesting to know what they are actually being paid for. One MSP who is setting up Google G Suite said they will be supporting the G Suite for a year. So this must be the same for the O365 possibly ? But we look after the O365 anyway so very curious what these MSPs are actually supporting or doing. Thanks -
DfE Funding for Google Classroom/Office 365.

Thanks for this. I've seen emails from the appointed partner asking the school directly to provide them with login details to extract the data from MIS on the schools server and also requiring Global Administrator access to Microsoft 365, which i'm very apprehensive about. We are a very small MSP and naturally don't want any of these partners 'treading on our toes' so to speak (although business is business) but also them being allowed administrative logins to school servers or Microsoft 365. -
Hi all, There has been alot of emails from the Dfe regarding free funding for schools for Google's G Suite or Office 365 Education. The email goes like this or part of it:- The Department for Education (DfE) is offering free, expert technical support for schools to get set up on an accredited digital education platform. You can apply to get set up on one of two free-to-use digital education platforms: Google’s G Suite for Education or Microsoft’s Office 365 Education. I gather the email states that Dfe have a list of MSPs to provide to schools to carry out this work and the MSP gets paid for it. As a small MSP ourselves, I just wondered if others have had these emails and what work is actually involved for an MSP to do, particularly in relation to Microsoft’s Office 365 Education ? Look forward to hearing any feedback. Thanks all

Thank you for your replies. Much appreciated. Yes I think the next step is checking at the camera end, so need some ladders !!! Hope it's not too difficult to get the camera out but thanks for the info. I'm sincerely hoping its not a cabling problem, although I would have assumed if it was the LED light would be off but I'm no expert.

Thanks for the replies. Firstly, I have tried the camera connection into another camera channel on the back of the DVR, but still no signal. For the fuse, could the fuse be located at the camera end ? Thanks all. Below are pics of the back of the DVR and inside the PSU at the wall where the 4 camera cables run to and then continue to the back of the DVR.

Thanks for both replies. Looking at the model of the DVR it just says Inspire COP Security CCTV INS-BLACK04-1000 4 Channel Unit. There are 4 coaxial cable connectors that run from each channel on the DVR for each camera and then the cable runs into a power unit on the wall and the cables then run to each camera. These are not network cables. The only network cable runs from a router into the DVR in addition to the cables above. So it looks like the 4 cables provide the power to the cameras directly. I don't know how the cables are connected at the camera end or if the cameras are detachable from the base as per the photo.

Hi all, I'm not sure this is the correct thread as I cannot see one for CCTV. Have a CCTV system, a DVR box which has 4 outside cameras linked directly to it via a power unit. One of the cameras has just suddenly lost signal. I rebooted the DVR and the camera came back on for about 10 seconds then went off again. I can't see anything in any log files on the DVR or anything that says why the camera has gone off. I have checked the cable connection of the CCTV camera to the back of the DVR and seems fine. I'm at a bit of a loss now. I did wonder if it is simply not getting enough power, but these have been running for 7 years no probs. Although I know things can happen anytime. Does the camera have anything I can check on it itself ? The type of cameras are night vision infrared camera shaped like a dome, installed by a CCTV company who no longer exist. A photo of one of the cameras is attached. How would I be able to check this camera ? Does the camera come apart from the base ? Thanks all for any feedback.

I meant to say setup the connection as Remote Desktop Services (aka Terminal Services)
-
Hi Guys, Have a 2012 virtual machine which hosts a financial database application. I want to set a user up with a remote connection whereby when they log on to this virtual machine from home, if anyone else logs onto the virtual machine it doesn't log that user off. Setting up the remote connection is not a problem, it's just the logon part of it. I want the user to be able to stay logged on directly to the VM with her login until she logs off, whilst at the same time I may be logged onto the VM as myself. Do I need to setup the connection as a terminal server connection to the VM ? The main DC server is 2016 which hosts the 2012 application VM within hyperv. Any feedback much appreciated.

Hi all, Not sure this is the correct forum as I couldn't see a 'backup' forum, but here goes. I'm looking for a solution or the best option for disaster recovery. For example, backing up a whole physical server and virtual machines that can be restored relatively quickly. Virtual machines are obviously quicker to restore but I wondered if there is a solution for backing up both physical and virtual machines to cloud and should the on-premise physical server completely crash, the customer can login to the cloud and continue using the backed up server or the backup can restore to hardware on-premise relatively quickly. I know this is a lot to ask, and I know there are options like Azure to use instead etc, but the customers are on tight budgets, so just thought I'd throw this in and see what the feedback is, as some customers just have physical servers, others have physical servers with hyperv running on them with VMs. Basically, i'm looking for speedier options for recovery for example, if a physical server goes down completely, even if it has VMs, that server either needs rebuilding or a new one installed and then the VMs restored or the physical DC rebuilt completely which all takes time. Is there a recommended solution, software that others use for quicker recovery ? I look forward to hearing what others have implemented or recommend. Thanks all

Virtual Machine on different hardware
discoveranother replied to discoveranother's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Thanks. I used disk2vhd. I don't really want to remove the hyperv role as there is a VM being used. But thanks anyway. -
Hello all, I have ran P2V on a Dell Poweredge server. I then added this virtual machine to hyperv on a HP Proliant, but it will not boot up, just keeps flashing. I am aware this is because it is using different hardware from the original Dell server. Is there anyway I can get this VM to run on the HP Proliant ? The virtual machine is Windows 2008 so will be using Gen 1 when I create it into the HyperV host which runs Windows 2012. Any help much appreciated.

Barclays.net Gemalto 6.6 Login Problems
discoveranother replied to discoveranother's topic in Windows 10
Thanks. No they haven't actually. Will try that. Are there any security settings or trusted sites within Firefox need adding ? Thank you -
Hello all, Have Windows 10 Professional with latest updates. Using IE 11 and just cannot get the barclays smart card to work via the website. It shows installed fine in device manager, version 6.6. software, but when the user selects 'login' on the barclays.net page, nothing happens. Pop-up blocker is disabled. Trusted sites for barclays are added. All other websites work on IE, but Barclays eventually says "not responding". Have tried Firefox and the Login button doesn't even show. Are there other settings with Firefox to do ? It's a nightmare. Any help much appreciated. Thanks all

Contact Micosoft - Server OS Error
discoveranother replied to discoveranother's topic in Windows Server 2019
Thanks for the link, but there is no support option for Windows Servers. -
Thanks for this. I noticed that on this particular server there are only 3 rules, whereas on a working one there are 7 items as you also say above. I can't see how to add extra rules to a group called Hyperv. I can't even see where the rules are setup on either server. I assume they are done via Group Policy but can't even find them and have looked and looked through the various group policy settings.
