We once had a member of staff purchase two laptops from a company because they were on special. However, I could have bought two laptops for the same price from saveonlaptops.co.uk which had more memory and dedicated graphics. I was annoyed but there wasn't anything I could do due to the way we are organized.

Get in there!! Got a speedy response from LEA and they gave me the ip address of one of their servers andbish bash bosh, job done. Now our network is running by GMT.

Have you tried checking to see what mode your SATA controllers are set to in the BIOS? Basically older Windows discs (pre-SP3) may not work if the SATA controller is not set to legacy (which is sometimes called native?) mode.

Just out of curiosity (I may have missed something) but why does your router dish out IP addresses and not a DHCP server anyway? Surely it be better to have DHCP handled by a server and stop the router from dishing out addresses? That way things would be more flexible and controllable.

Ah yea LEA internet. Will ping an email off and see what they say. Thanks @jamesfed never really thought about that. I guess it'll be a security issue, read a bit about NTP servers being insecure and people using them for naughtiness.

I've been asked to make sure the clock on our PDC has the correct time. So my thoughts were to simply sync it to and external time server, for example uk.pool.ntp.org. Unfortunately neither my office machine nor the PDC can communicate with it. I have also tried numerous other NTP time servers that I've come across while Googling for a solution. Issuing the following command: w32tm /stripchart /computer:uk.pool.ntp.org /samples:5 /dataonly Gets me: Tracking uk.pool.ntp.org [80.87.128.243:123]. Collecting 5 samples. The current time is 12/09/2011 13:04:04. 13:04:04, error: 0x800705B4 Which indicates there is clearly no communication with the specified time server. Any ideas?

How Fallout-esque is it? Got into Fallout 3 before and loved it, getting back into Oblivion now as well. Soundslike a fun game and with it being out on PS3 too, I may splash the cash and buy it if it's good.

This is very true. They're awful and plasticky but it had to be done, I was desparate and had very little money.

Was gonna say Hush Puppies. I however am too cheap/poor to buy proper shoes so I normally only ever replace my shoes with cheap nasty jobbies from the Shoe Zone or somewhere like that and I only ever do that when they're totally fudged. I think I'm about due for some more at the moment as mine have stretched through usage. Seeing as it's getting later on in the year, I may invest in some boots.

Just me that thinks that sounds a bit wrong then? Lol. Quality.

How to setup a ftp server?
DAZZD88 replied to fredted40x's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Depends if their end goal is to have something accessible externally, at least that would be my assumption. -
What OSes are on your DC and your client machines?

Is it just me thinking that Google waste too much time on designing a new logo? I just can't see the point. Yeah sure, Halloween and Christmas as they're special occasions for many people but why all the seemingly random special logos?

Sounds like you need to set a static IP and browse into your router. Basically, sounds like your router may be borked/duffed/shafted etc... How old is the router?

Try going to your PDC and running the command to make it know it's a trusted time source and then the clients should start syncing up and if not then you can manually tell them to discover a time source (which will be your PDC). I did it not so long back here when we realized that the timing for our door system was off by 5 minutes (it's controlled by a machine on our network). I can't remember the command exactly, something like w32tm and then your switches and parameters.

Lord of the Rings Blu-ray: Extended edition is finally out
DAZZD88 replied to ZeroHour's topic in General Chat
Say what now? You mean even though they're blu-ray discs, I have to change the disc halfway through the film? Was in two minds whether to bother with LOTR, the novelty has kind of worn off for me, but I think this decides it. -
Did anyone else notice what Mark Webber said on the grid? I can't remember what it was exactly but he made a comment that I took to be related to the Sky and F1 deal.

[android] Just installed Cyanogenmod 7.0.3...
DAZZD88 replied to DAZZD88's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
None in particular but doubt I'll bother trying it after seeing 7.0.3 in action. I think one of the big things is that I prefer a Sense based ROM as well. Doesn't mean I won't ever try Cyanogen in future or another ROM like NeoPhyte. -

DAZZD88 replied to DAZZD88's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
That's true. I may well go back to the stock ROM, it just worked. Might give the latest LeeDroid a bash too. Found a pack on the Leedroid page on XDA that apparently has Sense V3. If I understand correctly, I can go back t stock and download then install that. Best of both worlds maybe? -
I wouldn't but then again I don't pay for Sky Box Office movies. I refuse to pay (my mother pays it but let's not split hairs here) anything other than basic subscription costs and TBH I think some of the crap that's on Sky, I don't even think that the basic costs are really worth it anymore. When I move into my own house, I very much doubt I'll actually bother with a TV anymore, except for using it for DVDs and as a huge computer monitor.

[android] Just installed Cyanogenmod 7.0.3...
DAZZD88 replied to DAZZD88's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I've worked out how to get it back now. Still think it's blooming useless. One reason why I switched from LeeDroid to Cyanogen was to see whether the MMS settings were working as I couldn't receive picture messages. I think I'll wait til I get home and go to bed and cry. Today has been awful. -
@localzuk if that's the case, then where do they stop with axing the 'mass appeal shows' (as you termed it)? If these shows are watched by a minority market and therefore most likely losing money then why not axe them to save money rather than axing things that make money? You're probably gonna say that it's because the BBC's goal is to broadcast shows that otherwise wouldn't get broadcast (unless you were referring this point to my argument over axing BBC4, maybe?). I would think that although F1 costs a lot of money to produce, it would think it cancels that out by the revenue it brings in.

And have you had any of the issues that I've mentioned? Maybe I did something wrong but I don't think so. I had none of these issues with LeeDroid (with either of the versions I tried). -
They could look at some of the other tripe they show and fund, rather than something that brings in millions of viewers each episode/show. How's about axing BBC4? I still have no idea what that channel does as it's never got anything on worth showing> Why not combine BBC3 and BBC4 into one channel and have it air all day?

Not impressed. So far it's wiped all the contacts off my SIM (leaving me contactless but a good advert for using Google Contacts), my text messages won't restore via Titanium backup, the screen unlocks via pressing any button (seriously, what use is this?) and also the little dock thing at the bottom keeps disappearing and I've no idea how to get it back without restarting the phone. After the news about F1 and the debacle with my phone, I'm ready to tear someone to pieces. Anybody else got 7.0.3?
