  1. although I work in a secondary school, one network, one domain, I have to agree with Contink regarding primary schools, "I chose 2 networks and seperate domains simply bearing in mind that I'm in a primary and my work is focused on the curriculum side of things. County want to setup the admin side of things and they know what they want and how it should be done so I let them take care of it. Given the recent propensity for blaming the other guy when something goes wrong shown by Schools ICT it makes even more sense." Most of them just don't have the money to employ techies full time and provide the level of service you expect to see in a secondary school.
  2. Well, you learn something new every day.
  3. I don't believe this! A class of pupils sat down to attempt the 2007 Familiarisation Test this morning, and when they reached the point where they had to create a chart they got the Invalid Chart/FX Licence message. I know RM sent out a batch file to run on each machine, and also said that this issue would be addressed in later releases. The machines in question were re imaged in February half term, and of course, running the batch file never occured to me. Has anyone encountered similar problems with this year's Familiarisation Test?
  4. there's a link to a previous thread. I hope this may be of use. I assume you're looking for the cheapest option? By the way, welcome aboard.
  5. this is a little cheeky, so apologies. I'm trying to create a mailbox in my home folder in Plone. The instructions I've got say to create a forum, call it something like "Leave a message here" with a brief description of "My postbox". From there it asks you to go into the Edit tab for my home folder where there should be a "Related Items" section where you can browse to the folder you've just created, which should then make a link where people can click and leave a message. There's no such section as Related Items anywhere to be seen. I'm logged into my space as admin for my area. Can anyone ease my headache?
  6. This has probably been suggested before, and if it hasn't the admins are probably hoping it won't be because of the extra work it may entail, but, would it be possible to have a section on Edugeek where schools can say what old stock they have?
  7. like maniac, apart from not allowing the users to restore for themselves. we back up at 7am and 12 noon, but also run normal back up of the system
  8. interesting article here
  9. got my head round it now. thanks to all for your help
  10. just seen this post myself. what's troubling me is that I'm not too sure how to stop all the services running so that I can copy all the files over. I thought I'd stopped them all but when I come to copy files over I get an error message saying such and such file is in use and can't be moved.
  11. this is a fresh install of 1.7. I think the two are connected, but I can't figure out how
  12. you have a PM
  13. I've just got to the point of installing Moodle v.1.7 on our web server, when under the environment tab it says that I need v.4.1.16 of MySQL rathere than the earlier used in Apache2Triad. The other warning/advice I get is that the default character be set to Unicode - I don't look for this in MySQL do I? It's in the Moodle settings?
  14. we do the same, so I suppose it's it's the fact that all pupil seats in the IT suites are wired to a large generator.
  15. thanks for that Mark. much appreciated
  16. I've seen what I think is a wordpress template (it's used on a wordpress site anyway) does anyone recognize it? I spent an hour or so trying yesterday. Can't see any reference to it in the source code either.
  17. thanks for the info Geoff
  18. I was talking to our head earlier today, and he was interested in visiting some BSF built schools. The points I wish to raise here are - A. is there somewhere on the web where I can find such a list (I can't put my finger on one yet), and B. if you work in such a school, and it's in an area between, say, the Lake District and the Midlands (we're based in Rochdale) would you be willing to pass on your details so that my head can get in touch with your head? thanks in advance.
  19. thanks, I'd appreciate that.
  20. I heard a rumour today that both were dropping SIMS completely.
