I've seen this kind of thing happen before, generally it means that there is interference with the signal, connect to the router (via ethernet if possible) and change the channel from the default. You can use netstumbler/ministumbler to see what channels nearby ap's are using and select a different one. Bear in mind also that it's not just other wifi devices that can cause said interference. It could possibly be something to do with cookies not being set. Have a look in tools->internet options->privacy. test by allowing all cookies, or you could add your mail url as a trusted site. Matt

Aah, so i was right in the first place then. I did indeed then suffer the same difficulties as you, but went about fixing it in a different way. For future reference the way that i solved the problem was to connect to the mysql database, and update the 'admin' field for the relevent user from 0 to 1. Matt

I think i managed to botch this up when i setup LDAP with OOZ, Let me get a few things clear first so that i know what we're trying to do. You had a working administrator account, but alas no more, since you setup LDAP, yes? In that case, i think you need to have a fiddle with the users table in the mysql database, (just bind to it with the mysql client) and change your techie user to an administrator. (Don't think this bit applies) If you have a working admin account, you can go to control panel, and give other users admin accounts from there. Matt Edit: I may have gone completely over the top above having mis(read/understood). What i think you need to do is, 1) login as your techie user so that you can see them in the users control panel. 2) login as admin and go to the control panel 3) go to user options, search for the user, and change level to Administrator

Just repeat the last line and substitute "Year 1" for whatever folder name. matt

Just thought i'd let you guys and girls know about my recent experience ordering an internet connection for my new home, and recommend my choice supplier. I investigated the LLU status of my local exchange, and discovered that Easynet(Sky) and Be had enabled it for their products. Not too keen on the service that sky were offering (and having heard some bad things) I decided to go with Be on their unlimited package, £24/month with (upto) 24meg down and 1.3up! I phoned them last friday to order. The call was picked up immediately, (unfortunately in an indian call centre, but they do seem quite competent) I gave my phone number and was informed immediately that due to my distance from the exchange i would recieve a service of 6meg and be available in 1-3 weeks. We encountered a small problem with my postcode not being on their system, i was informed that she would process my postcode and address onto the system and call me back within 24 hours. Less than two hours later i got a phone call saying i could order on the phone now or online. I decided to do it online. Entered all my details and immediately got a text thanking me for my order and saying they'd keep me informed by text. I get a text that night at 1.30 am (fortunately i was still up) saying they expect to activate my service this thursday 8th, fantastic! Saturday night, again at a stupidly rediculous hour i get a text saying my modem/router is being shipped and to expect it between monday/wednesday. Modem arrives tuesday with more cables than i really need. Thursday comes and i get an email at 11 am, saying that i've been activated, wahoo! I rush home at lunch to test it, unfortunately i have no connection, and even more strangely no phone dial tone so i give them a ring. Again, get through to the indian call centre without waiting, they tell me that they think the engineer is still there and to try later tonight. Rush home, still not working ring them again, inform them that i can't connect, they ask typical support questions about connections and lights and run line test, they say there may be a fault on the line and that i have to call BT to arrange them to repair it. At this point i'm starting to regret ordering it, so i ring bt to report a line fault, go through their automated line checking system which finds a fault, they get a helpdesk operative to ring me back about 10 minutes later. Helpdesk man tells me that an engineer will need to revisit the exchange but the nearest time that can happen is tuesday 13th. I'm definately p**sed off now so go to work today upset and grumpy because i couldn't play with my toys. Anyway, midday today i get a ring from BT saying that they've been to the exchange and fixed the problem and are at my house waiting to test if it's working, i can't meet them so tell them i'll test it later. When i get home, i have a dial tone, so plug the router in wait patiently for the DSL light on the router to come on. Time has never passed to slowly..... but it did come on! Connected at 8meg down and 1.3 up, downloading solidly at 750K+ and up at 150K. So, in summary. Be offer a resonably priced service, their support is excellent considering it's offshored, and the LLU enabling by BT is generally working quite well. Definately a recommended supplier! If anyone is looking for a new supplier let me know, if i recommend you, you get free installation and 1 month free service. Matt

They are called Security (or TamperProof) Torx bits. We recently had to get some tiny ones T5 and the best deal we came up with was these from cpc. I believe the all-in-ones use a T10 or T15 bit. Matt

That's not strictly true Ric, many ISP's will only bond multiple of their own lines together, Nildram for example. However there are providers which will bond multiple lines from different providers. http://www.managedcomms.co.uk are one such company, they will even bond a mixture of adsl/sdsl lines. Normally it's a combination of ctrl+alt+[up/down/left/right] on the intel graphics chips. However sometimes you have to be logged in to do it. To disable go to display properties -> advanced and look for anything to do with hotkeys and disable it. Matt

Cheers for your input so far, but you seem to be missing the point. I'm aware of what i could run on a server in house or a dedicated box, that is my preferred solution. However, i need names of some suppliers that will provide a hosted webmail solution in order that i can pick holes in their offerings and make the in house solution shine through. Thanks again. Matt

I'm wondering who you guys use to provide web based e-mail in your schools, i've been asked to evaluate a few providers for tomorrow and googling around i can't find any suitable providers. Frankly, i'm not intrested in using webmail as i've already set up an internal postfix email server but the man with the money won't splash out on an internet connection which will allow it to be used externally. I just need to write a list and discredit them all i.e. the more expensive and useless your provider, the better. FYI we currently use RM Easymail plus and it is the PANTS. Matt

I'm not adverse to building something for me, but the "component research phase" usually chews up a fair amount of hours. Given I'm single-handed at the moment I can't really spend that much time checking out hardware for one workstation. You should be able to use the build in back/restore from within programs. Backup to an SD card and then restore when anything goes tits-up. Matt
