Got a QNAP 8 x 2TB as a repository for Veeam, configured as RAID10 giving us 8TB of redundancy storage. For nearly a year of usage no problem, but I'm wondering now if I should configure it as RAID6, thus giving us 12TB of still redundancy space, 4TB more to backup that will come very handy Should I be bother to reconfigure? I take it RADI6 will be slower to write, but considering the backup take place off production hours, who cares if it needs a few more hours to finished? I originally chose RAID10 as the word 'parity' give me the itch after a fight lost with some RAID5s. What would you do?

Hi fellows, I know this thread is like more than a year old, but I thought I give it a refresh as I’m considering purchasing thin client for our network and the HP T410 sounds like the ideal candidate. We have a couple of Terminal Servers with different printers/software installed on them, will this HP T410 thin client allow us to choose to which TS we want to connect to? Will it also remember the selected connection for future bootings? Any advice you guys can give me will be much appreciated Thanks

On the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup we put a shortcut pointing to a batch file (name regpro.bat) located in the folder C:\Program Files\PTC\ProDESKTOP 8.0\Program prod.exe /regserver Configure the shortcut in the Startup folder to run minimized. The result: the program get register when a teacher or admin (not student) logs on and the extrude work for us. I know, I know, the batch file will run every single time somebody logs on, but it will do it minimized and for me it did the trick

I just have to confirm what the majority is saying: my impression is that they have a specific focus in active teaching and learning and a hunger for finding out results Day 1 has passed and no direct contact whatsoever. Have been a long-hours day but extremely quiet. Me and the technicians have been most of the time in the IT office, watching the walls (and the goals of yesterday’s match Barcelona-Madrid) and only leaving to fix specific problems and come back again to our cave. They are four inspectors and they're interviewing teachers and students as they go along. Not sure if tomorrow I’ll get a knock in the door, probably not!

Yet again another order to place that will further shrink the budget for IT: ink and cartridges consumption is just madness Have an original quotation for original ink and toners for HP and Brother Models against a substantially cheaper quotation of Xerox made products and I have my reservation. In the past we used recycled cartridges and they are just awful. Have you fellows experience Xerox consumables? Any hint in the ink would be an appreciated wink ;-)

Firmware upgrade on the switches?? Long time ago we had a similar problem, it drove me mad for days! All it was we bough a brother printer that was generating spikes of broadcast storm on the POE switches, could you believe it? Nothing was directly connected to the switches and computer where we had the DCHP problem, yet on a network (as you all well know) everything is connected to evething. On my case a firmware upgrade to the POEs fixed the issues, good luck!

Is anybody using Parental Link for Fronter? https://parents.lgfl.org.uk/secure/login.aspx We want to move away from SLG and have tried to set up this Parentat Link alternative for months now but it doens't work, passing the ball between LGfL and Fronter, accounts don't show up, parent's cant logon and everything is just static Do somebody has this system working? oh dear! Good luck with that At some point we tried to do the same thing but it never worked. The closest we got was to get a CC4 PC already built with all the packages and such, remove it from domain, rebooted and the rest and then take an image from it using terabyte, then restore that image on another PC, change the comptuer name and run SmartClient from the restored PC... We never got it working fully ;-)

We have CC4 with 4 x VLANs (3 for each one of the school buildings + 1 VLAN where all the VMs are connected). I used a HP 2910 to do that, making all the vlans /24 apart from a particular building where is /23 du to big numbers of PCs and labs we have. Broadcast is not an issue anymore and the PCs can breath on their own subnet CC4 works well on VLANs but (and it is a big BUT) the build disk would be unable to find the DHCP server outside its subnet. We solve this problem by creating an individual DHCP server on each one of the subnet. I did that with a single ESX host with 3 x nic, one for each vlan Hope this brief explanation helps

Upgrading all cabling to the standard 1Gb is a must, and adding the 10Gb to the server backbone as you are planning is an extra benefit, a big hit on the budget though, but if you can afford go for it. Remember however that at the end it is all down to the disk, and sometimes it may be worth upgrading the server I/O throughput rather than the switches where it connects. There is no point of having a 10GB if the servers cannot deliver from the disk And well, I take for granted that you are using VLANs? I assume you network is segmented, separating desktop traffic from wireless; if you are going to have initially 500 wireless devices you may as well split them in two vlans if possible to optimise traffic. On one of my research I found out that many networks are congested with broadcasts and unfiltered traffic, and network managers tend to buy more powerful switches with bigger bandwidth and faster processors just to cope with the congestion instead of tacking the source of the problem that initially could be a lack of vlans to filter traffic or an inadequate disk base I/O from the servers Just a bit of advise, that’s all
