Thanks Bio, of course you are right if all the ports are on VLAN1 therefore no matter what I do broadcast will get everywhere! I remove port 5 from VLAN1 and added to VLAN2, togegher with ports 9-21, but I coudn't connect to the servers, is it 100% sure that I need a router or layer 3 device to connect to VLANs?? I reckong I have to read a lot more aobut the subject!

Dear All, I don't know much about Vlan and I am trying to configure my first attempt at my work place, so please forgive me is I sound clueless in my configuration. We are a school with lots of broadcast. A DGS-1224T works very well as our core switch, and after reading the example on the asymmetric Vlan configuration is the switch I have configured the switch with the following vlans: http://www.nazaudy.com/Technology/images/capture.jpg 01) I haven't touch the default vlan at all, so all the ports are members. 02)ports 1 and 3 are members 03) port 24 is a member I have also made ports 9, 11,13,15,19 and 21 (where ours servers, services and internet router is connected) parts of the three vlans. This configuration works very well and computers in each of the vlans can't see each other (can't ping to each other) which presumably will improve the traffic. However, when running wireshark on one of the vlans, it still detects the broadcast generated by the computers in the others vlans, and I have been told broadcast is bad for a network! Shouldn't the vlans prevent the broadcast among themselves? Should I tag ports to achieve this? Thank you very much for any kind advice you can give me on this.

Hi guys, I'm an amatour, doing a bit of dreamweaver and flash have supporter my school website for 3 years now. This is not part of my job description and I'm paying off my salary being told to do the job outside school hours. Can you imagine? I agree. Every time there are serios problems with SIMS, Capita logon remotely to our server and fix the problem in front of the person who created/affected (exams officer, attendance manager, etc). Nothing to do with the techinal guys anymore. We only ensure that SIMS is correctly installed on the comptuers, and nothing like Capita who actually created the software to support it. Their support is not cheap, but you do breath on relieve when they fix the mess within hours.

wow! the best one you could ever try is Terabyte Unlimited Image for DOS, just buy it! I used to use Acronis, Symantec and such, all time-consuming-click-click-pray-pray. With Terabyte I boot the laptop from a flopply memory stick emulator and create a backup on a additional hidden partition on the latop or a portable drive. Have used Terabyte for a couple of years and not a single corruption I've found, is just such a great program. And no,no, I don't work for them at all. You are right, wmware is better. Download the workstation from here []VMware Workstation 7.0 and create the two virtual machines that you need. If you want to connect them to a separeate virtual network from your PC, on the Network Adapter properties of each virtual machine specifie the virtual network tht you want them to belong. You can create virtual networks using the Virtual Network Editor program. If you want to connect them to your PC, set them toe "Bridged" and ensure you got the "VMWare Bridge Protocol" ticked under the network properties of your network card Hope it helps.

You can do an ASR backup of the server and then restore on a virtual machine, basically copying the identity and use it for testing

Had a similar problem, and at the end we bough sticky trunking and celotaped the cable inside, to remove it you have to open the trunking and undo the tape, that sort of solved the issue.

experience first, right, we all agreed, but that is not enough. To stand out you need to also have a minimun number of qualification, a least a MCP or something related to the field you want to progress to. Get a decent hardware, install VMWare and get your virtual network in house, do it and re-do it again. In my humble opinion experience and qualifications are not rivals, they are like bread and butter! ey guys, I know this post is 3 years old, but I've got exactly the same problem as described by maniac: my non-domain laptops cant' authenticate to our WPA-TPKI wireless network, how do you fix it? I have manually imported the certificate from the trusted CA into the machine, but the IAS still gives access denied to the non-domain laptops saying that the specified user account does not exist (I'm using machines authentication only) Any help you could provide will be greatly appreciated, this thing is driving me mad!!

I'm having major problems with a WX3024 we bought recently. Trying to attach to it a AP9152 on fit mode and the AP reboots all the time. The WX someone sees it because it pushes the fit module to the AP every time it starts, but then on the web interface of the WX, the AP appears as off and I can't manage it. This is driving me crazy. Already got a call open with 3Com but they still havent' reply back. Have you guys had similar problems configuring unified 3com wireless?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

How many of you are upgrading to CC4 this summer? I guess RM are very busy this time. Please, let's add the numbers as we comment on this thread I am number one.

We had a smilar desicion scenarion not long ago and decided to pay the premium and get CC4. The big cost of upgradign to CC4 are the licenses, but you also get for what you paid, peace of mind on my case and the fact that I dont' need to worry about for example in digging the GPOs of the DC to setup the members of a department who want to have the IE history kept for 10 days and not for 2, for example, with Type Manager is deadly easy. You can't dismiss that, by choosing a vanilla installation, you are putting all the burden on your shoulders of configuring the network, create software restriction policies and ensure the security of the workstations is sealed (only admin should be able to run exe, disable temp folder and such). All these can be achieved usign vanilla mode, but is much harder and surely more time consuming. RM in the long term pay off, specially is you are thinking on leaving your post in the future, or retaring: how are you guys documenting the vanilla network you have been supported by years?
