We transfer old work to DVD for archiving. I don't think DVDs last longer than ten years, but it's unlikely that any ex-pupils will want the work after two or three.

It's probably just concerns about legacy apps, but things do have to move along at some point.... As long as they can get native, or near-native performance using emulation then there's no reason to stay with 32-bit. Let's face it, applications like Photoshop and any video-editing tools need lots of memory to play in. I was playing Supreme Commander the other day, and that used a full gigabyte to itself on the large maps. With the price of memory so cheap, v-memory is old hat.

What's the usual cut-off after finishing university where you can apply for a graduate scheme. I finished three years ago, and the wage and benefits of just Network Rail sound pretty good. Enough for me to switch careers at any rate.

Cheers people. I don't think I'll delete the work outright just yet. Think I'll announce to people that all music files will be removed from the network after a certain date. As to the members of staff, if they want to keep any music, their departments will have to purchase external drives or somesuch to hold the media.

Using the wonderful Edusweep tool, it appears that a few users are keeping a fair amount of music in their storage area. Anyone know of the legalities of this?

Well after uninstalling a load of software (nero included) in safe mode, the problem now appears to be fixed. Cheers for the replies, all!

It's an 8E stop code, which predictably can mean pretty much anything. Apparently the issue started after installing Nero.

Have a machine that jumps into a BSOD anything up to a minute after login. It doesn't happen in safe mode though. What I'd like to do is delete all drivers, and restore them from the driver cache to see if this fixes the issue. Does anyone know the procedure for doing this? I have a BartPE disk, as I can't get to the recovery console as I get the BSOD when the install disk loads.

Windows is probably using the incorrect driver. Happens when you swap USB ports. You need to go into the hardware properties, and look to see if Windows has any Human Interface Devices listed that have the exclamation mark. If you do, go manually searching for the driver and it should list it. It's because it's not digitally signed and therefore Windows will use it's own driver first.

We're looking to build a new computer suite intended to be used for multimedia. The ideas so far are large widescreen monitors, beefy workstations to handle editing of video, and a HD projector and interactive whiteboard. I'm not looking for advice on the specifications of the devices, per se, but more along the lines of: Has anyone else done something like this already? If so, what issues were faced and how were they dealt with? Would we be better off with a projector and whiteboard, or a large LCD display? Cheers all. Was playing versus last night and it was ACE! Didn't realise that playing as infected was going to be so much fun. There's so much more to levels than you realise then when playing as the survivors. There's also more of a tactical element, as you have less health and have to time your attacks perfectly or be killed. Wall jumping with the hunter is also pretty cool.

Both my phone and laptop support Bluetooth version 2.0 with EDR. This means am maximum theoretical performance of 3mbps, but real-world along 2.1mbps. Therefore, I would expect my phone and laptop to communicate at 2150kbps (268KBps) or thereabouts, but instead the maximum I can get is 115kbps according to XP networking. Being able to download files at around 320kbps (40KBps) is a little puzzling though. Anyone know what's going on?

I've been playing the demo extensively over the weekend. So much so that when trying to sleep I keep imagining being on the receiving end of a zombie rush....

I think I may have to purchase a load of patch leads. Cheers for the replies all. The connectors are all new, though I've tried both old and new cable. It's either the crimping tool or connectors, methinks.

There's something odd going on that I'm having trouble getting to the bottom of. Every single cable I'm cutting doesn't work. I've cut hundreds of cables in the past, so I'm pretty sure it's not me being inept. I'll run through what I'm doing so that anyone else can jump in and call me thick: Cut wire to appropriate length. Trim half an inch of outer sheath off the end. Split cables into sequence: w-o, o, w-g, b, w-b, g, w-b, b Straighten up wires and trim off a few mm of the end so they're all the same length. Feed into connector and after a final check to see that the cables are in order, crimp. I'm experiencing different symptoms. Some computers will pick and drop the connection continuously, others won't see anything at all. Using a desktop switch (we don't have proper testers) the cables will sometimes light up, and other times not. Am I missing something glaringly obvious?

Our pupils enjoy the whole "let's unplug the mouse and then break the pins trying to put it back in" game. Is it technically possible for a computer to be aware of when a mouse or keyboard is removed from a ps/2 port? I'm working on an idea of an automatic notification system that will let me know when and where it happens. Thanks all.
