Virtualbox link doesn't seem to work

mmm... My clean machine was not made using the new virtualbox 3.0. If it's getting stuck on scanning drivers, maybe version 3 is using different drivers. I'd recommend making up a vanilla xp machine. Install the Virtualbox 3.0.x guest drivers. Then use Portable DML (link) This will grab the drivers in a format that you can then move into your XPBuild folder (/RMManage/RMRebuild) If that doesn't work. Then try making Vanilla XP Machine again install the guest drivers then make it into a CC3 workstation via the SmartClient process.

It's good. I used to have a vanilla XP machine but I decided to go ubuntu at work. Regarding Virtualbox and RM. It works very well. I have a standard RM Workstation and I have a virtualbox RM Clean Machine for making packages. Take a snapshot when the machine is clean and you can go back to a clean state in about 10 secs. Great for making RM packages!

another vote for Ubuntu I use Ubuntu at work and home and use Virtualbox for all my RM and Windows needs.

the key on the network share worked when I installed it on the first teacher machine. i setup the network share exactly for the reason you stated. But when I installed the software on the second teacher machine and pointed it to the network share i got message as stated in my first post.

copied the key to local folder and it worked. Thanks

both machines point to the same network share. They don't have the key locally.

I'm currently trying to install iTalc on to a teacher laptop. I have been success in installing the client on the student machines and already install the master application on another machine so I know that the msi packages I've made work fine and iTalc as a whole works. The keys for iTalc are located on a share on the network that everyone has r/w access to. The problem I have is after I install the package and try to load up iTalc master program I get the following error: iTalc service not working: There seems to be no iTALC service running on this computer or the authentication-keys aren't set up properly. The service is required for running iTALC. Contact your administrator for solving this problem. There is a balloon that popups up as well saying: Somebody (IP: 127.0.0.1) tried to access this computer but could not authenticate itself successsfully! Has anyone else had this problem? I checked that the service is running and it is. And the machine is authenticated to see the public key in the share. And reg entry is pointing to the correct place. This is really annoying because I have another machine with same setup and it just works.

I used XBMC a little bit but I then moved on to Boxee.net which I think is much better. Alot more modules come with it. What kind of thing are you looking for XMBC to do?

Its ok. I found the solution. I found what I needed in User Types under Configuration Settings in RM Management Console.

We are currently on RM CC3 network and have some laptops on Vanilla XP. Problem I have at the moment is that when a students logs into the Vanilla machine they are getting a start menu that was populated by the RM system. So therefore there are shortcuts on there that are not actually on the machine. There are no shortcuts from All Users on the local machine shown. We have been ok so far because programs like MS Office have been installed in the same location in Program Files as what they are on a CC3 workstation so the links have worked. What I now have is a package that I want on the laptops but is not installed on the RM CC3 system. So the shortcut has not been added to the students profile start menu. I have tried Redirecting the students start menu to a folder on the network but that really screwed up the RM CC3 start menu. What I'm after is a way for students to login and see a start menu that is local to that Vanilla workstation. I've had a look round Group Policies but can't see a way of doing this. Hope that someone else has had this kind of problem and found a solution.

Cheer Gerry. iTalc seems really good at the moment. I'm currently installing it on a classroom of laptops that are not RM CC3, so yet to see how bandwidth is when viewing all the machines over wireless. I like the way you can centralise the configs to a network share so that teacher machines access the same config file. Very easy to adminster. So far it gets a big thumbs up from me

Quick question: What are you using for Classroom Monitoring (ie. viewing what students are doing on computers) We currently have RM Tutor for our CC3 machine but we have a growing number of machines that are vanilla. Hope to use a Open Source system. Any suggestions?

I've answered my question now. Found this handy RM article TEC1434450 Used a Kingston 512MB stick and it worked But on an RM One for the moment, tried a HP dc7800p and won't boot. Oh well, one step closer.

I've had a go using this and got stuck. I have a img file of a RM CC3 Standard disk. Prepared the USB stick as Boot as FDD and also tried ZIP. Selected MS-DOS bootable. Selected Image to USB and choose the img file. Did 0 defaults for the 3 options that come up. Doesn't come up with any error but when I try to boot it. Says I/O Error. Anyone got a guide on how to use this RMPrepUSB?

I now have a question regarding these Netac 1GB Bootable Flash Drive Is the FDD section of the disk limited to 1.44 MB? What I'm getting at, is can I make a 'one RM disk to rule them all' with every driver on it that will be over 1.44 MB and put it on these type of sticks? The RM website talks about a 512MB MiniSafe. Is this the floppy disk area where you can put all the drivers?

We currently have a RM CC3 network. I find it really annoying that to build machine on the network we have to use ancient floppy disks. I've made several attempts to make a usb version of the RM Build Disks but failed everytime at different stages. I've tried using GRUB and .img files of the RM disk but that didn't work as it puts the image in memory. RM requires to write to the disk and is a 2 stage process with a reboot in the middle. (therefore dumping the disk to memory is no good) The other way i've tried is copying contents of RM build disk to the memory stick (formatted as FAT16) and then writing the MBR from the floppy to the MBR of the memory stick. That didn't work either Wondered if anyone has had any luck in making a usb RM build disk?

Cool! I'm a fan of Red Dwarf. Series 1 was brilliant and that was done on a real low budget. I didn't enjoy the 3 part special that they did on Dave. I missed the canned laughter that was present in all the other episodes. Wonder if we will see Red Dwarf's Parallel Universe again?

Anyone know of a way to disable or remove the link to the teachers profile which appears under the course name when you are in a course cateogry. Don't know if anyone else has found this but we are getting alot of students clicking on the teachers name when they want to access the course and get lost when they see a profile page of the teacher.

hehehe nah. Have a KONICA MINOLTA Magicolor 5430DL on Windows 2003 Server. Windows Vista can't connect to it, saying 'printer spooler is not working on server' but if you connect directly to the printer via TCP/IP and using a Windows Vista driver not Windows 2003. It works.
