just point all your dns to your PDC and add an entry that is correct in the dns. Bodge but it will work. Then tell the PDC to forward requests to the proxy server if it cant resolve a lookup

for home use i use ifolders and a ubuntu server in NYC

if you have changed your hosting recently but kept your domain then the PTR record is out of date. Someone somewhere hasnt updated their dns. It could be your ISP or if you have another conflicting record on your PDC

In ie8 we have this problem where IE will not remember the username. You can make it remember the username and password (not ideal) but we want it to just remember the username :S it used to do this correctly in ie 6. Also when in ie8 on OWA we have this issue that means every time you click an email in the list after logging in you get asked for the username and password again.... Every time even if you save the password it still asks you to click ok :S Any ideas Squeeky

Hi, Quick question really. How do you backup sims ? the database is obviously in use so I need to stop the services?? and backup. I need to make sure this is working by the end of the day because you can never tell and we have just had a new server installed. Windows backup is running on the shared network drives but i dont think this is adequate for sims

the 2003 is set as a DC aswell ive just transfered the roles across (waiting on capita now). Ive disabled the role everywhere. With vista does the local policy also play a role ? because with xp and 2003 the roles just came from the server

Im having a spot of trouble with windows 2008 group policy. We have two servers in our domain a windows 2003 server and a 2008 server. The old 2003 server is being phased out and the only thing still running on it is sims. The problem i have is that when I setup the headteachers new computer and told her to set a password it tells me that every single password is not complex enough. Even if it is !!! also ive disabled the complexity rule in both the default domain policy (on both servers) and even created my own GP for the head teacher. In the end i had to manually set her password from users and computers and that worked perfectly. Can anyone help with this frustrating issue

I've got some vista clients connected to windows 2003 server. Im trying to deploy something via batch startup script but the vista clients seem to just ignore startup scripts. Is this correct ? is windows vista not going to allow me to do this from startup ?

Ive now got R2 - I found out our license was actuarly R2 but someone hadnt installed the second disk (muppets) Anyway is vista compatible with the print management console and gp ?

If you read the thread you can see that im using windows 2003 without R2 and that doesnt have a GP section for deploying printers. Normally i would use R2 or newer and that does support this feature. I would rather not individually change each GP on the laptops.

Id rather not do that. Is there anyway to do it via login script or automatically do the settings with regedit

I've recently started working at this school and the printers are deployed using VBS on windows 2003 (not R2). We recently got some laptops with windows vista on them (which is fine) but the problem is that A: I cant control alot of the policy settings in vista because the settings are totally differnt B: I cant add printers to the system because im not using R2 and there is no proper deploy in GP (vista isnt compatible with vbs printers) Thanks Squeeky

I went to the university of bedfordshire to do computer networking. However to get a job after university I had to have ALOT of experiance doing various computing tasks. For example I got a leg up from a relative who got me in at a school whilst I was at university to setup their entire infrastructure as cheap as possible. It went great and i learned along the way with challanges such as no DSL avalible due to distance from the exchange. I had also done summer work at other schools doing tech work. Now I have a job at a school in luton. The experiance is more important to me than the degree so look for anything to give you a starting hand, Maybe its a degree, Maybe its temporary work in IT, or maybe its just voluntary work in IT. PS i taught myself most of the stuff before I went to uni, the degree felt quite easy when you have an enthusiasm for it. I setup domains, virtual servers etc at home and learned how to use linux for content filtering etc. I just fiddled and googled stuff till i understood how it worked. PS 2. The university of bedfordshire was in the process of becoming a microsoft and cisco approved test center when i was there last year so that might be worth looking in to because then not only would you get a degree but you would get other certifications

we got a copy of backup exec as part of a server agreement. We have two servers that need backing up and the disks I have are Symantec Backup Exec 12 X64 - Obviously the software in 64but Symantec Backup Exec 12 X86 - Obviously the sofware in 32bit format Symantec Backup Exec Continuious Protection Server 12 (What the hell is this one ?) Also if we have a mix of x86 and x64 servers should i just use x86 on all of them ? Thanks Squeeky
