    Thanks for the reply Duke, I didn't try to mount that RDM into the Windows VM or box as I've just reformatted that partition with VMFS 3.33 I don't know why suddenly it went missing ?

    Hi All, I’ve just reformatted 1.44 TB LUN from my Dell MD3000i iSCSI SAN this was a Linux Ext3/FS RDM attached into one of my VM in on ESXi02 host, i did the following: 1. detaching the RDM from the VM 2. formatting it from the Dell SAN management software 3. present it to both host of ESXi01 and ESXi02 so that this new LUN can be shared together as VMFS. 4. Go to any of the ESXi01 or 02 settings and then add this datastore, format it with 8 MB block size and then make it available to both hosts by creating proper naming. Today suddenly it went missing without no apparent reason or error? I’ve patch both host few days ago and restart both host and the new LUN was still ok yesterday, but today it went missing so I had to reformat it again from the VCenter from Datastores view. I tried: 1. Rescan datastore – nothing appears 2. Refresh the datastore view from both hosts - nothing appears as well ? I wonder what was happening before and I couldn’t imagine if that new LUN got data in it ? i might be in deep trouble if so. Any kind of comment and suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.     Hi All, Can anyone share your success story regarding ITIL in your work place and how does it affect your daily life as IT professional ?     yes that's what I'm thinking now. The article does give a background idea of how BITS operates but it doesn't say anything or where to config to actually set the throttling speed ? If i set it up on the local GPO of WSUS server, i could not see the "Network Connections" under Administrative Template ?

    How to effectively limit the download speed of the WSUS update using BITS for my Server connection to the internet only? (Windows Server 2003 Std. R2 SP2 x64) Because according to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc720428(WS.10).aspx we have to configure it from the Group Policy Object. So if I do it from my GPO which is attached into my “Active Workstations OU”. It will only throttling down the download from my internal LAN WSUS server which is no need to be throttled down.

    ah yes, it turns out that the login that I use in proxy credentials doesn't like DOMAIN\User format therefor i must remove the domain information so that the proxy acccept the LDAP authentication. now it works fine and downloading approx 20GB+ of updates.

    Hi All, I'm having problem with my WSUS 3.0 SP1 server which i install in my Windows Server 2003 Std R2 SP2 x64 edition, it seems that the WSUS directory is always 0 KB (empty) even though the synchronization process still working every week. I've type the proxy credentials in the console Options | Update Source and Proxy Server | Proxy tab. and check the "Allow basic authentication" too. I've tried "proxycfg -u" comes back fine and it doesn't seems to work as the directory is still 0 KB in size. Can anyone shed some light in this matter please ? Thanks. AWT

    ah yes i do have WSUS, I've just added the auto approve for the KB968930 in the WSUS and it is now on queue with the asterisk symbol in front of it. I guess it's only a matter of time before it is all installed in all machine. Thanks mate !

    Hi All, I'd like to know how or what is the fastest way to deploy Powershell 2.0 from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/96892 company wide using GPO ? at the moment my GPO is consist of manually drag n drop of computer object into: Windows XP, Vista and 7 (all version 32 bit and 64 bit) --> Workstations OU Windows Server 2003 and 2008 (all version 32 bit and 64 bit non DC) --> Servers OU that's it only those simple categorization and I wonder how to install the correct binary into the target machine ? there are so many different installation files for each version of OS. I've got WSUS in place and it doesn't seems to be installed automatically into my domain ? Thanks.

    Hi All, I'd like to perform database application transactional and concurrent load testing which requires approx. 100 IP address in a single host (Windows Server 2003 box) so that one NIC can have multiple IP address. Is there any quick way (Powershell / NetSH) to create those IP address in one single box ? example: VM-Simulator1 - 10.2.1.1 10.2.1.2 10.2.1.3 10.2.1.4 10.2.1.5 . . . 10.2.1.102 VM-Simulator2 - 10.2.2.1 10.2.2.2 10.2.2.3 10.2.2.4 10.2.2.5 . . . 10.2.2.102 i know how to do it in Windows Server 2003 manually one by one but that's too daunting to do it manually. Thanks.

    Thanks SYNACK for the reply, Publishing the Remote Desktop Service access using TSG through SSL / port 443 sounds simpler and secure enough assuming the self sign certificate is installed in my workstation to connect into my server. cmiiw.

    Can we say that connecting to the Windows Vista VM or Windows 7 VM using old Win XP laptop covered by the VDA licenses is called VDI ? I wonder if that is the most common and valid deployment in using VDI with the VECD/VDA license.

    Hi All, I've just successfully setup ADSL2+ internet connection in my customer's remote site and I need to support and monitor one custom database application in that Windows Server 2008R2 Std. instance, I wonder what is the best way to achieve this without using 3rd party appliance or hardware ? Shall I just install Terminal Server Gateway (TSG) role in that server using self sign SSL certificate ? (access to that server using IP address). Any kind of comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi tcmd, yes it is sounds cheaper by paying the subscription only (assuming the bare metal PC use VMware view 4 ?) If we get Windows VECD/VDA then we dont need to have Windows7 as the OS ???. my understanding is that VECD/VDA is the full L+SA, meaning we dont have to have a full underlying OS on the device. VECD/VDA is all that is needed for a device not covered with SA ?

    @Soulfish: wow that sounds simpler and make sense. Today I spoke with my reseller to get the VECD/VDA license but then it seems they're not sure if the existing Windows 7 can be down graded into XP ? All i want to do is Virtualizing the old hardware (Windows XP only) not Windows 7 or migrating the license.

    LOL server with full of stickers on it :-) well as far as I know by using WIndows Server2008 R2 Data Center Edition we can deploy unlimited number of VM but that is only applies to all edition of Windows Server only. for Windows XP perhaps we can get http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Professional-32-bit-Builders/dp/B0018RCAD4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1269863234&sr=8-7 as it is brand new ?

    wow such a hard way just to virtualize the old PC hardware into a VM :-| Windows XP is no longer available to purchase even as a retail product so this is ging to be a bumpy road ahead. Thanks for the reply.

    Hi All, I'm planning to deploy Windows XP VM on my current VMware ESXi server and I wonder what sort of license do I need to use ( strictly one Serial number per VM ). This plan is for replacing all of the old desktop PC that is now used as test PC into Virtual Machine. When I contacted my Reseller, they said that Windows XP is no longer available all around the world so buying OEM Windows 7 license and adding VECD (Virtual Enterprise Centralized Desktop ) subscription is the way to go here. (URL: ) I heard that by P2V convert those old PC and attaching the OEM sticker on the server is not valid ? can annyone shed some light here please ? Thanks.

    You're right Wesley it is better to go with Open Office just for this small task. I wonder if it is OK to install MS Office in the normal Windows Server 2003 (no terminal service configured) so no more than two active session at one.

    Hi All, I'm having weird issue with some of my user Windows XP and some of them using Vista that they seems to lost their personal profile in their workstation the reason previously was the user taking too long in the "Applying computer settings..." therefore I manage to 1. login using local admin (offline) and then disable all of the startup items using MSCONFIG. 2. reset the AD domain passsword 3. the user login into the AD domain. and we were surprised that all of the settings are all gone ? back to the default (including outlook 2007 start to download the email from server again). and then when i look into the C:\Document and Settings i found out that there are two directories user --> was more than 300 MB user.DOMAIN --> newly setup so the size only 13 MB+ how can i go back to the old profile ? none of the user is using roaming profile. Note: single domain only. Domain functionality: Windows 2000 Native DC: Windows Server 2003 Std. x64 R2 SP2 Thanks, AWT
