they called me, but it wasn't for tech support. Dodgy jokes aside, if you don't need specific software, I would try SimpleMEPIS and Linux Mint
-
I think OS/2 Warp is the best OS for you
-
The only thing they understand is witholding payment and leaving. As a hint, the people you are dealing with are not passing any problems up the chain, you will have to contact the regional manager yourself.

DB> i assume this is Regus? They did that to me too. Shown 2nd floor office with view over a garden, and then get a smaller ground floor office with views of the bins in the alleyway (so no light)

Doesn't help that when demand on the train network increases due to more people using it, instead of dropping the cost or adding more carriages, they just increase the price to get people back off the trains and into cars.

Compared to buying a mondeo for £300, insuring it for £200 and taxing it for £185, which works out at £2.60 a day plus fuel the train and bus is vastly overpriced.
-
Yes I need to include the cost of service, tyres, in-sewer-ants, oil and VED, but this would already be purchased whether I was using it for public transport or not (well, the tyres would wear out slower but anyway). I COULD buy a mondeo for £300, insure it for £200 and tax it for £185 and that works out at £2.60 a day. Then just buy another one instead of fixing problems and tyres are only £30ea.

If I didn't want to use my car (which would be great as the 3hrs/day is getting to me now) I could use the train. Lets have a quick comparison. I would have to get up at 5am quick shower rush out the door and walk an hour to the trainstation to get the 6:20am train which arrives at 8:30am and then walk 5-10min to work. Or I could get up at 6am, have a long shower, eat some toast, read the news, and eventually leave some time before 7am to get there by 8:30am and then for the return the train is at 6:20pm so Id have to hang around work for an hour. The train gets to my station at 8:30pm and then I have a 1hour walk home. My day is long enough as it is, but 5am to 9:30pm would tip me over the edge. And the cost for this fabulous service? £23 a day with a season ticket. Currently it costs me ~£15/day in fuel and £5.40 for the bridge. I think I will stick with my car thank you. And another thought, even if every person in the company used public transport, the company would still be charged for the parking spaces, so it's not going to encourage people to use public transport at all.

the dell was with a 4hour SLA, RAID6 for HDD redundancy and acting as a SAN (so block level only) to one server acting like a single internal RAID. It would also work with other servers if you set up the LUNs but I was only interested in one server for D2D2T so I haven't looked at it in detail. It'll also daisy chain to 2 other MD1000s to give 90TB total, if sticking to 2TB drives. Other than acting as a NAS (which you could do using the OS) what benefit does it have? Is it a fully stand alone server with Solaris on it? I'm trying to get lots of options together for the new year, but at 6x the price it's a bit steep as an option.
-
silly question, are you SURE it was THAT machine it was saved onto and not a different machine or onto a shared folder?
-
$35k!? for the unit and 46x 1TB SATA2 drives? I was looking at Dell SANs the other day for D2D2T backup (need ~25TB) and for the unit with 15x 2TB drives, which are 3x the price of 1TB Drives (not bought from Dell mind) it was going to cost ~£5k

Ah nice one, how are you finding it for installing across the network? Does it work with XP and Vista? any problems yet?
-
Has anyone tried this yet? I'm possibly doing the same as the OP, but if it's going to be a complete resource hog I would rather avoid. Misco who are the previous providers of Sophos here are trying to get us to change over as they've fallen out and we've been offered just under £12 a licence for 3 years for this product. Anyone used it yet?

2 things. 1. that rule stops spammers 2. ESXi is a bare metal system. he'll be after VMWare Server Free

off the top of my head I think the Snap Servers and QNAP NASs were the best, but this was 2+ years ago
-
I would never buy any netgear NAS devices, especially not for business use. There are much better devices out there. If you can't use FreeNAS for warranty reasons then look at enterprise grade NAS devices with good DR reviews. There are alot of really cack ones out there that you are completely unable to recover from if the unit fails
-
If the unit fails there is a high chance you'll lose the data (or ~£3k for recoving the data). If ONE HDD fails and you catch it you'll be fine
-
I used to be a Data Recovery Engineer. Lots of experiance.
-
DO NOT expect to ever recover any data off them when they fail, make sure you have backups of whatever is stored on there.

bit late, or are you just teasing people? "Closing date for applications: 9.00 am on 20 July 200"

Win3.11 was my first introduction to windows and quickly upgraded to win95 on my IBM Aptiva 486 DX4 100MHz, as I had previously only used DOS for AutoCAD and was primarily an Amiga Workbench user.
