If it's any consolation, we're in Wave 4 and don't expect to be TUPE'd until sometime around 2010-12, and then this will be done on a rolling basis as each school comes under the managed service provider.

We have 30 machines which have a slightly different hardware setup to those in the rest of our suites and I'm trying an experiment whereby I've ghosted an image onto one of these 30 machines and tried to uninstall Intel Audio Studio 2.0 so that I could add the correct drivers and then create a new image for these machines. When I go to Control Panel, I can see the drivers there, but highlighting them doesn't bring up a Change/Remove button. Help would be appreciated.

have you checked in the bios that the wireless nic is set to run from the off? Have you configured the card to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings"?

Just get a blank page from home and work, in FF and IE7. Access to rest of site seems fine.

yesterday and today (Tuesday 22nd & Wednesday 23rd) I haven't been able to access Edugeek from home, usually around 05:30 in the morning (I know, it's quite early). I just get a blank page, no error message. If I go in via a link to a PM, there's no problem. By the time I get into work everything's working, and evenings at home are fine. Is ZH doing any work at that time?

CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is certainly one of the routes to take as it's the sort of language teachers understand, it's built in to their employment and is expected of them (They will also have a budget set aside for it). Next is the money it will save them if they get rid of the managed services (though what your school will do with the advent of BSF is another matter). They may also be worried that having (part) paid for your training you'll swan off at the first opportunity to a much better paid job, so some reassurances here on your part would be helpful. HTH

I've seen a few schools going down this route, and I recently spoke to the head of a school who was seriously considering hiring someone on a full time basis to coordinate the website, VLE and the way the school presents its face to the public. You really can't expect teachers to do this (properly) as well as their own job. What I feel you need is someone who can bring together all the parties involved, listen to what they want, understand how this fits into the overall curriculum, research new trends and software, then create something from all this input which will do the job. Unless you get a genius, I don't think this is a part time job either. This is a management position, and I'd start them on about £23K

I 've come across this site. A little bit overkill, but very useful for checking to see how your site looks in various browsers. Can take a while to load if you select a lot of browser versions.

As far as we've been told, we'll have nothing to do with them once they've been distributed. Insurance cover, 3G connection, software and any other peripherals are all the responsibility of the company providing the laptops. All (!) we've got to do is make a note of the serial numbers and who they're going to (this will be decided shortly) never to see them again. Each school was/will be given a sum of money, not unadjacent to £9000 to cover the cost of doing this, though I'm not sure if this figure rises or falls with the number of laptops being given out per school.

We started installing the NEC VT52's a year or so ago. What I like about them is that everything (filter etc) seems to be accessible while still being ceiling mounted.

This also worked for me when I couldn't uninstall Acrobat Reader 7 (I'm sure I posted something about it, but perhaps not). I ran the program, ticked the box next to Acrobat and that was it, gone.
