LOL we managed to stear ours round to sticking with a windows mobile based device... much easier to setup and make work :-) also... its only a matter of time before more and more staff want there emails on there phones!!!

ok this is quite interesting in the Word doc on this page, it says: Point and Print Security on Windows Vista so this may mean until my print server is upgraded to 2k8 this may not actually work, and it also looks like I need point and print drivers, which may be difficult for my Photocopiers..

Another Win7 issue Set the policy to use local profile only we get for standard users Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded when they log in during the Personalized settings. it only does it the first time the user logs in. if we leave the mandatory profiles on it obviously does it every time. I'm not to fussed going to local profiles only we use them a lot in certian rooms as this we find works faster from logon 2 onwards. Anyway can't find any way of getting rid of this message or simply uninstall windows mail as we use outlook. anyone got any ideas.

DPM is worth a look for sure! you can have a upstream DPM server too that could be off site not got that far yet though, I've just got an on-site dpm box at the moment. Especially since the educational price is next to nothing.

quick way to get to your send to type shell:sendto in to the address bar... dead usefull for pasting custom shortcuts in like notepad and wordpad and photoshop etc..

you aught to alert your local wragg though, pcs like that aren't essential to do his job. the news guys probably won't get / know that they were gaming type machines from the receipts..

you could try using File server Resource manager File Screening to block the writing of desktop.ini ?

can't you download them from the website i got the most recent one a while back and it let me upgrade my workstations that were last updated a year ago?

What i dislike about PR is that you tend to get even more of a disconnect from the politician and the people. as PR inevitably has to have a much larger electorate that many people then represent. so the relationship naturally becomes less close, for example i bet you stand a good chance of knowing your mp but probably couldn't name even one of your previous meps. at least with first past the post / winner takes all you get one vote and you vote for a person. i really don't like voting just for a party. For example in this European election i voted conservative (needless to say) and we got three of our MEPs in, but had i the chance i wouldn't have voted for the three that got the place. the person at the bottom of the list would have got my first vote because I know her well and know she would have made a good job, however being sixth on our party list she never stood a chance of getting in. this leads onto another issue that I'm not overly happy with in the PR system used in Europe, which is that we politicians and party members get to rank the candidates (effectively deciding amongst ourselves who deserves to goto Brussels.) then the voters only really get to vote for the party not the candidates. it was always inevitable that we got two of the six seats so we knew that the 1st and 2nd ranked person on our list was going to Brussels, in this case we managed to scrape a third. Its the same for the other parties they know the approximate share of the vote they will get and therefore how many seats they are likely to get. I think the other interesting thing that the Euro / Local elections have shown is the difference or indifference that the PR system has, in the Local elections people are upset with labour so almost all the county councils changed to Conservative which will give a noticable change of direction in policy there, where as with the PR system despite them doing so badly they don't loose as many seats and the actually make up changes marginally if this was echoed at a national level i suspect you would get a less effective government as no one would have a working majority to get on with the mandate that they put up and the people voted for. Just my 2p worth... and i hope it gives you a bit of an incite into how the the PR system selection works. Gordon

a totally shamless bump.... democracy is important... and today is polling day.... it takes like 2 mins to vote.. and polls are open from seven am till ten pm so plenty time to pop by on the way too or from work

i know which way I'm voting actually spend all of thursday not at work but knocking on doors and say please come out and vote!

i did this through the group policy software restrictions basically set the Software Restriction Policies/Security Levels Default Security Level Disallowed so that all exes and things like VBS are disabled And then under Software Restriction Policies/Additional Rules Path Rules setup rules that allow things through c:\Program files (x86) Security Level Unrestricted Also include all you logon server shares etc.. (so that VBS and CMD scripts can run) the windows directory!

Nick did you fix this or end up rebuilding your exchange box?

can i suggest you try NSlookup open cmd window type nslookup it should jump on your primary DNS server. (your internal one) otherwise type server ip.ip.ip.ip then just type mydomain.local see if thats resolving ok... I had a problem ages ago with a 2K3 server where i turned the firewall on and the DNS Server service was blocked D'oh. had to open the ports...

Might be a bit off left field here... (not something a Tory says too often lol) someone mentioned IPSec, and I know they use domain certs to authenticate with each other, so i was thinking is it just possible that the servers computer certificate has expired and its unable to get a new one... not really sure where I'm going with this... bit just a thought.. maybe in the AM with a clear head I could say more eloquently.

I take it other VMs on the Hyper-V server are still ok?

What about bringing the VHD up on another Hyper-V server?
