You are going to need an internet connection, as well as an entered proxy if your behind one. Also, a few FOG installs i have done, failed first time, simply running sudo ./installfog.sh again sorted this out.

Nope, can't get it to open explorer or IE.

no psexec \\servername simsbac.bat is the correct code, without a \ between them, as i said the code works fine when its psexec \\workstationname simsbac.bat it's just when connecting to the server.

This might souund simple and you may have already thought of this but... are you trying to ping with DNS name or IP address? If using DNS was your failed DC the only DNS server? If so, try pinging with the IP see if that works. Like I said this may be irrelivent but you never know Hope this helps, Dan

Hi all, Im trying to get psexec to remotely run simsbac.bat on one of our servers. I'm trying: psexec \\servername simsbac.bat and im getting: simsbac.bat exited on servername with error code 1. I have tried the same code but connecting to another workstation which works fine, it's just when connecting to the server. The same error occurs with any command including cmd. The firewall is off and I am using full admin rights to both the workstation and the server. Also running simsbac.bat on the server localy works fine so it't not the .bat file. Any thoughts any one? @Rabbieburns Yeah DHCP has been updated so DNS points to new server. @sted no they are viglen machines on 3com/netgear switch

I have just ran gpresult on a few other machines (windows 2000) and they are getting the policy from pcd (the new one) but are still not picking up all the policies. Thanks, It't too late in the day to start messing with roles, also alot of people are using the network at the moment, and If anything stoped working I would be hunted down. Hi, @maf_001 WestWaysPDC is the old server. Both servers are listed in AD sites and services and both have replication. @bottletop The network should be running at 100mbs (or there abouts) The speed is not classed as slow Thanks, Dan

Just ran gpresult on one of the 'offending' clients and I'm a bit worrid about this bit under user settings The following GPOs were not applied because they were filtered out ------------------------------------------------------------------- Local Group Policy Filtering: Not Applied (Empty) westways computers Filtering: Not Applied (Empty) clicker5 install Filtering: Not Applied (Empty) core software Filtering: Not Applied (Empty) What could be causing this? btw the above listed GPOs are all of the GPOs that are supposed to run attched is the full readout from gpresult. Hi, Thanks maf_001, I have checked all you said and they seem to be fine. Both servers have been running side by side for a few weeks now, I am only in once a week hense the time its took so far. It wasn't me who transfered the roles but the guy who did knows what he's doing and I'm pretty sure he moved all 5 across. GPOs seem to be there and identical on each DC but client are not picking them up. Any more suggestions? lol Thanks, Dan

Right here goes, this is a long one, and I'm fresh out of ideas...HELP! We have recently purchased a new server as the old one is getting old. since installing the new server any new client joined to the domain has not picked up the group policy settings, it does however pickup logon scripts and user's home folder etc. Also some of the older clients still point to the old server for certain things, such as network desktops, occasionaly the old computers will point to the correct places but sometimes will not, this is very intermitent. Servers are Server 2003 and clients are 2000/xp new machines are set up with XP and the old clients that aren't working are mainly 2000. I have checked DNS and the group policy settings and everything looks ok. pinging the domain results in the new server IP, all scripts and file paths have been changed to reflect the server that they are on. And I'm out of ideas so anything is welcome. Cheers, Dan

I'd agree to try this first as it's much quicker than chkdsk, and i've also come across this, mainly on HP laptops.

Boot up from a XP install cd and press r when prompted to enter the recovery console (not repair installation). Follow the prompts to select the disc and username/password. Then at the prompt type chkdsk /r and press enter. Let that run through (can take ages), reboot and see if that works. Hope this helps, Dan

we use spiceworks ( Spiceworks - Free Network Monitoring Software for Network Management ) any computer/printer attatched to the network is automatically picked up and added to the database, you only then need to manually add monitors, usb printers and anything else you wish to add to the database. You might have to have a look in each folder and get info on each folder see if that brings up anything. On our server for example if you get info on top folder it says 3Gb yet a folder within it it 10Gb. So have a look in some folders see if that brings anything up. Hope this helps, Dan

Even though the user profiels are on a different volume it could still be the same problem, just with different files. Short term if you just want to copy a file/folder to the server via ARD, when you click manage and copy items there should be an option of where to copy it to (default current user's desktop) you should be able to select a custom location from the drop down menu, ive added a screenshot of the screen. When you highlight folders in Mac and get info it doesn't count files you don't have permissions to, these will mainly user's home folders (if you have them stored on your mac server) as the Administrator account doesn't have full access to the user's files. So to sum up, it might say you only have used 15Gb but there's a good chance your drive is actually full. Hope this helps, Dan

Hi all, in one of the schools I work at they have a few RM Ones, in one in particular the DVD drive has broke and I need to replace it. The problem is the alan key fitting is one of those security ones, the kind that require the alan key to have a small hole in the end so it fits. Does anyone know where I can get one of these from? It seems a shame to replace the whole unit when a dvd drive is (normally) easy to replace. Thanks, Dan

I know it's pobabley not recomended but we have over 100 macs with no anti virus and (touch wood) haven't had a problem yet

Are all your machines up to date with windows update, we had a problem with the conficker/downadup virus, it switches off the Automatic updates and BITS service on the local computer, try running a virus scan and have a look in the services to make sure both of these are running.

I agree personally written reports are a lot better and are, as they say, personal. But unfortunatly It's not what is better, most if the time it's what is easier. I have knocked together a little access database that will be eaiser to use than the word option (which is currently organised by subject...don't ask). Again the idea of the software is just to provide a more organised, easier way to type/print the report as opose to using set phrases etc. Thanks for all advise, Dan
