I think so, it would make sense, specially as it was more or less the end of the race and wasn't directly in anyones way.

We have a similar setup here for management. When staff log on they all get a mapped drive to the management share but only users listed in the security tab can access it. So far it is working well.

I've sometimes known a slight delay if there are mapped drives that the computer can not see. I suppose if it's an old laptop this could cause it to freeze.

I've used a cmd line program called QRES before also.

No I don't use deny, mainly because deny is higher than allow. So if a member of staff is in two groups then the deny permission takes effect. If you know that staff members aren't in more than one group you could use deny. Even with inherited permissions you would still be able to see them on that folder, they would just be greyed out. I usually just take out the everyone group and just list which groups need access. Hope this helps.

If 'Everyone' has full control this will be the case unless you use the deny permission on your staff group. Simply removing, say the modify permisison of staff wont work (AFAIK). Try removing the everyone group and see what happens. Hope this helps. Dan

Just had a look at the updated symbols for communicate in print and have discovered that 'Financial Crisis' has made its way onto the list, complete with its own little symbol. Along with 'Manchester United' and 'Social Website'. Made me laugh.

In ARD preferences there is an option along the lines of disable remote access whilst ARD is open. Sorry for the sketchy wording but I'm not at my mac atm. If thats enabled that may be stopping it. Also check in System Prefs > sharing and check that anything related to remote acces is turned on. If you require a more detailed run through let me know and I'll try to help. This should work. @echo off If exist c:\foldername echo %COMPUTERNAME% yes >> \\servername\share\list.txt If NOT exist c:\foldername echo %COMPUTERNAME% no >> \\servername\share\list.txt Save this as a .bat file and either run it as logon script or use psexec or similar to run it on a list of machines. That will create a list with the computer name followed by yes or no. leave out either one to either get a list of just machines with it or without it. Hope this helps, Dan

Hey all, Just after a bit of advice. What do you do with your old projector lamps/bulbs? I belive the old technician just used to throw them but it's my understanding that this is the wrong thing to do due to mercury content. All suggestions welcome. Are you trying to access previous versions that were created under server 2003? If so could this be the issue? Try (if not already) to create a new set in 2008. This is just guess work so feel free to ignore me

I belive so, on my network I have the client MSI deployed VIA gpo. Although all my clients are win xp. I'd be interested to know of you still have to do this in windows 7 as I'm looking to upgrade soon. Dan

We have about 30 Nintendo DS's in school and half the time they are not charged for lessons because simply, they are never put on charge. Does anyone else have these in school and how do you go about charging them? I've thought of something along the lines of a mini laptop trolley for them but this could cost alot of ££. Im not in school everyday so can not manage this myself so it needs to be simple enough for staff to use. Thanks, Dan

I've also known reason 0 to be the SQL service stopped. I think overall reason 0 is 'can not connect to database' for any of the reasons above.
