It is but then so is Assimilate.

@Grumbledook When LP+ were in this week they were trumpeting Northamptonshire as a reference. How far through roll out is it? We are trying to get something to support our federation which is 8 secondary schools in South Lakes so collaboration is a big thing. Do you have any schools using it like that in your area? If possible it would be great to have a guest logon to a working implementation to see how it looks and what is on it. Cheers

Cheers guys. Very useful & full answers. Much appreciated.

We use the behaviour management part of SIMS. We use this to record a multitude of incidents from which we can produce letters.

I know this has probably been asked before but for a variety of complex reasons I am in a hurry for some views. 3 VLE choices: 1. LP+ 2. Frog 3. Ramesys - Assimilate Anyone with any experience of using these, I'd be grateful for your views on the products and the companies. Cheers

We have 5 mobile classrooms of 15 laptops and they are nothing but agro! To be fair we bought some RM Mobile One laptops and they seem to work well. At least they are ruggedised and you can force wireless always on in the bios. The others we have are regularly vandalised, keys picked off etc. We took them apart and broke the little tabs off behind the wireless button as they kept turning it off so now they stab right through with pens etc. I bl**dy hate them!

That's what I thought you meant. Odd really as I work in South Lakes and am on a higher scale as is at least one other NM in South Lakes that I know of.
-
Do you mean dicated by the county geographically or by Cumbria CC?
-
I would say it should. It's a while since I did our install but I know we needed to let students write to the c drive.

TIHBM.. trying to sort out census data on SIMS - pigging learning aims! I think I would prefer the bees!

What a strange and sad outlook you have.
-
Agreed - there are some bad guys in most industries and I certainly don't condone threating behaviour etc. but to label a whole group of people as scum seemed harsh to me (and yes I have had first hand experience of it!)
-
Sorry I have to object to that statement! So are creditors not entitled to attempt to get money back? The people I know in that line of work are honest, decent people just doing a job. Surely the "scum" (for want of a better word) are the people who think it is acceptable to run up massive debts then scarper leaving the cost to be born by the rest of us!

They can and they do. There was a fly on the wall series on a few years back about baliffs and they did just that - waited for people to come out etc.
-
2 of our site managers do this kind of thing - they bench rooms, partition class rooms, build walls etc.
-
You don't *have* to do anything, however I'd much rather make a couple of calls to let people know the score than have people turn up on my doorstep. Open the letters, phone the companies and they'll amend their records. Should ensure no more visits. Above all don't worry about it - it is not your debt or problem. ;-)

We did it on the basis that the previous year one of our discs just gave up the ghost and we ended up renewing it. When it got warm the following year I simply told the SLT that if we din't shutdown we risked some expensive damage. We shutdown, red tape disappeared, money was found an it was sorted. I think you need to make the point to your SLT that this isn't over dramatising the issue - kit can fail, be expensive to replace and the down time at a critical time of year (revision, exams etc) could be catastrophic.
-
We did that once - just shut the lot down for the morning. Next day we had a cooling solution installed.........funny that.

You didn't fancy Boris then???
-
Yes it does! You should sign up to postal voting - makes life lots easier. I voted days ago!
-
I have to agree with Tony here. Go along and spoil your paper if you like but at least make the effort to vote!

getting rid of ranger bar at log in screen
jcollings replied to Millsy79's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Uninstall Ranger and use vanilla systems ;-) -
You can get VGA connectors and solder them on yourself. We do it here sometimes. The other thing you could do is just cut a long VGA cable in half, push the end through then join the wires back together - again we've done this here.

Ilkeston School - Wondering who got the job of NM
jcollings replied to siuko's topic in Educational IT Jobs
At interviews we always ask if folks are still a firm candidate at the start of the interview. By that time they've had all the talks, meetings and tours of the school etc. I've only had one person pull out then. As a manager I'd rather someone told me then than wait til I'd decided I want them. Often I have had only 1 appointable candidate in a shortlist and it would irk me more if I offered them the job and they said no rather than pulling out early on.
