bishopsgarthstockton replied to Oops_my_bad's topic in How do you do....it?
Labeled? Whats that? *Nothing* is labeled here, well thats not strictly true, we have a "brilliant" system of labeling things 1-30 and then when we run out of numbers, go back to 1 and round and round lmao My network diagram is in my head roflmfao -

we have viglen here, we can manage the active directory from a web interface any where in the school. Works ok, but now again we have to do a IISRESET. Ideal if your at the other end of the school, and need access.

Had a phone call the other day from voicegroup asking me what software package we use to create our school website.. i told them that we use Dreamwever. they went to say that they had a web creating package that could help improve our website. I told her that we were happy with dreamweaver, and didnt require any other software. like a true sales rep she started to blagg my head, so i asked her to email me details about the package, and when I get 5 minutes i will take a look. this is the responce Dear Customer, Following our conversation today, here are a few examples of websites we have designed:- Milton Keynes College - http://www.mkcollege.ac.uk Parliament Hill School - http://www.parliamenthill.camden.sch.uk Walsall College - http://www.walcat.ac.uk The website package can be an excellent marketing tool to promote your specialist school within the community and help with raising its profile. * It has strong graphics, pre-set navigation, online video and audio technology facilities, all designed to your specification giving you an individual website. * The website can be easily updated by yourself or others with super user function. * The package is DDA complaint (it is now a legal obligation to make websites accessible to the disabled). As previously discussed we would be more than happy to visit you and show you a demonstration of the website package with no obligation. Laura Walker will contact you in the next few days. Kind regards, Hayley Gora Quality Manager Voice Marketing Ltd now in the email it says "The package is DDA complaint (it is now a legal obligation to make websites accessible to the disabled)." Now i know our school website is not the best, and i dont thinks its DDA compliant. so decided to look in to this further and found the folowing info at the website website has anyone dealt with voice group and more importantly what is the package. they havent emiled me any details about the package. Does anyone have any idea how to make there site DDA compliant? I just dont want to feel pushed in to buying crap software to abide by tyhe law when i could do my self with what we already have, and obviously improve the site. cheers

Hi, I would like to learn how to write vbs programs so i can automate tasks etc on servers and workstations. I have little programing experience, wrote the odd bat file but thats about it. Does any one know of a good book that could help get me started, or know of any free learning material on the web? cheers

where running on operating systems (such as AmigaOS) where memory may not be automatically released on termination, and if lost can only be reclaimed by a reboot sounds like same problem your having
-
ok just been reading a wiki about memory leak. is the server OS and installed apps all up to date. may be worth checking with software companys to see if they have recognized any memory leak problems and have a go at updating. I have never seen this strange problem before so would love to know what the outcome is

Just alittle off subject for a sec. but how do you detect a memory leak? cheers

Student drop box (homework folder) permissions
bishopsgarthstockton replied to ashdon's topic in How do you do....it?
Correct me if im wrong but when you share a folder on an NTFS drive you should give the shared folder everyone group full control and then setup the ntfs permissions, other wise you will get conflict. -

bishopsgarthstockton replied to ashdon's topic in How do you do....it?
Create 'teacher name' post box and set the following permissions for staff and students students write staff -Modify, Read & execute, List folder contents, Read, Write 'teacher name' owner of the post box -Full permission I suggest you set a folder quota on each post box this will force the staff to clear there own post box, saving you the time of having to go clear them your self. Also when the kids save the work, they will need to put the first initial and last name at the end of the file name, otherwise if a full class saves there science coursework as 'science courswork' and copys that file to the teachers post box, they will just overwite each others work. You can demon starte that to the staff when you show them. -
You will want to change all staff passwords
-
Youtube blocked here, if staff need a video, i will download it and make it available in the staff central resource library. as for broken head phones....'looks to his right and sees two brooken head phones... sighs..' Its a never ending battle

would probaby be intrested in buying one if the price is right
