Primarily, my aim is to lean C#. I just think I may as well try and learn it while developing something that really interests me. In theory, it should hold my attention a lot more. Years ago, I bought a 'teach yourself VB' book which involved building a stock market tracker program. After chapter 2, I gave up as I had no interest with building a program to monitor the FTSE100!

While I'm years away from the same level, the guy who made Dead Cyborg all by himself managed 3D alright. Not Unreal engine quality, but still none too shabby.

Thanks for all the feedback, indeed @LosOjos, "noob" is a most adequate term here for my level! I completely understand there is no hope of jumping straight into making a game of my dreams here, but half the reason of starting out like this is to learn some new skills. My aim is to learn the basics, grapple with recreating something basic like pong, pacman or pinball, and then continue to try and learn and build on it. When I fell more confident, I will then give making my own game a shot. Like @X-13 suggested, I'll likely go for a platform game of some sort first and then take it from there.

It always fascinates me how you hear of indie games can built by a single person with skills in coding because they could do it, or because they they wanted to learn how to code. I believe the creator of Terraria built it purely to learn how to code in C#? I've never done anything like it but I'd really like to give it a go learning C# and maybe try my hand at developing something. Whatever it is, it would be ground breaking or awesome, but if I learn from it, that's a plus in its own. If anyone has any suggestions on where to start, useful resources, books, tutorials etc, please feel free to share then.

No restart required.

We experienced something similar a few months ago. We found running reports resulted in duplicate entries but previewing them then running them resulted in the correct data being pulled through. There is a patch to address this duplicate data issue, I'll see if I can dig out the patch number.

Nope, never touched it before (as far as I can remember)!

This is really odd, just loaded up my PC and noticed a new icon on my desktop called "Shadow Warrior Classic (1997)". No idea where it came from so I looked at the properties of it and turns out to be a steam 'rungame' link. I've looked in my Steam library and lo and behold, Shadow Warrior classic (1997) is in there and, even more oddly, downloaded. I've not bought it, I've not downloaded it, it's not on a Steam "free weekend" and I've looked in my steam account history and there is no trace of it there. Any ideas where its come from, and how on earth it downloaded itself?

Review: It works like a dream in my car and feats a treat in the middle of my dash. Even better is that because it's super flexible, a few minor adjustments means I can change it from a landscape phone holder for satnav use, to a portrait iPod and FM transmitter holder too!
-
Update: Battery is in and seems to be working a treat. Performance is better then my old one, looks like I should get a full day from it. I reckon I would get more from it if I had not over clocked my phone.

[closed] bug/error: Quick Search broken?
Rawns replied to Rawns's topic in EduGeek.net Site Problems
Curses! Suddenly feel like I'm playing Ogame again and have just lost my fleet... -
There seem to be a lot of different 'search' threads and I can't see one for this issue, but if there is one already, apologies for the duplication. The Quick search filed on the forum (top right) does not seem to be working at the moment. Searching for ARMA3 results in no results: It seems to be the same when searching for fairly common words like Windows, Microsoft etc etc.

My GTX280 makes super light work of it.
-
My bad, completely missed Black Mesa in you list!
-
Aaggggg, my bad! very sorry if I offended!!! Find it hard to tell gender by forum names! I won't be, no. Too much work going on!
-
Cheers chap. All working this end now.
-
And don't forget to start with HL1 classic, or the Black Mesa: Source mod!
-
I don't just +1 this mod, I +10 it. It really is worth the download and makes HL2 look epic. When I have some holiday, think I'll relocate my PC to the front room and plug it into the TV! and re-download the mod.

Confirmed! ARMA3 moves into beta on the 25t June!!!! http://www.arma3.com/news/arma3-beta-available-on-june-25#.UcL-Tfk3B8F Not played the alpha in a while. Think I'll hit it up again this weekend.

Can't seem to connect to Capita's FTP site at the moment. Can someone give it a go to see if it's just me?

It also always seems to be that a lot of PC games are ported to console, yet not the other way round. Valve's Orange box for example, DayZ standalone I believe will be have a console, indie games like Minecraft, Terraria etc. Can't actually recall a Console game that was ported over to PC recently. Even GTA5, Isn't that going to be Console exclusive for 1 year? For a title series that made it's mark on the PC platform, it's annoying.
-
Not how I meant it. I mean it annoys me how some games are released as console exclusives. Having a specific game or series of games won;t encourage me to buy a specific console. It would be far better if all games were released on all platforms and cross platform play was implemented. Then everyone could enjoy any game on their platform of choice.
-
Console only games are annoying enough. Now asking PC players to beg for release to their (and ultimate) platform of choice is just rubbish. I remember waiting ages for Gears of War to come out on PC, and when it did, I loved it and the extra content. Then when I found out all follow ups would be Xbox only, it wound me right up.
